Spent a lot of time playing this game back in the days.
Pretty good but with some evident flaws.
Definitely worth playing through, there's lots of fun moments in both SP and MP that didn't find a place in the video.
Especially good if you've got friends to play the multiplayer with, but you'll need experiment a bit with the server settings.

Totally underrated game. One of the best WW2 games ever made. One of the best soundtrack in game history.
I totally agree with both statements. Not many games are still played after 17 yrs, it has an unbelievable atmosphere. If it had 10 sequels i would buy them all.

This game is absoultely awesome. A WW2 masterpiece. So much atmosphere...huge levels, super immersive gameplay, very strategic and nonlinear......I would give my right nut and half of my left one to see a remaster/remake of this game.....still installed in my hard drive. One of my top 5 favorite games of all time
They should do a remake for this game like how they did to Mafia

2023 H&D 3 using Post Scriptum engine and weapon handling, tanks and vehicles. It would be epic!
@@bazej1080 IMO best engine to H&D3 or H&D2 remake is Enfusion Engine what powered ArmA Reforger and will be base to ArmA 4. And it's also made by Czechs :D
@@Nacjo_Farmer Yes, Reforger has great engine, big, open and modern with good optimisation and high quality graphics.
Remake should be done by the same devs, not an American studio. Mafia remake was a big meh.
I just wish that the game would have a proper modding tools and editor of some kind, but the game is still 5/5 for me. The review was very well made, long live Hidden and Dangerous!

Ahhh a great and underrated game...originally a friend gifted me a pirated copy of it years ago(2004 i think), at a time where retail copies were hard to find in my region of India and cost an arm and a leg, only years later they began to offer affordable copies that were priced for Indian wallets, 40-60 dollars could be the equivalent of a entire months salary for many low income households,so piracy was very prevalent. Loved it and every few years I replay the entire campaign, years later when I had the dosh I bought the orginal copy along with the bundled saber squadron expansion and it was money well spent. Love the attention to detail, especially for a game of its era that for me still holds up well, had a lot of fun with friends in multiplayer lan sessions and I Would definitely pay for a new addition to this series.
My preferred play style is to have 2 men selected for their strength(George Wingate and Thomas Wright), load them up with heavy weapons as pirmary and suppressed weapons(if available) as secondary and all the ammo they could carry, Roger Jenkins would be the Shooter/Sniper and Doc Bennett as the medic. I would make sure they would always be looting every dead enemy to keep them at the limit of their carry weight and try to engage the enemy at long range to maximize the amount of time spent shooting, sure they would at most gain 0.5kg of additional carry weight per mission and certain amount of shooting, healing, lockpicking skills but by the time you got to the later missions your men could carry over 45 kilos and their shooting and healing would all be quite high. I always like to take the flak truck in the Africa campaign so that I can shoot down those two pesky BF 109's in the next mission, and later on commandeer that parked tiger tank and wipe out all the enemy at the airfield. Just love the freedom the game gives for whatever play style you want except for the one or two missions where you have to play stealthily, the enigma mission is always fun though. Hard is my preferred difficulty, the 3 saves can save you a lot of time. Though I have only played Hardest half way through, maybe one day I will go back and give that a try. Good fun but I tend to die a lot because I always try to find and kill every enemy on the map and with no saves it can be a pain.
The hardest difficulty actually has some levels that are unbearably hard because getting enemies to surrender is a colossal effort. In the first alps mission for example the guy that's supposed to surrender so you can take his uniform just won't, and that's at the very end of a level where raising the alarm will fail the mission.
Hard hits the challenge sweetspot IF you're not a compulsory savescummer,
But yeah, fantastic game, it's perhaps my favorite stealth shooter.
@@GnorriTV Oh yes the alps mission was really fun...I usually kill everyone until the the narrow road pass with the MG42 on a cliff above it...then sneak in one guy, stick to the right of the woods once I exit the pass, killing that one patrolling guard with a knife or suppressed weapon ..then get to the back of the guard houses and cut the wires to the alarm and then you can kill the rest of the enemies with no fear of failing the mission, personally have not had problems with getting the guard to surrender. The biggest problem I have had is usually in the first Africa mission, the Log book is supposed to spawn in the pilots tent but sometimes(for me almost all the time) the log book wont spawn there and instead will be in one of the wardrobes in the aircraft hangar which you cant pick up. Since I like to kill the airport securiy, wait for the reinforcements with the tank, wipe them too, destroy all the parked planes and then move in and trigger the conversation with the officer I might be causing some sequence break or something, for my play style I find that start mission, play a few minutes and then log back to main menu and then restart the mission seems to solve the issue.
Yes, the Very Hard difficulty is... well, very hard. On this difficulty enemies won't surrender, not even with scripted surrender events. Because of this restriction, the mission "Babes in the woods" (the first alps mission) is probably the hardest one, since it's the only mission that requires an enemy uniform to complete it. You get enemy uniforms by making enemies surrender, and the only way to make an enemy surrender in this difficulty is to unarm them, and this is very tricky. You basically have to shoot a lot of bullets into their arm with a submachinegun, but it seems quite random, so it's a lot of trial and error.
In "Babes in the woods" the best thing you can do is to take the uniform of one of the three soldiers at the beginning (take the other two out first). If you need help (you will), check on the video of youtuber called "LOVER GAMER" playing that mission, and try to replicate it. It took me about 30 tries or something like that.
In the second Africa mission, I had to get one soldier out of the vehicle as a bait for the fighter planes to do strafing runs and that was the only chance to shot them,

Honestly one of my favourite games ever. I love that you love it too.
I personally love the tactical view, and I make a point to use it as much as possible. It actually helps to make the levels easier and quicker as you don't have to play every character. If you equip the right items and give the correct tasks to the right skills such as accuracy for the sniper you can AFK quite a few enemies
I really used to love this game. Including the multiplayer! One of my all time favorites.
Hidden and Dangerous 2 weapon sound PTSD. I can relate with that, especially the sten and the reload sound of the springfield

6:37 I ran into the same problem and coincidentally, it was with the squad's medic as well. What I did was pull the truck in front of the HQ and have him jump on it. He took a lot of damage but he was able to patch himself up to full HP. One of the little reasons why I love this game.

I have too say....If you were into PC games in 98-2002 Hidden & Dangerous was anything but obscure. This was a multiplayer staple on LAN game night along with Tribes. The franchise went for the realism of the History Channel and a little less Hollywood fluff.

How do you take so many prisoners? Not a single one decided to surrender to me so far, besides the scripted in mission one.
It's been a while but IIRC you just shoot at and around their feet.
They've got different levels of morale with Italian soldiers having the lowest and Japanese soldiers having the most.
Also maybe you can shoot weapons off their hands? I don't remember tbh
The manual that came with the game details some ways on making enemies surrender:
- Shooting bullets around the enemy. The manual recommends firing a burst over their heads, but generally just firing anywhere near them drains their morale.
- You can shoot the weapons out of their hands to force them into surrendering. However, this is difficult due to the small hitbox of it, so you either need to do it while they're unaware or pray that the soldier you're controlling is a crack shot.
- The manual never says this, but you can also make soldiers surrender based on how many enemies you've killed during their mission. I would imagine that seeing a dead body reduces their morale, and seeing enough forces them to surrender.

It's heartbreaking to see how easily someone could TORRENT the game, run the installer, apply the WIDESCREEN PATCH with the fix I mentioned in the beginning of the review, REBIND HOTKEYS to something decent and play the game!

why shooting mechanics? I personally think passing a game on very hard with shooting only is the best walkthrough. Spawning enemies are the worst.
