A bit of a tangine, My friends and I have a discord channel where they game n stuff. Sometimes, I hop into the voice chat and just start animating while they play whatever, and nobody would question it. They are good friends.
Luckky. I realised i started procrastinating more because all of my friends became more inactive and less responsive on discord. We've started calling more so it's been getting better-ish
The best advice that I can give is put every video that you see interesting before you're about to start to work on the watch later list For real, that list killed all my procrastination
@@pimpurcabbges7437 just go on a bunch of art channels and start saving all of their videos. And sometimes it's good to rewatch something you've seen before to remember it better
this showed up after i got over my procrastination. To share my recent experience i got over it by having art sessions for 1 hour with my friends on discord and it lead to me working on art for 4 hours a session for now 3 times a week. the reason i can do 4 hour sessions 3 times a week is because i work a part time job. what also helped me breakout of procrastination and rut. i started making logs of myself writing down what i've been doing daily and how much time im using doing stuff. With that data written down i found out how to make a schedule that works. basically everything stated in this video lol. Hopefully this helps someone struggling with not only procrastinating on creative efforts but on many other things in life.
Ahh, thank you! I write todo lists but I don’t log down my progression, so then my todo list ends up not being used 👀 I will try to log my stuff down because I feel like it’ll motivate me more lol
Routines. Going to bed and waking the same time every day. Knowing exactly what I'll do first when I wake up, helps remove any disarray in my mind. Have an established rough day schedule. I keep a schedule where I put in the hours I dedicate to work, which hours I dedicate to rest, and hobbies or "training" as well as daily exercise. I work best when I do exercise directly after breakfast and I totally recommend it. Wakes the body up like nothing else. Also, engaging in communities. Communities for every hobby or thing that you are passionate about, networking with people. Opens up a plethora of opportunities and you meet cool people!
I genuinely appreciate how honest you are with these talks; discussing ego addiction is something we all face, but I think hearing it from someone further along in their career is really helpful. All of the problems you discuss seem to be inescapable, but rather something you have to learn to handle better over time. Really appreciate your content! With getting this childrens book complete, I've had to livestream it to stay on task for long hours, being held accountable by the viewers. Otherwise the fear of failing or not being good enough keeps me from getting anything done.
Speaking of social media, I watch TH-cam too much) I watch this and that, some letsplays, short films, tutorials from animation and drawing comics to composing music (usually I watch and make huge outlines along). I mean, its good, I think, but instead of actual drawing/animating/playing guitar, I just spend too much time with all this theory part. I have to take a firm grip on myself
I have a super duper tip for you! Always when I watch something educational I'm really interested in, lika a guitar tutorial or a production tips and tricks or anything lika that, I use it as learning time. I pick up my guitar or open up fl-studio and do the thing they're talking about while they do it. It's okay if you don't nail it while you're watching the video, it's a start. You can write down the video and the theme for later training as well!
@@sn3ar , thats a great tip, thank you) Although there is a little problem: when I open my browser and, lets say, Photoshop, my laptop freezes as heck) But I have got used to watching tutorials from the phone or tv and draw along on laptop

something similar to the timer: i specifically use a planner that has time intervals (from 6AM - 10PM) and assign blocks of time to do different tasks/projects (ie. from 8AM - 9AM check emails and make breakfast; from 10AM - 12PM complete scene 15 - 18 revisions). i discovered this method back in college while having to juggle 5-6 classes and all the assignments, reports and art homework that was included. it works best for people who might feel overwhelmed with having to finish something in only one day and would prefer to multitask or do things in increments.
The timer is what I've done for any college work(I'm not in art/animation school to clarify) in the past. My own personal tip for it is that if you're having a hard day mentally or physically but you still want to or need to get work done, that you should give yourself more break time. I've had days that I breaked as long as I worked, 30 min of work then 30 min of break for example. Its not as efficient but I wouldn't have gotten any work done otherwise and just getting any amount done is whats important.
