Great video! But is this still worth buying in 2024? I’m a CDJ getting back into things after 15 years. Feel I’ve missed a lot of things but this may be a great starting point?
So glad to see someone sticking up for controllers. So many idiots who don't know that a CDJ and a controller do the exact same thing, they pull the song file into the software so you can control it, doesn't mater if it's USB, laptop or CD it's all the same. Only vinyl turntables are truly different to a controller.
The whole reason I'm considering buying the XDJ-RX for me is that it's NOT a controller. It can be used as a controller (so can any modern pioneer CDJ/DJM setup), but it's a stand-alone all-in-one machine. While you say controllers and CDJs are the same, I tend to disagree for a couple of reasons: - Controllers and CDJs are more or less the same, but only when it comes to functionality. When it comes to reliability, responsiveness, feel and build quality CDJs come out on top. Laptops are vulnerable to system failures and are a weak link in the audio chain that could turn a performance into a blackout disaster. Also, controllers have latency. It's not much, but it is a noticeable difference. Along with the wide setup and large jog wheels it makes CDJs have a much better feel when DJing (although this could be a personal opinion, I think most people would agree). Ever since I switched from a controller to CDJs, I never ever wanted to go back to a controller. The Pioneer XDJ-RX would be pushing it for me with its reduced jog wheel size, but I think I can live with it if it saves me tons of money. - Controllers make (learning) DJs dependent on BPM indicators, visual wave forms and sync buttons. They're useful tools and most of the time this is not a problem, but sometimes technology fails and a DJ should be able to correct the computer's mistake with ease. A propper DJ should also be able to manage without all the computer assists. Quite some places where I played had a set of 900s, and many controller DJs are afraid to use it because it has no precise enough BPM indicator or sync button. - Controllers are more inviting to the 'serato' face (Google it if you don't know it). DJs are more easily trapped into focusing on their laptop screens rather than reading the crowd. The fewer (and smaller) screens a DJ has, the better.

At 3.02 lol, great vid, you make some good points based on costing versatility etc, I've owned technics, cdj 1000mk3, cdj900nexus, found the nexus to be a mistake within weeks of getting them and over 3k, sold the nexus 6 months later, and really considered the rx ranges, great machines, but for me the biggest thing to put me off was jog wheel size, I just struggle with the smaller platter, so my choice was the rz, and it still cost less than I sold the nexus for.
The thing that puts me off using one piece of equipment like this, or a laptop, is that if it crashes, then the music stops until the whole thing has been rebooted. Whereas, if it's a CDJ that crashes, you can quickly switch to another one and let that play while the first CDJ is rebooting. I think it'll be great to keep in the studio or at home though, but not in a club environment.

I have a set up of 1 Pioneer Djm 750 Mk1 mixer and 2 Xdj1000 Mk1 players, Is it worth changing them to buy the Xdj Rx Mk2 model, or can I stay with my current set-up ??? Thank you so much for your answer. Hello
you have a 4 channel mixer, maybe if you want to upgrade, sell the djm 750 mk1 and buy the djm 750 mk2 and buy 2 more cdj or xdjs and you will have 4 decks, but thats my opinion
This would be something I would buy if I was starting again, currently use NI Traktor DVS, which is a great piece of kit, a stop gap between vinyl and controllers.
I'm looking into picking one of these up, kinda torn between this and the DDJ 1000 and a new laptop. One thing I will say is that I think pioneer fucked up with the sound colour FX on this one. Dub echo isn't really my thing, but I understand some people like it. As for pitch and noise, no one seems to use them, so why are they there? I'd have much rather had the bitcrusher and gate effects from the original RX. Part of me wants to hold out for the next iteration, it was about 2 and a half years between the RX1 and 2, if pioneer keep that rhythm going we should be looking at a new model soonish, which hopefully will better compete with denon's prime units in terms of features.
@@Bodzio1982 I went for the RX2. I've had a brief play about with a DDJ 1000 and apart frog the jog wheels I prefered the feel of the RX2. The jog wheels are my only real complaint, you get used to them but they spin a bit too freely. Pioneer added jog adjust on the RX3, which should solve this. Might be worth considering the denon prime gear as well, I haven't used any personally but it looks great, and it's way ahead of pioneer in terms of tech.
I can’t get my tunes from Rekord box to play on my mates XDJ. It has the Rekord box version. Still didn’t work. Not a very user friendly experience. Spent the whole day trying to figure it out. Still no luck.
It's not the first to do that, there's many controllers that have that sort of capability, USB, MIDI/HID, or External, the XDJ-R1 for example, has CD built in, and USB to read from memory stick, AND it can be used as a controller on the laptop etc, Also, you can plug in external decks...
I had the R1 for smaller events and as a backup unit to my Nexus setup and it worked fine. The screen on the other hand is terrible, and an iPad was essential for browsing. You must have a special output for it in RB, so you can't use your usb's on both the R1 and other cdj's/xdj's without changing the output in RB. This makes the unit less useful and to realize you forgot to change the output when you arrive to the club is not fun. Well worth the money, but the RX2 is up on par with the NXS2 system and on a complete other level. As a user of the standalone players I avoided the RX because some buttons were on a different place than on the standalone units, which makes it confusing in the heat of the moment, but now everything is in the right place. If you want something you can learn on and then go straight to the club and use the NXS2 setup, The RX2 is the way to go. The included full version of RB DJ is a great bonus you don't event get with the full NXS2 setup without paying for it. Great if you're coming from a controller and want both options.
I know you have videos for the XDJ RX1 as far as interesting dj techniques I was wondering if you could do one for the mark 2 for as far as the extra pads and new/streamlined features if any!
I looking into getting this for the fact that I don't need a computer since my brand new Tracktor S2 MK3 doesn't work with my Mac. I love the ability to use USB thumb drives and .wav files which are important features for me but I wish Pioneer had built in a hard drive for storage in case a thumb drive broke.
I'm sure RX2 (I'm waiting in days) will be brilliant..but, guys..if there's someone is briliiant..that's YOU!..A Real Guy in a Puppets World! :)) cheers from Italy ;)
See to be honest I really cant fault my rx2... it has never went wrong for me and the sound quality is absolutely amazing out the rx2... i cannot hear much of a difference between the nxs2 and the rx2 The sound quality out the rx2 is definitely better than most mixers out there so you are actually better plugging the amps straight out of the back of the controller
oh man, i thought you gonna say there was some error, and i am just about to buy it for super gigs, boat gigs, every fukin great gigs. I had pioneer errors happenin on other controllers. So thx for saying this is awsome piece of art. haha
I’m waiting for pioneer to come out with a 4 channel mixer with screen (kinda like a smaller XZ or Prime 4 competitor) Currently It’s hard to choose between the rx2 and the ddj-1000, one lacks channels the other lacks a screen 😂
Had a good little chuckle with this, nice review. Got mine about a month ago and it was the best bit of cash I’ve spent in ages! Wish i didn’t have to wait 200 years for it to wipe my bottom tho :
What I can't understand is why no-one has mentioned the two CDJs stacked on top of each other in the shelf. Sure fire way to f*ck the job wheel (and badly scratch the surface too).
I will say it. The nexus MK2 is not good. since every DJ insists on using them pioneer have completely fallen off on quality assurance. Denon is taking over.

