    Horrendous, what a Frankenstein of an exhaust system so glad I changed mine for the AEW Te201 Exhaust. It's so much lighter, sounds amazing and the engine or pipes don't get so hot. Well done, nice content!

      Well put! If you ever had any doubts about replacing the cans and o maybe headers, then the videos might just confirm you did the right thing!

    Well done! It looks alot like the ones I had on my old Triumph Speedmaster -07. Besides the cat, that is.
    Different chambers with pipes going back and furth.
    Bin those endcans, go for those lovely ones you bought, go for a ride and enjoy. Let the gretas complain, that's what they do. That's what keeps them together.
    (they don't realize that the plants, worldwide, needs more Co2. That's why they use extra Co2 in greenhouses. To gain a better harvest, since the level in the atmosphere is too low)
    Cheers!

      Too right! And what about all the CO2 emissions, metal and raw materials, precious metals to produce the ‘heavy green’ OEM cans with the cat and kitten? And the plastic Evap cartridge, and the air-injection system…..all of which end up in the bin as they’re useless and require more fuel to cart them about for years?

    Excellent video.

    As a retired brake and exhaust guy I know Cat's break up or plug up... causing all kinds of problems.... sitting at the side of the road waiting for a trailer problem. I was going to hold off on a complete exhaust system swap.... but now I'll do some homework... I'll wait for your road test and a long term report. Thanks for your " autopsy "..... 😎

      That’s interesting! I didn’t realise that cats break up and cause problems! And, if potentially causing a breakdown, worth getting rid of.

    Thank you so much for the detailed autopsy. I had been browsing the internet endlessly looking for hints as to what the stock pipes might look like internally, the closer I got was a video from Revelry Cycles. But your video is as clear as it's ever going to get. Now we know.
    3 chambers? 3 DB killers?? No wonder that pipe is so heavy and quiet. I don't think I've ever seen anything so restrictive on a motorcycle.
    Keep up the good work!

    Stock cans are horrendous. Mine ran hot as lava in Australia. Received a 3rd degree burn from can - burnt through my riding pants! I now run similar headers to yours and AEW TE201s. Bike runs cool as a cucumber and sounds awesome but not offensive

    Interesting. I was looking at the benefits of catalytic convertors recently (after comments I received on youtube). From what I read, the amount of CO2 and water vapour produced (Greenhouse gases) is slightly more with the cat (as it converts other dangerous gases to these less toxic gases. So while it does reduce these very unpleasant/toxic gases/harmful (Hydrocarbons, Carbon Monoxide, Oxides of Nitrogen etc) by a significant amount, there is not a reduction in greenhouse gas emmisions. I'm not suggesting catalytic covertors are bad, the gases they remove/convert are pretty nasty and detrimental to health and the ozone. (However I'm guilty of removing my end cans on my continental too ...and actually feel a bit guilty ...but the exhaust sounds very nice)

    I agree that motorcycle contributions to global pollution must be negligible when compared to the damage caused by air travel and shipping, let alone power stations and large scale industry. We need to keep things in perspective.

    • @internetpolification
      @internetpolification  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A kindred spirit! The epitome of emissions nonsense is the Evap system. All that cost and co2 emission used in the manufacture of pipes, a plastic box full of charcoal, metal spring etc ….just to absorb the minuscule amount of vapour that comes out of the petrol tank breather, resulting in three attempts to start the bike and rough running. Great idea.

    Having taken an interest in the (original) exhausts on many of my bikes over the years that flow looks pretty standard, build quality looks a bit iffy though but then again it’s not an expensive bike (relatively speaking) so it’s not going to trouble Akrapovic. Nice work.

    Would be interesting to hear what an exhaust expert has to say about this design. One would imagine a much less restrictive pipe would allow quite a decent number of extra bhp to be had, yet as a previous comment says, the gains are marginal. More noise than substance. A good experiment though to show what’s inside.