A little late but in a good way. Because I've implamented this in my life recently, And i love this schedule. Its Genuinely amazing and makes me extremely happy
I have not yet finished the video, but thank you so much for advising on streaming. I began streaming my art recently, a lot because I couldn't bring myself to stay focused without having to possibility of having someone look over my shoulder and ask me "why aren't you doing anything?". I thought I had a mental problem, for being unable to focus, but seeing it normalized makes me way less ashamed now. I will continue this way, without feeling guilty, as long as it makes me reach my goals :) (plus, it's fun for people watching me too!) Thank you!
I hyperfocus suuuuper hard sometimes when I’m drawing, and lo and behold hours have gone by and I haven’t moved or eaten 😅 It can be exhausting. That Pomodoro technique sounds like it’s worth a try!
I procrastinate every day, and man, this will help me. Like every day I repeat to myself "After this video, I will go finish my homework and my videos" and after 4 hours nothing, and them when its late and I don't have enough time because I have to wake up at 6, i have to run to study qwq
1:29 Me, sitting for 17th hour drawing stuff: Hmm... Maybe I should. But only 5 min. Dunno why bloggers fight echo with the spiky walls. I love echo in these videos. It adds such a depth! Like I'm in the same room with the author, but not uncomfortably close. PS God! This pup in the opening makes it as addictive as Ducktales one. I always come for him. ^__^
I'm someone who never stops thinking about things, be it minuscule things, like games, or important things, like where I'm going to college, I'm always thinking about something. When I work, I try to have something like a video playing in the background as kind of white noise so I can focus on my work.
The part about looking for videos to play in the background taking up so much time hit home for me. I never thought about setting up a playlist for that to save me the trouble of looking for content.
Oh my god, i do the pomodoro technique all this time without even knowing it, I focus working for 30 min then surf youtube about 5-10 minutes, after 6-5 time doing that, i get up, put headphones on and walk around, after a period of time, i sit down and repeat the process
I started streams on discords and it really helped. I realised in lockdown I get energy from hearing peoples feedback and it boosted my creativity a lot. Whenever I finished work I would end off by letting others tell me what to draw and it made me look forward to work. My own way of keeping productive is to have everything set up and ready to go the day or night before you start work. I them make a 5 task checklist of things I want to get done. when I am done with those five things I can add more to the list, but even just completing 5 small things helped me make progress and give me variation of work throughout the day. I also started hosting Bob Ross parties with friends on discord at the end of every week if and only if I met all of my goals. Its worked great so far!
Bro I’m also attending calarts at this time, and the break thing is pretty relatable and useful, especially from an alumni 🥺✨💕 (I’ll keep this in mind whenever I’m back on campus)
Seriously, you have no idea of how much your videos have helped me to make better animations, your tips and tutorials are amazing and so simple to understand, thank you!! :D
I really like your advice on filming your process because I've been doing it for a month and it helps me stay focused, and gives me a way to measure how much it takes for a picture to be finished - which in turn helps me quote the people who commission me better :) Otherwise, I also tend to watch easy-to-digest shows in the background, like comedy shows or dubbed anime, so that I have a playlist of sorts running in the background. Streamings also work and keep me focused on what I'm doing because I'm usually listening to something that interests me!
I usually draw every weekday but I didn't draw yesterday and was procrastinating today while also getting distracted by social media. I guess its a hidden blessing cuz I came across your video. Thanks for that!
What has been working for me lately is a star guide. It's where I create a section in my journal where I devide by days of the week and what I want to make progress on. Then I a put a stars down for what I accomplish that day. For instance if I read/listen to a book for 30min i give myself 1 star, 1hr-2 stars, 2+ -3 stars. It's a nice way to make a game of your progress and to keep track of what you can realistically accomplish in a day.
