My Dying Bride - A Mortal Binding Review :: The doom metal gods return to misery and their roots?

- For his first and only (??) review for Heavy Metallurgy, TJ tackles the 15th album from one of his favorite bands, My Dying Bride. A Mortal Binding finds the band continuing to curate their own romantic blend of English death doom, while leaning back into the heaviness found in their early years. With more aggression vocally and a focus on more concise compositions, how does A Mortal Binding hold up with the legacy MDB has created for themselves? Join TJ as he processes this impending opus.

The greatest review ever !!!
"there's no reason to bring my mother into this" 😂 I nearly choked on my coffee when I heard that line!!
Oscar caliber performanace? There wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Cheers, mate!
🤘🤘🤘
Thanks for watching!
I'm glad Aaron is back to doing growls. Stoked!
GREAT review. Not a huge MDB fan, but I will certainly check it out based on the clips and the review. TJ rules. Don’t let this be the last review man.
Big fan of the band since the first album got released and this is one of their strongest, which I was not expecting TBH. And Marty you need to release the 30min+ cut of this interview w/o the Michael Bay fast cut/edits style 🤣PS: the intro/outro was pure gold
Ive been meaning to make time to listen to this album, you helped me decide today is the day to listen to it for the first time, thank you for your Suggestion
Appreciate the review! I've been looking forward to hearing this album, the videos for it are sounding great. I don't think this band has ever released a bad album - their sound has generally been pretty consistent over the decades, even a "bad" MDB album stands tall over the best work of most of their peers, and this one sounds like one of those better MDB albums where the songs and riffs really come together well and distinguish themselves from each other, while sounding really pleasant on the whole (in that classic gloomy, doomy, utterly depressive sort of way that MDB's best albums sound), and really invite relistening. Sure, it doesn't sound like they're bringing anything dramatically different to the table, but I think it's a formula that My Dying Bride really can't go wrong with keeping pretty close to, even if I do normally appreciate it when a band experiments a little (I'm one of those weirdos who likes '34.788% as much as the band's more typical gothic-death-doom material!)
Great job....may this not be your last!! MDB is a Top 5 band for me!! Oh, and I'll back ya on that sexiest member claim!!
Get the most hard-core dude to plug the new Goth doom record from OG death doom dudes… very clever and sneaky there Marty….😁😁😁
He was the obvious pic for that as MDB is one of his fave bands.
@@HeavyMetallurgy wow no kidding? Thats awesome 🤘🏽
Meh, I have been a fan of them for over 30 years, and they are a huge influence on my own doom death band GRIMMOON I just feel this current line up does not hold up to the old line up, Calvin, Ade, Rick and Martin really brought something to this band that's missing now.
Lena has stepped up on this album the bass is great..Martin is a talent that can't be replaced I'm not a huge fan of Shaun either even tho he fits in great just lacks something..hamish is missed way more than Calvin..new album is decent probably the best since lies I sire 6.5 /10
Another Worm banger! You should do a 16 person stream like on Sea of Tranquility, the Hudson Valley Squares!!
