We have Usnea growing all over the trees on the monastery property. I've just collected some for this morning's tea. Your video has inspired me to learn more about the natural properties of the plants we have here in top of New Zealand. Thank you and God bless.
Donny🤙🏾 man I truly love ur videos ✊🏾 definitely the way our ancestors lived and provided medicine straight from Mother Nature 🤙🏾 I’m on the brinks of teaching children our natural ways, I’m an avid native outdoorsman who grew up on the lands and am in the process of doing cultural teachings with the children, I’d love to get some napping rocks to practice and teach as well, I’ve watched at least 99% of ur videos and love every one of them 🤙🏾
Thank you donny. You made this very clear so much better than most people. I also love the way you speak. Very clear and calming. I truly enjoyed watching and learning from you.
Thanks Donny. I usually drink some activated charcoal from the fire pit if I feel like I ate something bad. I'll have to try Usnea tea next time as it grows all over South Texas.
Regarding ash/charcoal I've heard the phrase "white if you're tight (constipated), black if you're slack (diarrhea)" and it helped a lot. I'd definitely recommend throwing some pine needles in the water as you're heating it. I do that for all my backcountry teas, since pine needles have a nice flavor and are packed with vitamin C.
@@i-love-comountains3850 - Good to know, thx. Id never heard that clever saying before. I've always used the black bits and crushed it into a fine powder. I started out using commercially sold activated charcoal at home, then tried the stuff in my camp fire once as a necessity and it worked just as well.
@@__-pl3jg Happy to help! Thank you for letting me know the homemade is just as good as storebought. I used activated charcoal for heartburn and sour stomach so I'll be saving a ton of money at the expense of a little embarrassment for having spent entirely too much money on something i could get for free. I'd only ever used the ash for diarrhea, didn't even make the connection to firepit charcoal, despite knowing the phrase 😅
@@i-love-comountains3850 - Just make sure the activated charcoal from your fire pit is created from a non resinous hardwood and you'll be fine. Oak is what most commercial stuff is made from.
This is an amazing video! ❓️Question... Can I collect some usnea and store it for when I may need it? Or does it need to be freshly picked to harness the benefits?
@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks I like to add pine needles to my water as I'm heating it. The flavor is nice and they're packed with vitamin C. If you were dropped somewhere far from civilization with nothing but the cloths on your back and knowledge of the local flora and fauna where would you start in order to survive? Step by step like what tools/shelter would you make and how would you hunt?
That’s a good question. I did just that on a show called Alone The Beast on Hulu. Fire, shelter and water were the essentials. I did this in Louisiana. Thanks for watching

I used usnea topically to treat mersa on my cat . The vet gave him the default anti biotic treatment several times which had about the same results each time a temporary reduction in progression . The usnea had about the same effect without the tolerance and resistance that eventually comes from taking long term antibiotics . Seeing how bad the infection was I was impressed with the home made Usnea topical extract .
Just an extra note of caution with cats - anything topical is also ingested since they groom themselves so much. Usnea causes severe liver damage in humans when ingested, so who knows what happens with cats.
It would be awesome if you travelled to Europe and did a bunch of outdoor living here. I no America is a huge country and lots to see but it would be great to see you come across the pond brother. Peace

Don't rub your eye when breaking apart usnea, had some powder of it in my fingers, eye starting burning immediately, guess that means it will work for medicine lol
Yesterday, I was having sharp pain in my left index finger. Nerve pain and I put a piece of ice from my drink, just to try it. And instantly it went away, and stayed away!
You mentioned the tea being bitter. Is it as bad as neem tea? Not sure if you've ever used neem tea. It's a vile drink. The most bitter thing I've ever had, and nothing really would fix it. But I had some G I issues, and it might've helped.
