I played this game a lot in bars on arcade machines at the time. I still play it from time to time thanks to an emulator, and frankly it still excites me as much even when I am 44 years old.
Don't worry dude, I'm 50 and still hooked up as hell on this game. I'm starting to believe they put some cocaine in the code machine to make us hypnotized for life. The music and the game play is like a drug. You always come back to it. And of course blessed be Mame the emulator which allows all of us to still play and get fun with that awesome game.
Among the people who stood at the goal, there was a little boy called Alberto. When he saw the arrival of the protagonists, he made up his mind that he would drive his girlfriend to everywhere someday. His story had begun after 17 years, in Outrun 2. Note: Outrun 2 was released in 2003, 17 years after the release of Outrun.
I remember playing this game when i was a kid on a gamegear portable system it was one of the worst port of it ... but still ... It was my only game yet it helped me a lot. I'm in a wheelin chair and was going through a lot of health trouble at that time. This game was the best to make me escape reality :) Thanks for reviving it.
It's such a tough game. I used to play it at 8 years old or so on a ferry between Ireland and France. And it is exactly as tough as i remember it, in attempting to play it again, at 44 lol
I have the Sega Ages version for the Switch, with added 60fps and widescreen. I played Outrun for the first time in 2018, but I still love it and play every couple weeks 😄
One of my all time favourite games. In fact it has to be THE game (and soundtrack) to my childhood. Even now looking at this video it looks brilliant. Did you use MAME to play this?

You have to add scanlines so it looks like a CRT. Arcade games are not supposed to look this pixelated, OBVIOUSLY! Whatever argument you have against that is wrong.

This and outrun turbo at the arcade I loved and the music on both has never been beaten to me bar crazy taxi as I was a big offspring fan lol

Despite not having the engine noise, the Genesis version is better. The music and the colors ( of the car in particular) are far more vivid.

I rarely beat the game, and never beat all five routes. I'd usually get jacked in the "S curve" of the last segment of the drive. 😭
