      Unfortunately your excuse is one that is countered by saying you're a bad driver if you can't control your vehicle, a better more logical approach is to explain that 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears are accelerating gears with the aim to get up into 4th gear for economy and because you'll produce less emissions than the accelerating gears. They claim to want less pollution but they're making us produce more!

    If Khan thinks he's helping emissions reduce by this ridiculous limit, he's wrong. Imperial College research suggests 20 mph have "no net negative impact on exhaust emissions" So definitely points to being a cash cow for London and other councils.

    • @4tr3x92
      @4tr3x92 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      If emissions are the issue then the best method of reducing it is to keep traffic moving at a constant speed. Acceleration (caused by deceleration) uses much more fuel. Surely the use of roads need to be looked at to improve the free flow for the majority. By me there is a bus lane for a few hundred yards up to an island used once every 15 minutes at most. But the cars back up 4 times this length which in turn slows the bus. Counter intuitive much? If this was removed (like it was until 8 years ago) then traffic would flow better. This was put in because the council gets more grants if they have x amount of bus routes...
      But this is not emission related. Cars are now safer for all than ever, BUT the 20 is plenty minority are winning because local government (councils) know they can use it to their advantage and yet again suck the people of more money and time.

      You're the only person I've ever heard this from and I believe it is a major issue. Everywhere you drive in the UK you encounter bullies. Also, I can count on one hand the amount of men whom would describe their driving ability as being "average" or even "below average" - Check out the "Dunning-Kruger Effect". I suspect that many people believe the driving rules are for "other people" but not for someone as highly skilled and important as them. I also suspect the reason for the lack of courtesy on the roads is due to how cars are marketed now - it's as if the car is an extension of the vehicle owner's ego and social position. For this you need look no further than the craze for having a "personalised" number plate (what I call w⚓ plates). Add to all this all the gadgets in cars now (info-tainment screens, cup holders, in-built mobile phone connectivity) and it's no wonder why motor insurance is so high. Anyway, stay safe and consider getting a dash-cam front and back if you haven't already. 👍🏼

    It's all largely a cash grab and not about safety. I was driving in North Wales recently. A part of the UK well known for its draconian and overzealous use of speed restrictions and cameras. I was driving along a 70 mph limit dual carriageway, which for no legitimate reason suddenly became a 50 mph with average speed check cameras.
    Very soon after entering the 50 mph average speed enforcement section of the road, the reason became clear. The road went into a decline, which, if you were not careful to notice and thus constantly ride your brakes, would have your car naturally continue to gradually keep increasing its speed above 50 mph without it being clearly apparent to you. As soon as the decline ended and the road levelled out again the 50 mph average speed check enforcement immediately ended, and the road returned to a 70 mph speed limit again.
    It was so obvious that the 50 mph average speed check cameras had been deliberately placed on just that section of declining road to deliberately take advantage of and catch drivers out on the decline for getting fine revenue. Their placement was absolutely nothing to do with safety.

    I write this in response to the new speed maximum of 20mph for the city of Cardiff and surrounding areas, last month my wife and myself made a visit to the most beautiful city of Wales, and attached my daughters wedding. It was a beautiful day.
    I would like to make my feelings known with reference to the new speed limits placed on motorcycle riders and motorists which I drive both . I've been driving for 50yrs never had an accident and always been mindful of others on the road The new 20 mph maximum is a idiotic idea, people will not be able to hold that speed ,and will end up with points and fine and could probably lose their licence within a week ,also modern cars don't run at so low a speed and owners will have repair bills blocked catalytic converters.
    I support the people of Wales and hope that the 30 mph is reinstated with the minimum of 20mph for school to keep the children safe.Graham Ball🇬🇧

    I got done in an average speed check area in north wales. It was a dual carriage way that should have easily been a 70mph road. They had lowered it to 50mph, then one section went down as low as 40mph. It was around 3am and the only car on the road was me, along with 2 or 3 lorries. I slowed down to 40… the next thing I’ve got huge lorries up my arse, then overtaking me. I sped back up to keep up with them so I wasn’t getting boxed in - the next thing I got a ticket in the post for doing 46 in a 40 zone!! Absolutely no need whatsoever. 3 lanes open… no workmen out in the road. Pretty much no traffic. Then I had to sit through a lecturing speed awareness course, telling me what a naughty boy I had been… I did nothing wrong. Didn’t drive dangerously - the idiots putting out these ridiculously low speed limits are the ones who should be up in court

Private cars in particular are regarded as the cause so instead of banning them measures are being put in place to make private motoring an unattractive way of travelling. So there are very low speed limits all over the place, road humps, longer hold ups at traffic lights not to mention financial penalties for infringements. At the same time, the financial infringements also result in local authorities benefitting cash-wise. Look out for Road Charging per mile, it's in the pipeline to follow the ULEZ diversion.

    I’m over 50 and have had around 15 speed penalties inflicted on me since I was 18, never actually had enough points for a ban. Yet I have never endangered, injured, damaged property or killed at any point in my 3-4 million miles of motoring. All that ‘accident prevention’ was a lie, they never prevented accidents by persecuting me repeatedly. My awareness of my surroundings did that job.

      If you've driven 3-4 million miles you've seen PLENTY of reason why we need deterents for speeders. All I need to do is walk 100m to the end of my road to see why on a daily basis.

    I do not have any symphony for them. I regularly drive at 70mph on the motorways, the sheer number of cars who flash past me is ridiculous. If someone cannot keep their car to a stated speed limit, maybe the ability of the driver should be questioned?

    • @pcjthe1
      @pcjthe1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Too trite and righteous by far. Goon tell us you NEVER break the speed limit.. Ability of the driver? Most of those that flash past you aren't doing it by accident. The kamikaze drivers are doing it because they reckon they'll get away with it (maybe they know that section of motorway and the camera locations), whilst the others are simply choosing to be at a comfortable cruising speed without taking too much risk of getting caught. You may or may not remember that north Wales once had a chief constable who was totally nuts about speeding. Even he noted that they didn't police the limit on the A55 hard at 70. Go over 80 and they'd nail you if they were around.

    So how are they going to trace cyclists who break the 20 MPH limit? Or people on electric scooters? Fair's fair, if you are going to penalise the motorist, who know has to constant monitor his speedometer as well as watching for other cars, pedestrians, insurance scammers, and unmarked/marked police cars hiding away with their radar equipment, then you go after them as well. It's going to be far worse that someone using a phone.