The same applies in terms of months and years, which is applying the compound effect and weekly pomodoro technique. I do 6 days of work on my own project, no less than 2 hours a day and no more than 4 hours a day. One day a week is a break/recovery day. Have been sticking to this for over a year with a full time job and haven't gotten burnt out.
I noticed my main issue with procrastinating is that I don't randomly stop doing whatever to sit down and draw: once I start I can go at it for a lot of time without noticing, but the problem is simply starting. So last week I decided that I'd do one drawing each day (I was in the mountainside, so everyday there was a different panorama I could draw). I noticed that if you set this type of objective you'll kinda feel guilty when you don't do it, so you'll most likely start drawing as soon as you have a bit of free time, do a sketch, and then you'll just keep going with no issue, I even stopped drawing to go somewhere else, walk for an hour, and when I sat down, even for just a minute, I'd pull out the sketchbook and go right back to the drawing to finish it. Basically just find a way to force yourself to set everything up and start, even if it's an "I'll just draw/animate/study for five minutes, then I'll stop", you'll keep going for way more than 5 minutes and you'll have stopped your procrastination. Also keep your phone far away (or out of sight) and muted.
Thank you actually. I'm an aspiring musician and chronic procrastinator and stumbled upon this video.. while procrastinating. I'm glad you left these points open to pretty any project anyone might be working on. Took notes on the key points.
Watching this while procrastinating. :,3 For avoiding social media I use the app "Cold Turkey", where you can put in a time, where you don't want to go on social media. The paid version of the app would also allows you to block certain apps on your computer. (I sure get distracted a lot by Telegram.)
Another good thing to realise and remain conscious of is to realise that procrastination is a product of negative emotions. The human mind is designed to survive, not thrive, naturally, it considers the easiest path to be the best and actively discourages acts of self improvement because your survival is not at risk. It feels like it’s wasting energy that could be used later for actual survival. It’s the same process that compels guys to watch porn and jack it rather than find a partner, the path of least resistance is the path we often take. That’s why it’s better to go outside and do something, because now the path of least resistance is the work you want. Even just sitting in the kitchen and listening to audiobooks as I work is good enough
For the music side, I made a bunch of m3us for radios I like to listen to. You won't need to keep a bunch of radio tabs open and you can just use something like Foobar to listen to radios. I haven't been procrastinating on my art studying/productivity, but its nice to watch videos like this during breaks xD
I actually needed this for myself rn. Also (not recent discover just what I do) I end up using Zoom's screen share + recording feature to record things since OBS doesn't work on the Laptop I use for whatever reason. I got the idea from my dad Lol.
I often found myself browsing youtube too much. I now use a google chrome extension called "Block Site - Website-Blocker for Chrome" which alows you to block websites for yourself. Alternatively you can use "DF Tube (Distraction Free for TH-cam)" which only turns off the sidebar recommended videos on youtube to keep you from binging. It's pretty neat. Maybe this helps others with the same problem.
With your animation courses plus this youtube channel you're the MVP man, I've been really tryna get on some bigger personal projects but with working in the anim industry I feel like all my focus/energy goes into work but these videos have helped a lot! I'm def gonna give the timer/stream thing a try cause I think the big project killers for me are always lack of focus and time management. Keep up the great work man!
This. I needed this. I feel like giving up on a certain animation because I feel like I’m not making progress but gosh man...I want to say thank you. Thank you for the video.
Could u do a video on how to properly study film and cinematography for storyboarding? I want to more studies but I have a hard time feeling engaged in the process/actually understanding the meaning behind the material I'm copying. Thanks!!
