    GM: Your channel was recommended this morning. I’ve never been to your area. This sounds silly - but my eyes became blurry watching this one in particular. I realized I had tears in my eyes. The beauty of your land and home, your resilience and strength as a young family - breath taking. No matter the crazy stuff - you represent the real America. Thanks for sharing. ✝️🩷

    My last frost date is April 15. I can only imagine how stir crazy you go over your winter. My growing season is long enough to go without fertilizer and watering much of the time. I can buy 25cent tomatoes in August, do nothing to them and harvest in November. Creative solutions are necessary wherever you garden. I like your homemade fences and coups. I like your style and can learn from you, even in a very different environment. You probably don't need dirt on that spot. many plants can be planted directly into moist ground. You could use a cup of sand for sunflower. And wouldn't have to cover the entire area. Or make some really messy and quick hugel beds and throw in some corn.

    Maybe a video on how to find a homestead. We have been in Montana for a long time. We out grow our current two acres

    A video on your native predator prevention methods. Or something of the sort. 😅❤ i love your videos, and I've been wanting to move to an area like you are and build a homestead for as long as I can remember, and I'm 28 now 😅

    I would like to hear about what you grow with such a short growing session I am looking at my seed packets now many have grow times in over 90 days

      A lot of cool loving crops that can take some frost like spinach, lettuce, arugula. My peppers and tomatoes do okay but they stay in the house until late June, then I cover them as needed in July and August.
      There are some cold climate-based seeds I just bought through Snake River Seed Cooperative I’m excited to try.
      Also I do a lot of planting a bunch and just hoping one or two survives so I can seed-save from those.
      Lastly, we’re building a 500 sq ft greenhouse that is loosely based on Arkopia (he is on TH-cam, highly recommend checking his channel out) that will let us grow tropical plants and fish year round with a wood stove to heat it.

      Very poor soil quality. We have 1/4 to 1/2 inch of topsoil at the most, it doesn’t hold water and it’s full of rocks so it’s hard to put roots down. 😅

    Do you have specific trees that you look for to use for firewood?

    • @CedarHillsHomestead
      @CedarHillsHomestead  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, larch/tamarack and Douglas fir are our two favorites. We occasionally burn cedar if it’s down and in our way but it’s a very small minority, probably under 5% of our firewood is cedar.

    Are you ever worried about wildfires being surrounded by large forests like that?

      Constantly 🫣 I’m happy we live here but it does come with a bucket of anxiety in the summer & fall
