I stumbled into that group of desert big horn sheep as I was scouting along a small river sandwiched between massive desert cliff walls. They had come down for a drink. The river was lined with vegetation. There were a dozen of them at first, and then they climbed up the mountain and out of sight, all but that small grouping of 4. I only got that one shot once they'd hiked up the mountain. I love those chance meetings with wildlife that take your breath away.
Thanks! Yeah, GoPro fits fine on a ZII or DeepReaper. Gotta figure out a custom mount if you want them to work well. The ZII comes with a GoPro box of thin choroplast, but I'm building something a bit more sturdy for mine. I tend to push things a bit more than the average pilot, so I want the camera to be safe.
Yes. Only shot in the video with the multirotor. I'm working on a separate video that's entirely footage I shot with my Quad in that same area. Very close-up stuff.
I clicked the video going to rant about using the "Epic" word, its used all over TH-cam on a lot of movies that doesn't deserve it. But this one really does. Great light! Amazing scenery and nice flying. You even wrote and recorded the music for it! You are a guy with a lot of talents, Todd.
You are both My FPV hero and My Utah hero! A lot of My favorite places on Earth in this one. If You had crashed, You would have just walked over and picked it up? Right? Keep up the good work.
Haha! Thanks Michael! Yeah, I've been a bit busy lately, sorry I haven't been posting as many videos. I have so much footage and no time to produce finished films. I've been fortunate to avoid crashes that cost me a rig. I've had a few bumps and bonks, but nothing serious. Cheers!
Your videos are awesome to watch thank you for the time and effort you put into them! Can you please share what post production editing software you use or recommend? Thanks!
I'd seen Factory Butte on a previous trip... it was a lone sentinel out on the horizon, but couldn't figure out how to get to it because the roads in the area are limited. So after returning home, I did some research to find out where and what it was (Google Earth!), and what dirt road got closest, then went back to film it. It was more impressive than I anticipated because I saw it edgewise from the distance, so it looked like a chimney stack. When I arrived, I was shocked!
Yes, but the effect may not be as strong as you think. There's no significant depth perception past 30 feet, so the 3D effect for the majority of the flying would be negligible. Only when I get really close will you notice much 3D effect. Of course you could amplify it I suppose by placing the cameras further apart from each other on the vehicle.
That is the only shot in the video that was taken with a multi-rotor, a quad. You can see the prop blade shadows on the lens a bit at the end of the shot.
I've heard of people getting 10 miles, but I'm hard pressed to get 3 or 4, though I rarely fly more than a mile away. I prefer to get close by car and keep it tight.
I have to ask, is this the Painted Desert? I'm from Australia so am not familiar with America's landscapes that much. I would love to see the entire country of America through your video/music skills. As always stunningly beautiful. Love to see that place, it just screams to me to paint it.
I haven't had any issues with my Hero2's, but I'm getting some UHF signal reduction on my new plane which has the Hero3 on it. Still have to track down the problem and get it solved before I fly it, could be a number of factors. I'll add the Hero3 to the trouble-shooting list and report back.
Ajaaa!! i knew it hehe too good to be a moving take! Anyways a multicopter has also been in my mind to get still images and get into this beautifull hobby. What do you use for multirotor? i was thinking the DJI 450. Cheers man.
How did you get that take with the rams? it looks as if the reaper is not moving or slightly moving it would be great for me to scout the mountains where i hunt in new Mexico! im really thinking of getting your setup looks very nice and quality of scenery is amazing!
thanks for answering that. Still, it seems so totally barren for so huge an area, often some vegetation sprouts almost anywhere, especially if this area was once covered in ice or part of a lake or even the ocean.
I'm using an Aurora9 from Hitec. I've never used a Spektrum radio, so ca't help you there. Go to the DragonLink forum on RCGRoups to get help for that.
Well, Like most FPV`er... I check out cool vids but man.. my hat is off !! I have Fatshark Preds ( 5.8 ) and DL is arriving next week. Will the GoPro fit well on your wing ? Thanks again ! Im inspired !!
Your transmiter being to close to you plane could also be why. Also do you use your gopro as fpv camera for being transmited. If not some ccd cameras are reall really really bad with uhf make sure thats not the problem. also use 1/2 wave antenna on transmiter. ALSO MAKE SURE THAT GOPRO IS ABOUT 12 INCHES FROM THAT RECIEVER OK OR ELSE YOUR RANGE COMPLETELY DROPS
How did you connected the DL system to your radio, i believe that you are using DX6i? arent you? i got everything in the mail just need how to install this mod :D
yeah, you'd have to lengthen that tiny gopro 3d cable and hang cameras off the wings. 10+" apart should show some 3d. Or film to the side or bottom and construct 3d footage out of the video. Rolling shutter is not going to be your friend I'm afraid ;-)
speaking of, ...what are the goats feeding on? In almost all of this footage there is hardly 1 tree or even a bush or any greenery...usually even in deserts there are plants & scattered vegetation, at least from what I could recall seeing, this was so barren & .....over so wide an area.
Another way of watching classic western landscapes
couldn't agree more
well done
This legit is the most impressive FPV/Flyby video I've seen thus far.
Brilliant flying, and video composition, A lesson to all of us FPV pilots - Well done Sir,.