Wow... I just remembered there one day where my iphone went stuck in recovery mode and there no internet (since my phone was the only internet source), I was really frustrated.... and then I’m just spend the rest of the night by working on some commissions.... somehow that kinda boost my productivity since I have 0 distraction. Same thing goes when I was streaming at picarto and when I was drawing in a restaurant, I feels like really productive when working outside of my room. It just like, I feels I want to draw more in public places I guess I’m gonna take this advice and try to adapt it in my lifestyle. And also reduce my work time at night X3
I can’t WAIT until i have a laptop because i can’t do most of these things on my iPad. I do use a timer & just work for 10 minutes on a project, 10 on another, & then watch a 15-20 minute TH-cam video & do that again for a few hours, and i usually get a lot of work done compared to if i dont use a timer. I actually end up using 15 or so every time because i want to finish whatever i’ve just started, like a frame or a line of lipsync. I can’t record or stream because i don’t have enough storage on my stupid little iPad for a streaming app or an hour long recording. I’ll DEFINITELY do it when i have a laptop though. I don’t usually have deadlines or milestones because it just doesn’t work out, I procrastinate anyways. Same with trying to hold myself accountable & telling people about what i’m doing. I’d change the thing i do with timers when i get a laptop because i’ll be able to have my playlist in the background sp I’d probably set an hour long timer instead of 10-15 minutes & then a break. Anyways this comment is pointless bye
Definitely will use this!! I wish school allowed me to breathe. We had to come up with a story in a week, and I have to make a storyboard in 2 days, for a min or so long animation that would be worked during fall semester 😖😅 Not to mention6 other classes with a wagon load. Lol rip my sanity
After my morning jogging i take a time just to look on internet and answer emails, and look into my socials.. this takes 1 hour, then i start my work, but i'm guilty of procrastination, but to beat this i always set daily goals, and i also use "RescueTime" just to track myself.
3:30 i would also imagine it would also help if like at the end of the day you are deciding to do some work or not. If its like 9:30 and i want to go to bed at 10:00 and i knew what kind of work id be able to get done id probably do it. So yeah i think ill use this.
Ha, you have the same ipad keyboard case as I do! The one that lights up once you start typing and holds your apple pencil at the top. It's such a great addition that makes using my ipad much easier. ^^
I do enjoy streaming to friends, but I've found that sometimes, my friends can actually distract me and I'll get less work done. They're great friends, I just tend to get caught up in joking around or talking to them and find I'm wanting to just talk to them instead of working.
What do you do when you fail your milestone, and what do you do to hold yourself accountable? For example since you missed a deadline you deny yourself of a hobby, then?
Thank you this was very helpful! How many hours do you work everyday? Do you specify some days with more hours? I have a hard time estimating the right amount of work I can do daily, which keeps giving me burn outs
How to be productive as I’m being unproductive and procrastinating by watching this video lol. In all honesty you totally gave me new ideas to try. Especially with quarantine and my friends slowly starting to do art projects. I should totally start like a discord or video call with them when doing the projects so we can be productive together.
"not sponsored by audible btw" lol, as a yt audience I REALLY thought a sponsorship was coming up
With your animation courses plus this youtube channel you're the MVP man, I've been really tryna get on some bigger personal projects but with working in the anim industry I feel like all my focus/energy goes into work but these videos have helped a lot! I'm def gonna give the timer/stream thing a try cause I think the big project killers for me are always lack of focus and time management. Keep up the great work man!
When you FINALLY found a good screen recorder for your YT channel and realize one of your favourite YT'ers is using the same one. OBS ftw!!
Yea obs is probably the most used video recorder under youtubers and streamers. It incredibly how many features it has an its completely free
"How I stay productive, and get shit done!" Love that thumbnail 👌
Thank you, sir. This is isnpired me a lot on staying focus and enjoying the process of doing art. Godspeed you.
I'm a programmer so this advice helps a lot!
Let's see then...
This. I needed this. I feel like giving up on a certain animation because I feel like I’m not making progress but gosh man...I want to say thank you. Thank you for the video.
I'm do 3d animating in source filmmaker. I've been procrastinating lately. Thanks to your video, I now have ways to take control. Thanks.
Videos from toniko sonetimes randomly show up just when I need it
Could u do a video on how to properly study film and cinematography for storyboarding? I want to more studies but I have a hard time feeling engaged in the process/actually understanding the meaning behind the material I'm copying. Thanks!!
