Thankyou so much for all that advice about harvesting bok choy. I was going to cut the whole plant out until I watched your video. Bok choy for dinner tonight.
Very sorry to hear that. To get rid of snail the best thing is used coffee grounds.. You want to sprinkle at least two times a month and what you could do in the evening time. Check your plants and make sure to remove any snail or any bugs manually using your hands is one of the best way to.. Use coffee grounds works good
Hello. Great video. Extremely informative. Never heard about bolting so I am grateful for the clarification. Do I need to dry out the seeds first or just sow them fresh come October or May?
No need to dry out the seed. The seed actually germinates very fast outdoors.. They grow best between 60 to 68 degrees.. Normally over 70° when it's hot it will Bolt the plant
@@Greentgarden yes. That's exactly what happened to me. I planted too late in my region because my 8 plants bolted immediately. It is already over 70° where I live. I will leave the flowers and plant them out later in the year when it's cooler.
I harvest my Bok Choy the same way, and I get an harvest about once every 2 weeks. I am in Massachusetts so similar climate to where you are. Last year, my Bok choy went to seeds in July. I planted some of those seeds in May and will again in the Fall.
I grow bok choy in long narrow containers in my 4 x 4 basement grow tents where I grow other..... vegetables. Found that they do best on the outside edges where they are not as exposed to the intense overhead lighting. Towards the center they tend to bolt quickly, even though the temperatures just range from 62-72 F.
you're probably using very powerful LED's for your other "veggies". that would be my guess for the quick bolting. i'm only using about 60 watts worth for my tent
Depends on the type of peppers. Some of them take a long time to ripen ( basically change colors) You could always Harvest pepper even when they're green.... What type of peppers are you growing ?
This video is very informative!! ℹ️ the usefulness and precision is traditional tradition I’m sure but I’m not living in a small China townscape. I was know there are heirloom and dwarf varieties of bok choy
Where do you live to have cold climate? I live north of Denver. The weather can be strange cold/hot especially during the summer up to 100F degrees plus July - August.
That sounds like strange weather out here , that makes it so hard on gardening... I live in New York Long Island , we're now getting into summer time. So hot weather !
I’m in Oregon and the weather has been very strange this year. I just found this video because I couldn’t believe my pak Choi was bolting already, but I guess it is cause I have flower buds 😢 i haven’t even harvested from it yet. It went straight from seedling to flowers. I think it’s partly the weather and partly stress. I had a big slug problem at first. Just got that under control and then it went from 65 degrees to 80 over night. Then today and yesterday it’s been cloudy and when the sun is behind the clouds it’s about 68 and when it peaks out it’s burning at like 85. Then hides again and it’s cold. It’s really weird. The temperature shift so extreme like that seems unnatural. But at least I was able to come straight here and get an answer to my question. Thank you green t 💜
I am sorry , but Glad I was able to answer earlier questions with my video .. I love bok choy. It's so healthy and delicious but it's such a temperamental plant with heavy wind. Weird weather. Hot weather. Not watering on time. It all triggers these plants to bolt so fast.. I normally plant early in the summer and early in the fall so I get the best out of it...
Thank you. 💜 I’ll try again in early fall. In the meantime I’ll try to collect some seeds from this batch. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Thanks you for all your help. It’s really nice to have someone on this platform that ACTUALLY responds to their subscribers. I can’t thank you enough. Your super helpful everytime 💜💜💜
So it could be the watering is off.. ( too much or not enough water) the other thing could be the weather is too hot.. .. if it started to grow taller , that means bolted ( end of the plant) .. try to stick to a Water schedule ... Water ever 2-3 days ...
I water in the early morning before I harvest so that the leaves are nicely pumped full of water. I let the soil dry out a bit before harvesting and I don't water immediately after harvesting. I'm worried about the splashing Bacteria/Fungi from the soil onto the fresh cuts on the plant. So I avoid watering the injured plants until the next day, to give them some dry time to heal up. I don't think the plants need so much water after you remove the leaves anyway because they lose most of their water from the leaves.
Nice ! My cousin lives out in Florida and they grow lots of big trees and plants. Very impressive! They're right about that.. Have an awesome week ahead 🌱

Nice !. July is amazing! You did good , they bolted fast with me and some hot sun
How do you eat them please?
You could eat them raw in your salad or you could stir fry them lightly..
They cook just like spinach
@@Greentgarden thank you
Your welcome..
Do we plant it on December
So the best temperature for growing bok choy is between 55°F and 70°F. .. and they don't take long to grow... They grow very fast..
It ultimately depends on your climate. I would say it cold realistically grow well ~20f and up
During the coldest timeframe

hi
Why does my only grow on single stem? where you see many growing like a bush multiple leave together,
What am I doing wrong.
It all depends on the variety you have.. bak choy have tons of varieties ...
Don't believe you're doing anything wrong. Keep up the good work.. 🙏🏾🌱
@Greentgarden thank you, I didn't know there's various choices, here in Ghana out choices are limited.
Your welcome.. happy gardening 🌱
How much longer did these produce for you? like did you get one or two more additional harvests from the same plant?
I did some 3-4 harvest.. fall time I get a lot more ..
I love the pet pig. Never seen that before
Awesome! Thank you.. our pet piggy is so much fun ...
Can the leaves be frozen after harvesting?
Yes .. I normally froze them and then I make a stir fry or smoothie with them
But mine hasn’t grow roots ,I don’t see any yet and , they are one inch growing in their water bath ?
Thanks
They don't have big roots or long roots. Give them a few more days. Roots will grow
I grow Pak Choi, but still confuse with bok choi. What's the difference between them?
Basically the same plants and just a different name and it does have a bunch of different varieties... .
