Each line that Loretta sang started with a subtle C&W almost twang, but then trailed off with a beautiful almost operatic tone. Conway's classic C &W tone was great accompaniment. Needless to say, the band was outstanding, and it sounded like they had fun performing that tune.
You’re telling me! Loretta sounds so freaking fantastic on this. better than on the original recording. They sang it in a higher key than on the recording, so it allowed for more belting, and she did mighty fine. Oh, and the tempo was a bit slower too.
Loretta Lynn was the first female country artist to have an lp certified Gold by RIAA, and her sister Crystal Gayle was the first to have a certified Platinum by RIAA.
I saw these two amazing singers in Vancouver, BC many, many years ago (how many years? Their opening act was a young newcomer named Randy Travis. Yup I was a lucky so and so!) and they were absolutely perfect. They sounded exactly like their albums - they don't make superstars like this anymore.
They were such good, nearly lifelong, friends. Isn't it remarkable that Conway was taken ill (on his bus) & just happened to be taken to the closest hospital & it was the same hospital where Loretta was already there with Dolittle? Missouri hospital, both he & she on the road...but their paths crossed right there at the end. She was with Conway when he died! All a coincidence...or maybe divine intervention? Who knows? Amazing story, but absolutely true! My sister worked at that hospital. It IS a fact!
There is a video out there with a British guy discussing how almost pitch-perfect Loretta was even during live performances. She's one of the few who is in that category, including her sister Crystal Gayle. She really was the best in her lane. Dolly didn't have that vocal range even in her younger days.

I think that Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle are the best voices in country and country/pop.
