You should get an original Pentax Spotmatic with a swtich that controls the metering vs The K1000 which was made w/o switch to lower cost. The original Pentax with their Takumar Lenses is a superb camera.
I haven't tried using any minolta film cameras but I've heard that they seem to be pretty reliable (if you find one working). I'd suggest going with the Pentax K1000 just because it works even without batteries.

I'm sure you've figured it out by now but here it goes: First the film needs to be developed, mandatory step. Then you can scan it yourself if you really really want (probably you will need some software to process it), but in practice I pay the lab like 9 usd/roll for developing + SD scan to JPEG which they send to you for download. They return the developed negatives to you, you can evaluate them (or the JPEGs) and if you see you made a great shot, you can then bring the negative for further processing of individual frames, for example, you can ask for maximum quality (up to 4x the resolution, depends on the equipment the lab uses, and TIFF format with more information per pixel and less compression overall). This selective processing creates more overhead for them so they charge more per frame plus a fixed payment per job. But you save money overall since you didn't go for the maximum quality for the whole roll from the get go. Btw the equipment the lab uses is worth 10,000s of usd, so for 98 % of people the deal they offer is hard to beat. Hope this helps.
