    Fascinating.Mitropolous one of the greatest musicians at the helm of the NYPhil.

    Mitropoulos was a composer in his early years; this work dates from 1928, when he was 32 years old. After that he became more involved in his conducting career and the composing stopped. He did not promote his own music at all, unlike the fellow at the left. The Concerto Grosso is well worth hearing. The Philharmonic stopped broadcasting in the fall of 1967, so this recording is valuable. It was recorded from the audience (the cough at 11:50) and in good sound.