What is the tune you play at 7 09 ?
I know you have videos for the XDJ RX1 as far as interesting dj techniques I was wondering if you could do one for the mark 2 for as far as the extra pads and new/streamlined features if any!
Can you change the waveforms view to vertical going up?
Will you be doing a ddj 1000 video or ddj 1000 vs xdj rx2 video?
I looking into getting this for the fact that I don't need a computer since my brand new Tracktor S2 MK3 doesn't work with my Mac. I love the ability to use USB thumb drives and .wav files which are important features for me but I wish Pioneer had built in a hard drive for storage in case a thumb drive broke.
I'm sure RX2 (I'm waiting in days) will be brilliant..but, guys..if there's someone is briliiant..that's YOU!..A Real Guy in a Puppets World! :))
cheers from Italy ;)
The one thing it doesn’t do kills it for me - DVS! An extra couple of channels would be the icing on the cake.
Is there an actual “sound quality “ difference between a CDJ vs the rx2 or any other dj controller being its so much more money??
See to be honest I really cant fault my rx2... it has never went wrong for me and the sound quality is absolutely amazing out the rx2... i cannot hear much of a difference between the nxs2 and the rx2
The sound quality out the rx2 is definitely better than most mixers out there so you are actually better plugging the amps straight out of the back of the controller
All I needed to hear, buying mine tomorrow
I decided to pick this up as my first dj controller for no more than 480 pounds!! Apparently Pioneer had a sale on amazon recently.
So, the name of the video is sarcasm? Is it worth buying?
I love how the English talk
I can't wiki wiki with nexus and controller
And now the Denon Prime 4 is way beyond this even. I have them both, both are genius, but the Denon is remarkable
Lol what did you take? I want some..
That english accent is like buttery smooth sophistication.
Pioneer just released the DDJ 1000 which looks to be an awesome controller. I have my eyes on that one.
oh man, i thought you gonna say there was some error, and i am just about to buy it for super gigs, boat gigs, every fukin great gigs. I had pioneer errors happenin on other controllers. So thx for saying this is awsome piece of art. haha
Yes this will get the party going instantly! Sold!
Haaa, you got me, I was a bit suprised of the title :p
I’m waiting for pioneer to come out with a 4 channel mixer with screen (kinda like a smaller XZ or Prime 4 competitor)
Currently It’s hard to choose between the rx2 and the ddj-1000, one lacks channels the other lacks a screen 😂
I wish this version had 4 channels smh
That would be tricky a one (not saying it won't happen) because it would be competing with their 4 channel mixers and cdj market.
That's the thing... I'm sure they pulled near enough all features from the cdj2000s and put them on the rx2
Surprised you can afford all this new stuff Johnathon, with the amount of coke you must consume !
i only scan the comments to find the coke accusations hahaha
Had a good little chuckle with this, nice review. Got mine about a month ago and it was the best bit of cash I’ve spent in ages!
Wish i didn’t have to wait 200 years for it to wipe my bottom tho :
Cool bc I was in between both, going the controller to prepare for clubs. Easier to travel w too
This scared the shit out of me. This pops up in the recommended after I just buy the insanely expensive deck
Please do a comparison video with the denon prime 4
Got these decks I think their brilliant nice one Ella skins ❤ x
Still makes me laugh watching this 3 years later, Pioneer have put a 🍒 on the top, Pioneer XDJ-RX2 is a beast of a machine,
Do You go climbing?
Actually not called MK2 but I love your videos!
What I can't understand is why no-one has mentioned the two CDJs stacked on top of each other in the shelf. Sure fire way to f*ck the job wheel (and badly scratch the surface too).
Mines is on its way in the post - I am super excited!
I like your analogy. Smart.
what about de xdj 700?
This? Or the ddj sr2??
I will say it. The nexus MK2 is not good. since every DJ insists on using them pioneer have completely fallen off on quality assurance. Denon is taking over.
whats with the big long sniffs all the time dude?
Columbian flu
Major Charly sniff going on there ... LOL
You bloody legend. Loved this video 😂👊🏼 my RX2 is on its way 👍🏼
