I never realized that this community is in some ways a sacrifice you made in your career. I’m so thankful that you share your practice with us and open up the art world to so many creatives! 🥺🤍🤍
I don't see it that way (so sorry if I made it seem that way!). I am happy to do it, it's mainly the journey getting to the point in being so confident in how I navigate my work and being proud of sharing it which was difficult. My main gripe now with the fact that I feel like some peoppe still judge others is that it means the artists i admire aren't assigning time to sharing their process as deeply and i would have loved to be able to consume that content hehe! I really do not see it as a sacrifice, i've had so many opportunities through sharing my work. In the fine art world it may be seen as weird, but in the commercial art world its great! Which is where i see my work thriving anyway!

I hope that I can do the same in the spaces I find myself in. Always love hearing your insight into topics like these :)
I usually let the water I used for watercoloring just sit first until the pigment sunk on the bottom of the glass/jug/whatever. then I will slowly pour the water, making sure I don't disturb the pigment bed, and after I get out most of the water, I wipe the pigment bed with tissue/paper towel/what have you and dispose it to the bin.
This doesn't sound sound bad, how long does it usually take for the pigment to settle?
@@furrylittlepeach I usually leave it overnight just to make sure I have it all settled... my rule of thumb is to have the water look as close as fresh water and you're good to go. I like to think of it like this: the nature (aka my tap lol) gives me a clear water, therefore I need to return it as clear as possible as well.

I want to clarify! The stigma exists but it actually hasn't affected my opportunity in a negative way that I know of - in fact I probably have had more opportunities to work because of the stuff I share - I feel like I wouldn't have been able to make the style of work I like and live from it any other way. I just wish I didn't go through this whole journey of feeling worried about it and being self conscious, and I also wish the artists I admire would make the kind of content I make so I can see into their process! I'm so bummed about the potential of vlogs and content I am missing out on hehehe!

@@furrylittlepeach thank you so much for your reply! Oh I know, you've spoken about it in previous vlogs. The fact that you are who you are and do what you do is surprising to people who really believe it is not possible for artists to eat well (not be poor and starving) and don't support the field. When I started my creative journey, I felt that I had to "convince" some relatives close to me that success as I define it, was possible. I pointed out women in the creative field who do what I work towards and you were an example. As a woman of color, published author, illustrator, public speaker, TH-camr (all the things) you prove them wrong, just being you. Now I have too much to do to get into those debates. Anyways, sorry for the long rant. Do you boo. Happy New Year!

LOL when you told us you were making/launching shirts back in like the summer, I knew I wanted one. Literally set an alarm for 4:55 in the morning so that I could roll over and buy a shirt and then go back to sleep. Then at like a normal hour I saw your story and saw that all the shirts had sold out in 5 minutes, I couldn't help but think "yep, those are my peeeeeople!"

@@furrylittlepeach Colorado is absolutely stunning! I live in Denver but my favorite place I've been to in CO is Ouray! It's called "Little Switzerland" of the U.S. and I would suggest going in the winter! The panoramic mountains are literally breathtaking - I'm sure you & Rocket would get such amazing footage there too. Plus they have a ton of mineral hot springs 😄 There's also an ice climbing fest where you can learn how to climb a frozen waterfall! I know that sounds alarming but anyone can do the beginner wall hahaha - anyway yes once covid is over I hope you both have some fun travel plans! I know I'd love to make a trip to Sydney at some point 🥰🥂 Happy New Year!!

I asked the question about the paint water disposal! I work with acrylics, gouache and watercolors, and for the longest time I was always stumped on how to dispose of it, I've been pretty guilty of just tossing it down the drain if it's still pretty clear but it always felt wrong, and other times I'd absorb it with tissues and stuff but it felt more wasteful that way too. Now I let the water evaporate and wipe the pigment out after it's dry, but it takes WEEKS to get to that point and it feels impractical since I only have a few water jars at my disposal. I was wondering if you would know an alternative, which prompted the question haha
What you can do is to have a bucket with sand outside and pour your paint water into that :)
@@msellenandrea thank you so much!! Oh gosh it was always that simple huh? Everywhere else I looked talked about precipitation of the pigments and filtering and everything too complicated for my confused brain to wrap my head around :')
@@hayapatel_ Youre so welcome! Yeah a lot of people talk about very complicated stuff, I prefer the simple solutions haha. Some people also avoid the toxic pigments when they use watercolor or regular gouache, then its not such a big deal to put it down the drain.
@@msellenandrea yeah, most of my watercolors are student grade or handmade and non toxic,, but the acrylics I use have some toxic pigments and I have a few W&N tubes of gouache and watercolor that use cadmium. I will be buying a lot of sand today haha, thank you again
@@hayapatel_ Im just happy to help :D I think you only need like half the bucket filled with sand. Tbh I havent done this myself as I dont have a place to store it outside. Mold and stuff will grow, so its not a good idea to keep it indoors.

Parcels are just different weight tiers, you can check the tiers with your local postal service 😍
hi sha'an! it was so nice to hear your opinion from my question about the more infuriating parts of creating art in the digital age;; i cant agree more in what you said and i'm so happy to know an established artist feels the same - as im just a wee bud in my first year of art college & i was afraid it was a shortcoming on my behalf... my profs either seem to either loathe using the internet as contextual research or cannot recommend it enough to us as students - i suppose its generational as younger art profs/tutors who are currently in the industry have definitely been the latter!