One word if I may;
WOW!
That is great news! Looking so forward to it.
Thank you for sharing your videos with us.
I'm putting the finishing touches on the song for the next video. The video edit is done. So probably some time next week.

Outstanding video. Thank you very much for the pleasure it gave me.
Great flying, editing & music! Your sequence tell a story.
WOW!!

Im still getting though your Videos !! They are AMAZING !!!! Got em on a massive LCD and Im impressed !
BRAVO!
Words cannot aptly describe your videos my friend...well done.
Your videos are awesome to watch thank you for the time and effort you put into them! Can you please share what post production editing software you use or recommend? Thanks!
Awesome.
Thanks for sharing.
You make me feel like I'm there! great job!!
one more winner in the can, great job!
truly great flying and sights.
nut
Super nice video!! Good to see the Henry Mountains again.
Stunning video....great job!!

Great video, made me a bit home sick, as I grew up in that area of Utah.
Awesome job. There were 2-3 scenes that really cought me in this video - the music was fitting to 100%!
You rock! what can I say? Great flying.
Fantastic Again
Yes, I fly from the plane's point of view using a live video downlink. It's the only way to do capture footage like this.

perfectly
Superb!
Another great video. I love to see your work. I still cannot comprehend how you gather this footage. Can you see flight from the plane real time?
I've heard of people getting 10 miles, but I'm hard pressed to get 3 or 4, though I rarely fly more than a mile away. I prefer to get close by car and keep it tight.
very impressive

Jaw dropping...outstanding. I'm buying a Dragonlink tonight! What kind of video range do you get with the Lawmate?
That one shot was taken with a multi-rotor. Everything else was with the Deep Reaper.
I've crashed a few times, usually flying in windy conditions, but never lost a plane.
I haven't had any issues with my Hero2's, but I'm getting some UHF signal reduction on my new plane which has the Hero3 on it. Still have to track down the problem and get it solved before I fly it, could be a number of factors. I'll add the Hero3 to the trouble-shooting list and report back.
you, sir , are awsome! was the mountain goat footage shot with a multirotor?
Nope, a Deep Reaper. I'm building a Zephyr II now to try out. Hopefully be flying in a week or so. Hope you enjoy the DL, it's a great system. Cheers!
Awesome Todd!
That's awesome!! Have you ever crashed up somewhere and not been able to retrieve the plane again?
One person must be afraid of heights.
Ajaaa!! i knew it hehe too good to be a moving take! Anyways a multicopter has also been in my mind to get still images and get into this beautifull hobby. What do you use for multirotor? i was thinking the DJI 450. Cheers man.
Great job! :)

EPIC LUNCH!
:)
I'm happy to boost the qualitative scale of your mid-day gustatory experience!
Stellar Todd. The only thing wrong was that it wasnt long enough :)
Fantastic!~ Great editing. Pleased to find the reference to CrashTestHobby. I've just moved to Utah and have been looking for a source.
thanks for answering that. Still, it seems so totally barren for so huge an area, often some vegetation sprouts almost anywhere, especially if this area was once covered in ice or part of a lake or even the ocean.
Holy shit that was awesome, What a place to fly! How did you find that location? Great vid also man!
I'm using an Aurora9 from Hitec. I've never used a Spektrum radio, so ca't help you there. Go to the DragonLink forum on RCGRoups to get help for that.
That is one epic video. Are there any more coming soon?
Thats just amazing Todd !! Gopro Zepher ?? My DL is arriving next week !!!
How much flight time are you getting with this set up Todd?
epic
Is it the rc link cutting out or the video link cutting out because ive heart gopros interfier with uhf band in reciever
Well, Like most FPV`er... I check out cool vids but man.. my hat is off !! I have Fatshark Preds ( 5.8 ) and DL is arriving next week. Will the GoPro fit well on your wing ? Thanks again ! Im inspired !!
awesome! Could you carry 2x gopro for 3d?

15 min average, 20 max.
perfectly
