Some foreigners are refugees. The process and rules for refugees are totally separate and different from other forms of immigration and ways of getting Residence permit. Unfortunately not all seem to fully understand this. The second factor is that immigrant families statistically seem to have more trouble getting employment, have more children and have more need to use social services, the safety net of the society. And since there is a tendency to group all foreigners together, that has the effect of making people forget what is the actual situation and how different it can be from person to person.

No, Kela (Kansaneläkelaitos in Finnish) is not a system. Originally, as the Finnish name implies, it was just the agency for national retirement fund system. Later it has been tasked with many more things to take care of. Some or these tasks where previously handled by municipalities. Kela is the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. It is government agency that provides basic economic security for everyone living in Finland. So it is just an agency that is tasked to manage and handle customer service of many social services, which in turn are based on national legislation.

Ashamed of where I started... Why would you, since there is nothing to be ashamed for. Not at least from my perspective. Perhaps I can not fully understand what your proud mind has gone through moving from your highly professional position to a less demanding job on Finland. You had your reasons, cleaning is a respectable job, and you made the best in your circumstances. Legal and medical professions are difficult, since the rules and required qualifications in one country can't generally be used in an other country.
In my society, jobs have ranks.....those ranks determine your pay...that pay determines if you are poor, middle class or rich. So when someone is a cleaner it's deemed among the lowest possible job you can do. Thats why some will be treated like slaves. This topic was to just show that i learned that every job was important and that everyone deserves good pay.....you will be shocked how many people would confess on the jobs they do. There is too much stigma behind it.☺️
@@carthiekoivari there are many factors that effect labor market situation which ultimately defines salary levels in Finland. Hi Carthie, thank you for this informative videos. My burning question is, how do I get a student visa to Finland. And when I arrive and no friends no relatives where do I start?
Hi Lilian, first you will have to apply for a school and when you get a school they will send you requirements that they think the embassy will need. The school cannot however help with the visa process. After this you can contact the embassy, I think they are reachable by email esp now with Corona. You then need to tell them that you are looking to apply for a student visa since you have an admission to a school. They will send you all the requirements. You have to do exactly as the requirements say. When you get the visa, you will quickly realise that you are not alone am sure maybe some of the new classmates will be from Kenya. The school helps you book for a place to stay. They can also sometimes give you instructions on the train to take and where to take it from. When you arrive they can arrange for someone to pick you from the city where your school is located and the person will even have the keys to your room. It always works out. Am sure you will find a Kenyan in any city you go for your studies. Schools also open Facebook groups so you get to know some of your classmates. It sounds hard but you will find a way. I did😊
@@carthiekoivari thanks a lot for the info..what I can ask for now is, how much money do I need to pay both the nursing fees and accomodation, just an approximation?
Hey Dennis, I would say give and take 2M for the first year. But this is like the max. Remember also accomodation money depends on how you use it or if you get a job after arriving hear. If you do get a job then we are looking at school fee only which will not even reach 800k a year. This is because most schools are giving like 50% off on school fee per year if you meet some of the requirements which are like getting enough credits per semester, or choosing their school after admission during the required time frame etc. So think some of the school's could cost around 400k which if you are working and saving by the next academic year you may need little to to help. Does this help?
School used to be free back then. Paying school fee started around 2017 if am not wrong. Also even now with school fee some school allow you to pay half before school starts and the other half later the month before the next semester.

However if you have accomodation tell the person to also write a letter saying that they know you are coming, for how long etc attach the letter to your documents. They should put also a passport copy, phone number just incase the embassy wants to verify
