The IGP wants the rubbish they call police to continue.
Federal police should be sent for military training so they replace the army in all local security theaters, while each state should launch a police academy to train a police force befitting a civil society and should be headed by an office of the public defender, a lawyer as chief prosecutor of the state that would hold the force to the letter of the constitution and state laws.
Then we can get the local chiefs to contribute their locals for training at the academy to form community police force to be present at every street with at the maximum tasers, but armed with body cameras to form complete 24/7 vigilance of every corner of the state.
The Federal police senior cadre should be upgraded to the level of the FBI, employing only the best and the brightest into their ranks.
The current federal police including Kayode should form the rank and file uniformed cadre, broken up into tactical units that can be deployed to trouble spots and returned to barracks when the job is done, instead of loitering around and harassing innocent people.

Despite the fact that Nigerian Police has failed us they still want to deny us state police. Security of citizens is paramount to any right thinking government. Grassroots policing will help in fishing out criminals, politicians are only thinking about their selfish interest but any one that wants the progress of the country will support state police

What the lGP is talking about is 100% correct but before it can work, let there be dialogue first, without that is not advisable to have state police because there is a lot of agitation in the country. Without the dialogue, that means u are given them free weapons.

The IGP in his position and suggestions as an alternative to State polices demonstrated total ignorance of what the state police is meant to accomplish. In fact he has excluded himself from any meaningful discussion of the state police at every level of consideration. The US presents a model of what Federal, State, City and County (in Nigeria current local government structure) police should be. For people worrying about the role of the Governor to the State police should, the US model can aid the law markers to come up with a law that specifies and monitor what the working relationship should be. As Babajide has pointed out, the governor should never be the Chief Security office of the State and once this is fully established there will not be any power struggle. Right now the police recruitment is conducted based on quotas assigned to every state which can be the total responsibility of each state to conduct their own recruitment. The Federal Government will only maintain a police force that strictly responsible for all Federal Government offices and facilities in the States. with no interference in the State police with only cooperation in relevant areas. The states currently have a number of police and DSS representation, the only difference is in the name.

Any well meaning Nigerian would support state police. The IGP should reason well and do the right thing for Nigeria First. The President should step in and do what is good for our dear country. Why would the IGP saying that the time is not right ?? The time is not right for who?? People are being killed, kidnapping is the order of the day ! Ocultism, curruption and police, Army check points everywhere. Everything is a mess in Nigeria. Mr. IGP for the interest of the people of Nigeria, peace and stability for everyone in Nigeria. The time is well ok for now. State Police for the good of all Nigerian. Thank you as we all move on to a better Nigeria. ❤😊

@@oscarlagoke8920 what is your other opinion to bring progress and stability in the country if I may ask you Mr. Smart? I remember when I was young and was working then as a secretary in one society at PH. I got a message from home that my father almost killed my mum ! I immediatly took permission from my boss and travelled home. After seeing the marks all over my mum's body, that was enough to take bold decision to go the Police station about 4-5 kms from home. When I got there and explained why I came. The Inspector honorably gave to me paper and pen to write my complainning or statement which I did without hesitation and it was easy for me to write as everything was on my head. When I got home with the two officers, my father was begging and promised never to beat my mother again. They took him and garded him for three days. I was the one who went to retreat my complain and we went home together. My father loved me for being bold and always standing up for the right thing no matter who!! Those Police people listened and paid attention to my pleint. I did not paid any thing to them !! No bribe no touching, they did their work because we understood each other !!. We speak the same language, no desrespectfulness no shouting. I was given the right attention. Could you understand what it means to be listened to when you have no one and solution?? Those Police were my hope and they delivered immediatly. One tree can not make a forest!! If you love Nigeria as I do, you would certainly contribute to a better Nigeria. The time is quite right my brother to make Nigeria a great Nation and better for all of us. What are you waitting for?? If everyone try to be less greedy and selfish, Nigeria got everything to be better than Dubaï or UAE. Remain Blessed. 😊

State policing is not a bad idea on paper but i can assure you that Nigeria is not ready for it people underestimate the evil that thrives in Nigeria.. they will simply become privat armys for religious and political bodies.. never underestimate the evil in Nigeria ..religion and illiteracy ...democracy is the best option but understand that some don't even know what is good for themselves and some are ready to watch the world burn with them

State Police is a good but only one or two problems, the state government will definitely abused it and used it against their opposition, also Tribalism some tribes will dominate some and oppressed the minority, because very few states have a single tribe in their states, we must think deeply before we create more problems for our selves, i suggest mass recruitment in the nigeria police, sophisticated equipment, and vigorous training and welfare and wider outreach by the Nigeria police, i think is better and more safer. Also in the Nigerian police we need different types of departments and squads for different purposes, eg Fbi, SWAT, detectives, professionals and of the highest standards...
