I just purchased a 2 inch german that needs polished would it be possible to send it to you for that and if so how much do I need to pay ur work always amazes me
What a fascinating process. I'm curious about the need for the carborundum to "break in" the cups. Aren't the cups with the diamond finishes sufficient?
Can't stop watching this, I picked up quite a few old German hand made marbles at an auction (in Australia) most were good but some could really do with some loving. Wish I could send them to you but I reckon the price might be too much. If I was to post how expensive is it to have them polished up? I thought of having a crack at making a machine like yours and giving it a go myself.
I think you could. I know that you can just use one cup and hold it with your hand and keep turning the marble by hand as the cup grinds against it. The cup has to be the correct size. My brother does big marbles that way.
Instead of grinding off too much, you could fill the deeper “moons” with resin/epoxy. Then you can grind/polish without removing as much material from the marble itself, and it would never show.
good question. The top layer of glass is thicker than you imagine and it is a little deceptive. I have only done a dozen or so glass marbles like this and have not gone too far (IMO). It really is up to the owner how far they want me to go. I recently did a marble that had such deep moons that we left many of them in there, but now the marble's beauty can at last been seen.
Hey bud, I have no idea how to send you a private message, I have a big ol German I would like you to do for me. Let me know how to send private message
Thanks for the comment. I don't polish them for myself. I only do this for people who request them polished. I figure it is their marble and they can do with it as they see fit.
Great job bud! Very inventive.
Thank you. The owner was thrilled with the outcome.
Thats my marble it was beat up real bad. Its so beautiful now.
Turned out really nice.
Great video Matthew. That was a lot of work. That marble turned out beautiful.
Thanks for watching
Very nice Matt! What a fun hobby and I can appreciate your DIY skills in making the set up. Thanks for posting!
Thank you. It is pretty fun.

Have ever dug in old town dumps for marbles?
No, but I have watched videos about that. I found some while digging in my garden. :)

They are very good cups. I have broken them in, just to make the surfaces of the cup more consistent.

I generally charge about $20 to polish a large glass marble. However the shipping will gag you. $75 or higher to Australia. what a rip off.
where do you get the various grits ?
ebay. look for 4 inch stone polishing pads.
Can this be done by hand?
I think you could. I know that you can just use one cup and hold it with your hand and keep turning the marble by hand as the cup grinds against it. The cup has to be the correct size. My brother does big marbles that way.
Do you do this for other marble collectors? I'm in need of this on a 3 inch German.
That it s a big marble. Too big for my machine. I think the max for my little machine is 2 inch
3 inch German marble? That's huge. What type is it ?
How would I contact you in regards to restoring a German marble?
See my about page or my home page. My email address is there.

interesting idea.
Hello sir, I was wondering where you get your carborundum blocks from? I'm eager to try my hand at making a marble. I really enjoy your videos!
Kingsleynorth.com. look in Sundries
@@MarbleGems - Yes sir, I found them, thanks!
@@bonesstones6584 you are welcome.
I get anxious that you could get close to loosing the top layer. How do you know when to stop and have you ever gone too far?

Please don't polish German handmade marbles it kills the value of them real collectors want the original surface even if it does have chips
