I don't really know enough about Tauber except what I have found on TH-cam, and I don't speak German/Austrian, but.. I do KNOW quality when I hear it and this is delightful. Simply gorgeous. WF
Billbothebear14 oh Tauber was the quintessential singer of Schubert. He was top notch Kammersinger! Accolade that Germans gave to their very best singers. But - he was Jewish so left for England when Nazis took control. Died from lung cancer.
@@jonjamg He was actually of Jewish descendancy (his father actually converted to Catholicism) and not Jewish himself. Goes to show just how ridiculous and awful the Nazis and Brownshirts were.
@@davidpayne697 the whole of Nazi anti-Semitism ideology is ridiculous, but it depends how Jewish is defined, is it the religion or race? I know people who do not practise Judaism but see themselves as Jewish. I know people who practise Judaism as a convert and call themselves Jewish when more conservative Jews would not. Nazis took it at face value, lineal descent. The religious aspect was not important to them, even though they had "experts" with rulers and calipers. I'd go with whatever Tauber himself wanted to identify himself as, it is that which is important.
Tauber and Spoliansky recorded an album of 12 German Folk songs in a single morning in the Berlin Lindstrom Studios on 1st October 1926 - his first electrical recordings.
Poignant in the extreme (Tomorrow I must leave my home forever . . . ) seeing Tauber was exiled from his native Austria because he was a Jew. What a marvelous pianist, actor, interpreter, and tenor's tenor.
@@chriscologne8490 Actually both his paternal grandparents were Ukrainian Jews who had settled in Vienna, but his mother was a Catholic and he was raised in the Catholic faith.

Dear Mr. Baxter, i am not sure it is pathos although i have to put more thought into it. I am german and that pathos you describe might very well be pure germanic idealism, that is how it translates to me as a german. That does not take anything away from your interpretation sir.

Tauber's warm tenor voice is of heavenly quality!
The most musical and the loveliest voice ever.