I’ve always had trouble staying on-task, this video was very helpful!
Thank you for this! I have been finding it hard to stay productive! I'll try these methods!
seriously all your videos are extremely EXTREMELY helpful, thank u a shitton
It’s good to listen to this advice. It could really help me in the future.
It just like, I feels I want to draw more in public places
I guess I’m gonna take this advice and try to adapt it in my lifestyle. And also reduce my work time at night X3
One of my ways is keeping smaller goals in mind.
Doesn't matter when I hit them. Keep having goals.
those tips are good when you studying too
thanks a lot for sharing them!
Thank you! I’m a big procrastinator and these tips really helps.

_"Hold yourself accountable. Tell people you will have something prepared on a specific date"_
My promise on the trailer I made: *_One day_*
Wow these are probably the best tips ever. I'll definitely use that timer I suck at giving myself breaks.
Thanks dude for this video,i found some idea from this that will help me with my planning
Yess you use rough animator as well!!
Your intro animation is the cuuuutessst!!!
Definitely will use this!!
I wish school allowed me to breathe. We had to come up with a story in a week, and I have to make a storyboard in 2 days, for a min or so long animation that would be worked during fall semester 😖😅
Not to mention6 other classes with a wagon load. Lol rip my sanity
These tips are really helpful! I am going to try to implement these during my work starting tomorrow
Thank you for your videos! I'm about to embark on my senior thesis animation and will be using your videos for production tips. :)
Good video. I really like listening to you while drawing. In fact playing a video of yours makes me wanna draw. Thank you!
"Leave time for other things.... errands, socialize, go to the gym- get buff" lol
I have not hit a productivity streak. However, meditation apps have help me not think about the past so much.
Ha, you have the same ipad keyboard case as I do! The one that lights up once you start typing and holds your apple pencil at the top. It's such a great addition that makes using my ipad much easier. ^^
Yea, I should do this technique
Great timing! I'm just gearing up for a day of hand-drawn animation, really want to utilise these suggestions. Thanks :)
This was informative! Yeah I know I should start putting more of my videos in a list so I don’t get distracted as often….
I do enjoy streaming to friends, but I've found that sometimes, my friends can actually distract me and I'll get less work done.
They're great friends, I just tend to get caught up in joking around or talking to them and find I'm wanting to just talk to them instead of working.
My answer: work for someone else and not for myself. It just works for me
What do you do when you fail your milestone, and what do you do to hold yourself accountable?
For example since you missed a deadline you deny yourself of a hobby, then?
Will try your method next time...and still saving to buy your animation tutorial! Yeahh!
Thank you this was very helpful!
How many hours do you work everyday? Do you specify some days with more hours?
I have a hard time estimating the right amount of work I can do daily, which keeps giving me burn outs
this is the video ive been looking for
Wow, your animation work is beautiful!
All around great video! I definitely am walking away learning multiple things, thanks : )
How to be productive as I’m being unproductive and procrastinating by watching this video lol. In all honesty you totally gave me new ideas to try. Especially with quarantine and my friends slowly starting to do art projects. I should totally start like a discord or video call with them when doing the projects so we can be productive together. Hehe
this is fantastic, your channel is a godsend!!! thanks
Aight imma save this video and watch it later
Perfect timing, i was procastinating my work...
Anyways great video
0:12 yeh i feel that
i work on electronic music
You do amazing work I’m glad I subscribed
I really needed this. Thanks.
This is a great video, I'll try it right away
-after I'm done reading some of the comments :P
Much needed video, thank you! 🙏🏼
Because I forget so many things, when I've learned something (a method, a trick, a way of doing, a snippet of code), I always do a video with obs to remind me later how I was doing this...
Showed up in my feed after a full weekend procrastination slump
Definitely a lot of good techniques. I’ve ended up taking a lot of them on myself but boy am I bad at pacing myself.
