A British couple from just outside London, England. We got married in 2018 and decided instead of a honeymoon we’d travel the world together. We saved money and travel points, quit our jobs, rented our house out and boarded a one way flight in 2020. We started this TH-cam channel to share our experiences with friends, family and anyone who plans to travel to the places we’re visiting. We leave TKT tips/facts in our vlogs to give information that we wish we’d had before visiting. We hope you find our content fun & useful :)

As always thanks for watching! We’re excited to be back after a little break, we’re already working on our final video in this Ecuador series and can’t wait to share it with you all!
Happy adventuring, TKT xx
Changing of the guards was amusing! Need Patience!!!🤣you’re right we ARE spoilt- in many ways!
Cathedral bells were hilarious! You couldn’t talk without one chiming!!!🤣Views were amazing but couldn’t have faced the narrow staircase up & down!!!😮
Courtyard WAS lovely esp all the plants.
Basilica IS grand! Seen similar but does look huge. Steps outside look rather precarious! Bet views worth it tho!?! Great to get to see the drone shots!
Certainly got views that day didn’t you!!!
Panicillo statue is interesting & getting the chance to see the view from the top of ‘her’ was a bonus!
Seeing the lights at night was great too!
Thanks enjoyed it all.
It was an all round pretty entertaining day, met some lovely people along the way and battled through the cathedral bells all day! 😂
Buen video, espero pasen bien chicos, en la hermosa ciudad de Quito.
Thanks heading to quito on Friday!!!!
I was just there in Quito a couple months ago! I didn't know you could go to the top of that cathedral. I went in there to see the tomb of Antonio Jose de Sucre but now I wish I had gone up there. Great vid!
Quito is the highest. La Paz is not the capital of Bolivia.
True but it is the de facto capital whilst Sucre is the historical capital. Either way they both sure are high! 😮💨
@@TideKnotTravellers Not true, Sucre is the Constitucional capital, therefore, the official capital of Bolivia.
Awesome
This is the oldest capital in America. In second 2 of the video you can see the bases of the Government Palace. These stones were part of Inca constructions.
That’s very cool, it is a city built on fascinating history 😮
Great video, love your "guanabana" pronunciation.
Thank you, can only imagine how it’s meant to be pronounced 🤭
@@TideKnotTravellers Oh, I am Ecuadorian and we do not mind mispronunciations, we love kind, respectful visitors like you.
Traveling there, arriving midnight, do U think is safe to take a taxi from the airport to a hotel.in the city? TU!!
Yes, we used Uber from the airport, Quito airport is great it has a good/resting section attached which has wifi to order Ubers and is lovely.
Welcome !
Thank you ☺️
We were in Quito in July 2016. The changing of the guards was an elaborate ceremony, complete with uniformed cavalry riding their horses into Plaza Grande. I'm not sure why you saw that somewhat lackluster ceremony.
Oh wow, that’s kind of more what we’d hoped for. The tour guide nearby was showing a group around and they seemed surprised too.
The Changing of the Guard was made big while there was a Socialist President as they like the pomp of a big government. ........... Locro de Papa is a potato soup with many variations.......... Guanabana is pronounced with a few different accents than you gave it. .................Does everything have to be funny?
I am glad to see that this video is from 2022, before the violence and crime escalated to the crisis it is now.
Do you live in Quito Ecuador?
Ya ha bajado mucho así q tranquilo igual los lugares turísticos son muy seguros
Maybe they meant 11:30.
Seems that way 😅
You are totally mispronouncing Jesuit!
Was waiting for someone to comment this, especially having to say it three times 😅 it’s not easy to pronounce words from another language!
@@TideKnotTravellers you're also mispronoucing aluminium. 😃
@@shawnsavage9341 no, we’re just pronouncing that correctly for British English. American English pronounced it Aluminum instead of aluminium.
It's really sad you missed Iglesia de La Compania de Jesus (the Jez-you-it church) There are 7 tons of gold inlaid in the walls and ceiling. In good Jesuit fashion, it was constructed by innumerable slaves, which were also a Jesuit thing. The order was created from the Council of Trento and have been referred to as 'Ecclesiastic Shock Troops' by many notable historians. In Ecuador their economic and political power grew to be a threat to the political powers, so they were banished from the country and have only been allowed back in in recent decades.
Friendly advice guys: lower the passive aggressive snarky remarks.. every single country has down sides. Think there’s nothing wrong in mentioning them but it gets annoying and really fast the constant criticism.. you are freaking traveling, you are blessed, enjoy!
We loved Quito, nothing passive aggressive here at all.
Se escucha bonito las campanas no deviste parar
Suenan bien, pero en la vida real parecían tan ruidosos que pensamos que sería demasiado hablar.
The first iteration of the Iglesia de San Francisco was built in front of the area where the Quitu people would gather to trade. In the building of the Quito Metro, a burial site was unearthed at the east side of the Plaza, so the station was moved further south away from the remains. Quito was a mountain refuge before the Incas or the Spaniards arrived.
That was not the change of guards
Well it was the changing of the guards that they did that Monday at 11am which is the time they do it every week apparently 😅