    • @internetpolification
      @internetpolification  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That not actually true, based on my road test (imminent video). It’s like a different bike….faster, better handling without the extra kg’s. The gain in performance is by no means “marginal”, in fact. There is a marked difference which surprised me, as I didn’t expect it. Whilst there is more “noise”, it’s not at all excessive although obviously louder than OEM (unsurprising when one considers what’s inside the OEM cans). There is a change in the power band and the bike is definitely faster on acceleration

    • @ruahinesrider
      @ruahinesrider หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      About 1hp 2Nm with aftermarket slip on's but alot less weight.Headers give you about another 4-5hp & 6-7Nm so with both 9-10kg less weight & 5-6hp & 7-9Nm more which is a big difference on a bike performance wise & handling is improved cause 9-10kg lighter & if go 2-2 13-14kg lighter.
      Definitely worth it on a 650 of this weight.

  • @alan2630
    @alan2630 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great explanation thank you. As a technical wuss can I ask if the change of pipes makes any change to the emissions? What about atMOT time?

    • @internetpolification
      @internetpolification  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It probably increases emissions but they’re not tested in the mot. Technically, most after-market cans are supposedly not for use on the road but it’s a daft law, never enforced and fallen into disrepute. Thousands of bikes with after-market cans sail through the mot

  • @srinivaskirthy
    @srinivaskirthy หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi James, thanks for your dissection videos, educative. Have you made an emissions test on your bike before and after the exhaust swap? Would be curious to see the HC, CO2, CO ppm values.

    • @internetpolification
      @internetpolification  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, we don’t do emissions test here in the U.K. not on bikes. Probably an increase? Who knows?

    This is quite extraordinary, a revelation, one that makes me a bit miserable to see such crap designs and rusty and badly welded structures. There is no way this is saving the planet, the added much, metals and weight simply doesn’t make sense.

    • @internetpolification
      @internetpolification  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bang on. Metal and the energy used to smelt it and form it. Then a bike carting it all about for decades. But hey, emissions laws are saving the planet, right? Lol

  • @markunderwood9727
    @markunderwood9727 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Wow that exhaust system was defo designed by a goverment lobby
    I can only guess that our bikes will last longer with a better breathing exhaust system but running slighly cooler those waste gases need a good escape route
    Imagine how hot these standard exhaust systems plus engines get in say a big city in India with heavy traffic

    • @internetpolification
      @internetpolification  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely. India, Australia, some US states etc.

    • @doughoffman9463
      @doughoffman9463 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually no. No lobby involved in the design, or the government either. The government sets the tailpipe and noise 'standards' and leaves it up to the motorcycle manufacturers 'how' to meet those standards. You can guess about lasting longer, but the manufacturers know with data because they all do extensive durability testing. The manufacturers are heavily motivated to design a bike that lasts as long as possible. The motivation is reputation and future sales (i.e., staying in business).

    Message received today which wouldn’t appear on the the channel, so here it is, in full
    Hello James, I posted this but it is not showing up in the comments section of your "Interceptor 650. Exhaust autopsy. Ever wondered what's inside the cans?".
    @doughoffman9463
    Catalytic converters really have nothing to do with the so-called "climate change". By the way, I think the climate change people are wrong.The climate change people are worried about creating CO2. The catalysts do not and cannot reduce CO2. The catalysts reduce unburned hydrocarbons, CO, and oxides of nitrogen (NO, NO2, NO3), all of which are not something we want to breathe. I wonder what motorcyclists will do when Euro 5b comes. My understanding is that a Euro 5b spec bike will detect if the catalyst(s) are not working via on board diagnostics(OBD). There may even be a periodic inspection to check that your exhaust system has not been modified from manufacturer spec. and the OBD has not detected emission related faults. Of course you will be OK because your bike is not Euro 5b. Go ahead and delete this post if you think it is inaccurate or I am out of line. I won't even get into the issue of increased noise. Check out "The Truth About Aftermarket Exhausts" from MC Garage (A TH-cam video).
    If I said anything that is incorrect please let me know. If I said anything aggressive or inflammatory please let me know. I realize that this kind of information is not what aftermarket exhaust installers want to hear, but it is the truth as I (and others) understand it.
    Respectfully,
    Douglas B. Hoffman
