His family watched his fate then ok its release, thank you, and belated condolences. His last thoughts were probably of his fellow brothers there and then. Hope people attend memorial services on Memorial Day, too few attend. A hour of someone’s life is so little to give for the families of lost ones and honor them of their loss.

The plan was for MAKO 30, the SEAL team Chapman was assigned to, to take the summit of Takur Ghar as an observation point. Razor 03 was suppose to insert the team but took hits from RPGs and heavy machine gun as it was landing. As Razor 03 was taking off after it got hit, Neil Roberts reportedly was shot and fell out the back of the helo. The crew chief tried to grab Roberts but he himself was pulled out and lost his grip on Roberts and Roberts fell. The crew chief was tethered so he ended up dangling below the helo while the pilot was struggling to fly the damaged aircraft. The aircraft lost all control 3 times due to loss of hydraulic fluid, but the pilot was able to regain control each time. Razor 03 eventually crashed land several miles away. Razor 03's wingman, Razor 04, linked up with the team and took them back up to the mountain to rescue Roberts and that's where this footage picks up. A lot of things went wrong that morning.

There’s a lot of bravery here but I want to highlight someone specifically another Air Force man named Jason Cunningham he was a pararescueman new guy. Jason was on the helicopter that landed with the rangers and began treating wounded on the impact basically. He was shooting, moving wounded to safer positions, shooting some more to go grab another wounded guy take them to cover he did this nonstop even when he himself was wounded. He then realized he was hit and the ranger medic wanted to treat him he refused medical care and continued to fight and take care of his patients. At the end of the battle he was exhausted and bleeding out his eyes were fading and 30 minutes before extract he fell asleep never to wake up again. For his actions he was awarded the Air Force Cross. The team leader also received the Medal of Honor the entire SEAL team had Navy Crosses unknown amount of bronze stars with a V for Valor and Silver Stars with V for Valor and most men got Purple Hearts which indicates you are wounded. Let’s just say it was hard to not award every man a MoH bc they all fought like enraged animals on Roberts Ridge. God bless them all🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

The mission was to retrieve the body of a fallen comrade. I'm just a surface navy vet. If my fellow vets can give me some rope here, I imagine John Chapman joined for similar reasons. He, we volunteered. And then you obey orders and happen to be in a hot spot. Your training kicks in and maybe say "we didn't train for this, exactly?"
Even though my service was in complete safety, we trained for the what if?
What John Chapman showed in his actions is what most vets might see as "Uncommon Valor. In the greatest tradition of the US."
John Chapman has become a model for me to be better, more worthy of this life. I have a sticky note on my mirror that says "Find 2 ways to make the world better today then when you woke up, JACK ASS!"
John Chapman, your spirit will live on. May you rest in the arms of our Lord. You certainly paid the dues.

Not to take anything away from Chapman's courageous action but I have to wonder why, instead of engaging bunker #2, the team didn't fall back to cover and call for fire support from the Spectre gunship as soon as they discovered the SEAL was dead.
