    Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks -- the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he's part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

    There’s one detail I really like because it just fits Joker’s character. The entire movie, Arthur is unable to control his laughter and every time he does it’s not from happiness. It’s loud and forceful and very clearly goes against his true feelings. But when he kills Murray he laughs to himself, and it’s the first genuine laugh he gets in the entire movie. It’s so twisted. That’s Joker.

    16:34 I will never stop saying that my favorite piece of symbolism in this film is Bruce and Arthur wearing identical colored clothing. One from rags and worn out, the other from wealth and power, but their futures are intertwined. I've never heard anyone else mention this, but I find it so cool from a visual storytelling stand point.

    The joker will always be iconic and for me one of the greatest villains ever cause for a normal human he managed to do things that super powerful beings could never do: break the justice league apart, for he destroyed them psychologically, even if that cost him his life. In the end he had the last laugh for real, and there couldn't have been a funnier punchline

    Robert De Niro’s character Murray Franklin is meant to be a shoutout to the actors performance to another movie, the king of comedy by Martin Scorsese. He played Rupert Pupkin. In fact, this whole movie could be seen as a twisted version of that film.

    Focusing on individual original ideas for DC properties, like “Joker” and "The Batman," can indeed provide a fresh and coherent storytelling approach. It allows Warner Bros. to avoid the complexity of multiverse crossovers seen in Marvel and potentially prevent the issues of superhero fatigue and convoluted plotlines. Prioritizing standalone stories can provide a streamlined and engaging experience for audiences.

    Joker was a great and wild movie! I remember hearing the concept for a stand-alone Joker film and was sure it would be unnecessary. But I ended up really enjoying it, especially the speech Arthur makes during the talk show and the ending where he does the “Smile Bit”.

  • @ZacKlepto
    @ZacKlepto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Joaquin Phoenix actually improvised twice in this movie.
    1. The scene where Joker dances in the bathroom. Originally he was supposed to just stare in the mirror but Joaquin heard the music for the first time and he thought it was appropriate to dance.
    2. Where he says “I forgot to punch out”. It wasn’t in the script. He went back and actually punched it. The actors and director Todd Phillips were worried about him breaking his hand.

Also love that basically most things that happened to him was all in his head which I was so surprised first time watching it and of course how can anyone not love that dancing on the stairs scene so iconic. Best joker movie If you ask me 😃😃😃and once again thanks for the you twos reaction 😊 and can’t wait what you have in store for the future 😃😃😉😉

    I accept the idea that this whole movie was all in The Joker’s head.
    If this was his true story, then he would keep coming back to this to work it into his fantasy.
    It would make sense concerning that he imagined a few instances throughout this whole film, which makes me think this whole movie was all in The Joker’s mind.
    I’m pretty sure that’s what they’re going to do with the sequel and with that, I’m all up for it.

    • @lexkanyima2195
      @lexkanyima2195 ปีที่แล้ว

      But why it felt like a prequel Batman movie ?

    • @adamshows1142
      @adamshows1142 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lexkanyima2195 Well, because it did connect with the Batman origin story, if it isn’t for The Joker, we wouldn’t be having the symbol of good.
      The Joker could see himself as a hero while Bruce Wayne’s parents are murdered by someone who followed his actions.
      In the movie, it was established that Joker and Batman (Arthur and Bruce) may or may not have a blood connection.
      But it still solidifies what Batman and Joker have always been throughout the years: They’re both on the same coin.
      Keep in mind, The Joker has always said that he prefers to have his backstory to be multiple choice. So considering this with what we know or don’t know about him, with the choice in this film (where Arthur goes back and forth so much), this allows a whole possibility that this origin story was all in The Joker’s mind.

    @Phillip161 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I love, how they made the Joker a unreliable narrator in this. You could even argue, that everything, that happens was just in his head and he was sitting inside the asylum the whole time. Or that at least some plot points never actually happend (the way it was shown). Did he killed his mother or was he just imagining this, too? Maby he knows about the violent clown demonstrations, because he got a TV in the asylum and was just imagining, him being part of it, like he did with the talk show in the beginning? Are the things he found out about his mother true?
    You can question many things in this movie. I really hope the second movie doesnt ruin this and just makes everything clear, by explaining too much.

    36:31 There's a movie theory running around that the "joke" Arthur is laughing about is a scenario he's making up in his mind: what if Bruce Wayne was so traumatized by seeing his parent's death, he eventually becomes a masked vigilante--the ultimate good--that will come to fight him, the ultimate evil.
    The Joker once said to Batman "I'm not exactly sure what happened. Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!"
    Is it possible that EVERY iteration of these characters is Arthur reimagining himself & Bruce as the final adversaries in Fleck's drama? The eternal battle between two broken & disturbed souls culminating from Fleck's disturbed mind as he sees himself against the world?

  • @kaleyrose47
    @kaleyrose47 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This film was really hard to watch but I also appreciate it for bringing up the discussions about how society and the system fails people with mental health issues, classism and how we view mental illness. Arthur was on lower-income, and therefore no one blinked an eye when he was jumped, and he immediately lost access to his therapist and medications…which can be dangerous for people with severe mental health issues. As a society, we have to do better.

    Tim, if you have seen a movie and your guest did not, dont explain everything right away. Let it sink in and explain a little bit later. It breaks the genuine reaction of the one person who is actually showing us a first time reaction. Thanks

    According to at least one comic (a joker I guess) you don't want to get into a fight with a dwarf. He said they are heavy and stronger than you think because they are old and have had to lift themselves, just like you. He said they will eff you up. This isn't that comedian, but it's a similar story. th-cam.com/video/d_Fm4m7oMxQ/w-d-xo.html

    There was a “sneak peak” that someone took of the filming of the second joker and there is a Harley in it played by lady Gaga- but this Harley is supposed to be COMPLETELY different and darker

    Cameron.M's Kestis also shoots a character an extra 'unnecessary' time ( unintended Gotham connection )

    Saw this in theatres and was so tense throughout the whole thing! :O I think it's good to say don't treat people like trash if you don't want to suffer the consequences. I'm not talking 'justice' like this iconic scene 33:02 XD but there will be consequences regardless :/
