  • I got a new bike a few weeks ago, and I changed out the clutch on it yesterday. I was gonna livestream it to TH-cam, but a combination of TH-cam account stupidity and my GoPro not wanting to cooperate with my computer lead me to have to host an invite only livestream with GoPro. This video is just an edited down version of that two hour livestream. Anyways, I've owned this bike for about a month now, and haven't shown it off to you guys since it hasn't really been in the best mechanical state. So what better way to introduce you all to my "new" Honda by showing you all me doing a big job in it! I might consider uploading the stream in its entireity later, if you guys are interested. Thanks for watching! -CS

    “ I don’t really see a torque value so imma a just do what feels right “ that’s the only way to do it sometimes 😂

    Thanks for the video! I keep mine (1999) until today and I do all maintenance myself as well. It has been going strong since I bought it. Enjoy!

    Did you change both springs and friction and metal plates? What manufacturer?

    • @connahon2wheels
      @connahon2wheels  ปีที่แล้ว

      I changed the springs, metal plates and friction plates. Springs and friction plates are from EBC brakes and the metal plates are Honda OEM

      @@Desmodromic916 Are you messing with your clutch springs because its slipping? If you’re going to go through the trouble of taking off the crankcase cover and removing the pressure plate bolts, take out one of the friction discs and measure it. If its 2.5mm or thinner, your springs aren’t the problem, you need new discs. But, if you’re going to do a clutch job I’d just go ahead and replace everything, springs, metal and friction. Also, remember that the 98/99 models have a different clutch from the 00/01 models, as the farthest disc on the 99 is smaller than the rest, while the 2000 model has the same size on every disc. Ride safe and happy working! :)

      @@connahon2wheels Yes its slipping few times until engine fully warms up. I have no service history records. I will probably replace everything. Mine is 1999 thanks 😍
      I know about the difference, 2001 has same clutch as F4i CBR. Ill do that this winter, looks easy watching you 🧐

      My clutch was the same way when I got this bike, at first the clutch slipped a little, but it decayed very fast and eventually i had ZERO clutch grab when the engine was cold, you had to let it warm before it had ANY grip. Chances are unfortunately that your friction discs are worn. If you're not planning on riding until you get the clutch fixed, go ahead and crack it open and check those discs. Another tip: do an excellent job getting the old gasket off, use a PLASTIC scraper (don't be like me and use a razor knife.. I didn't know you weren't supposed to do that when I filmed this, better safe than sorry) and get it all off, then put a new one on and use the right sealant, I was told to use Hondabond but there's several different kinds and I'm not sure which one is the right one.. I didn't do the gasket right so I have to replace it and seal it properly, this time I'm gonna use Permatex gasket dressing. It is a fairly easy job so long as you have the right tools and do a good job with the gasket. If you need any help once you get the job started, feel free to holler at me

    Every Honda I had would brake down once a month, every Kawasaki I had never broke down

    • @connahon2wheels
      @connahon2wheels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had a constant stream of repairs with both my Ninja and my Honda. The Honda's issues have mostly been electrical issues with the exception of the clutch, but the ninja's just had a little bit of everything, from carb issues to leaky brake reservoirs.

      @@connahon2wheels what size ninja though they had injection fuel ,always had clutch , and carb problems with Honda , I never had any problems with the 440, ,1000, zx11 , and I bought them used and
      Ran them wide open every day and cross country ,clean oil saves all moters and a good filter, some gas stations have old bad gas

    • @connahon2wheels

      My Ninja 250R just runs lean. I wish it had fuel injection but those dinky little 250s were built to a price point and it certainly shows with the carb fed engine. I always change the oil on time (if not early) with synthetic motorcycle oil and I use fuel additives every once in a while to keep the fuel system clean. I really need to just pull the carbs out on the Ninja and rejet them a size up, I think that would fix the lean running condition. But now that I have the Honda I don't really ride the Ninja much anymore.

      @@connahon2wheels last time I rode a bike that small was 1970 bigger bikes are way defferent . The bike I'm going to buy soon is a zkawaski rs 900, or the fastest bike z Kawasaki 14 not so much for hot rod like my old days but to have the power when I want it.
      Small bikes do not hold up very well. On the 900 every thing is so

      Eazy to maintain. And it's 0 to 60 in 3 sec. I'm not Shure I can handle the 14 very well because it's a havey bike but the power is off the charts and is scarey.when I had my zx11 I could cruse on the freeway at 110 to 160 very comfortable took it to 180 once and got scared but at 160 I was ok
      My zx11 had a 150 hp. And the 14 is over 200 hp. U really have to have alot of experience to ride a 14 , people say it's insane fast just what my brain needs once in awale but stay with what u can handle 🧝⚡

    • @connahon2wheels
      @connahon2wheels  ปีที่แล้ว

      This bike was claimed to be about 36k miles when I picked it up. Problem is, there’s a problem with the digital cluster, so the odometer literally just doesn’t show up.
