Nah man, no way this beats something like GTA or Street Fighter VI or even the latest COD games as bad as they are. This is impressive for 1980, sure, but if you think it's possible compare an arcaic 4kb game with any recent title you're just downright delusional.

I remember having Space Invaders on the Sears Telegames which was really a Atari 2600 system. The noises from the game came back to me and everything since I hadn’t played or seen this game since the mid to late 80’s!
When I played this game as a kid in 1981, I shoot three aliens at a time in each file vertically as fast as I can in succession, beginning from right to left for the first half of the group, then left to right for the last remaining half of the group in the same pattern. until you get down to the last alien. This keeps the invaders further above ground and buys some time before they land down.
The memories I have watching this was nice to go back to. That last alien was always a laugh at our house as the person is stressing and body moving all over just to catch the little monster. 😂

I did a non stop 37 hrs on this game lol the old woody console almost melted with the heat:( god I miss the days when £5 got you almost every game from the top 20 list and you could load them on a mates console bloodly new consoles could learn a thing or too here . at least back then most games lasted weeks today you spend £50 on a game and finish it in 3-6 hrs .

My wife bought me an Atari flashback with Space Invaders on, I have just ordered some paddles from ebay. Now I am wanting a real Atari 2600 console haha. It's nice to get back to the old games with simple graphics and hours fun, instead of complicated controls and long load times! BRING BACK THE 80's !
What are you playing your PS2 games on? I had to give up 2 big grey tvs when i was forced to move to a stupid tiny house 5 years ago, glad i got out of it, bigger place now. But i have an arsenal of old Xbox and PS2 games my HDMI flatscreens can't accommodate.
Very nostalgic ! The console games were always never as good as the arcade versions upto the PlayStation 2/3 at which point they surpassed them but they always helped to satisfy my craving

There is an interesting BUG in Space Invaders (2600 console): try this.. Holding RESET down while turning the system ON gives your ship double-fire. :o)
On the Sick and Wrong Podcast, Episode 607, there was an interview with a man from Arizona who claims to have been visited and attacked by Grey Aliens. He said that he is still alive because he learnt how to kill aliens with a samurai sword: "aim not for where they are standing (because they move really quickly) but for where they are going to be, a bit like Space Invaders". 😂

The names for the aliens in the space invaders, starting at top row: the Antics with antennas, the Greys (big head with big eyes, long arms/legs), the Androids (walks like humanoid or remote contolled robots sent by the Greys), the Bi-Ped pods (marching or hopping similiar to the one at MIT Leg Lab in 1991), the Watchers (aliens watching us, they created us to become like slaves to work for them), and the Sentinel (with free flowing tenacles, like in movie Matrix).. hope this helps. :o)
@Jono1874 Not only that - in order to "out detail" 2600's version the aliens in SpaceArmada are HUGE! A similar phalanx to the one in Space Invaders takes up much more of the screen, meaning you spend most of your time at the leading end(s) of the phalanx in order to prevent if from descending by one more row. InTV definitely out-detailed Atari in sport games, but for space/sci fi I'd say they were about equal.
OMG! This is the first video game I ever played and it wasn't even mine! My brother got the Atari 2600 from my dad, probably for his birthday. We played it on our television. :D
@Zickcermacity Though I've never Space Invaders on Atari I can assume it controls a bit better than Space Armada in the INTV. That disc got me killed more than once.
I can check Pace speed of an enemy in Adobe Audition. Pace 1: 112 BPM Pace 2: 172 BPM Pace 3: 224 BPM Pace 4: 448 BPM (few enemies left) Pace 5: 900 BPM (only one enemy left before the level has completed)

all those little aliens on my version i'm playing on the 7800 and on an analog glass-screen Zenith tv probly from the 90s, they all look kind of brown-ish. is that normal?
Are those horizontal lines visible on the left when the screen isn't black a bug in the emulator or the rom? Were they present when the game was played on a real 2600?
+Fred Andrews they were present in the original carts, it's a matter of how the 2600 renders sprites on screen . it's not so much traditional character/ background rendering that we would see in later consoles but rather the "pixels" displayed are each individual screen render timings plotted out by the programmer . Thus the bars are there as an artifact of that rendering. when possible watch David Crane's speech "the postmortem of pittfall" as ti sheds some light on what it tok to make a great 2600 game.
Space Invaders VS Space Armada(Mattel): On the Ataris at least the phalanx didn't take up the entire screen as it did on Space Armada. Otherwise I'd call them even.

I had this on the 2600 and the 5200. The 2600 version is so much better!
