CosplayCore and this time mention that we don't want a shit story if their going to make a brand new ride that has Dreamfinder and Figment.instead of just bringing back the original. I'd be fine with either of the 2
Sadly there’s little to no chance it will come back, unless disney can get a sponsor who would be willing to pay for a complete overhaul of the ride and pavilion. But the chances of that is very slim.
They kinda can’t. Not only would it be costly, but the original ride had some major design flaws which was why they got rid of it. They wouldn’t be able to reuse the ride mechanics because of the flaws, so they would have to redo the entire engineering. I do agree this ride is better but there is no way Disney could do that.
Wish I could have experienced this masterpiece. When I was younger I fell in love with figment, not even knowing something as beautiful as this version existed. Of course the current one will always have a special place in my heart, it being a huge part of my childhood and all, but damn this looked phenomenal. Forever wishing figment was back in his former glory, it's sad to see him so unpopular and pushed aside.
The first time I rode the current version, there was just something about it that made me certain it had been cut down from something bigger and better. Then I went online and read all about the original version and cried a little.
One of my favourite things about this ride was the lovely rose smell at the start of the ride. It was really strong but nice at the same time. You know that rose fragrance that you get in perfumes? It was like that. I bet everyone who was on the ride remembers it. It lasted for a couple of minutes although it was strongest just as you boarded the vehicle. Obviously it's the one thing that a video like this can't convey.
it pleases me that the younger generation can still look at this video and appreciate the ride like i did when i was on it. i have still yet to go on every version that came after this. i saw a video and was disappointed. i am nearly 40 years old now.
siramay the showgun dragon network well unfortunately, Robert Sherman passed away a couple of years ago, but yeah, if Lin Manuel Miranda agreed to be on board and work with Richard Sherman, it would be Fantastic!
I loved this ride as a kid. I'll never understand why they felt the need to change it because unlike most rides, it wasn't one that would seem dated or "old". It was just fun and very popular. Changing it is definitely one of Disney's biggest mistakes.
ReviewsTechNow they changed it, I think, because they had major faults in the track and the rotating dreamfinder scene. It kept breaking down so they just threw it away and gave us this half thought out replacement. They actually cut out about half the track from the original ride. I vaguely remember this ride from when I was a child but remember the dream finder scene and song. It’s a shame- hope they do better for figment and bring back the threamfinder.
Actually Kodak wasn’t able to maintain its full sponsorship of the ride, and the ride needed major updates. Kodak gave very little money for maintaining the ride. Disney, already under financial pressure from the failure of Euro Disney, was unable to allocate enough funds to make the needed updates. Therefore they settled on altering and shortening the ride because it was all they could afford with Kodak’s little contributions. This is only one of the problems Disney was facing at the time, another was the rapid loss of sponsors for Epcot. They just didn’t have the money.
Did you see the 1999 version? It was the incarnation that came immediately after this one. It was beyond awful. Makes the current ride look like a masterpiece by comparison.
I am with you. I am 38 and first experienced this ride in JAN-86 and loved it instantly and never grew tired of it while it existed. It was so heartbreaking seeing how much it changed when I went in 2005 (for the last time).
Thanks so much for posting this. I went in 1995. I was 4. I remember this ride, like much of the trip, vaguely. In my memory, I see lots of colors, and I can hear that theme tune. The nostalgia I feel almost hurts. I wanted to see what this ride looked like with grown-up eyes. I wish I could have known.
Alas, such a work of beauty and creativity! I can't stand the current version of journey into imagination. It lacks the imagination and creativity this ride used to have. It was inspiring and told the beautiful message of letting your imagination carry you different places. I pray and hope that Disney will bring back this version of journey into imagination, it was so much better than the monstrosity currently being displayed at the EPCOT center.
I’m glad that videos of dead rides exist but this makes me so sad because it’s like a tiny glimpse of how magical it must have felt to be there, and so many people will never get to. Disney should really focus on bringing back classic old rides like this before doing more damage for their movie-of-the-year expansions.

This original attraction captures your wonder, awe and taps into areas of creativity missed on a coaster or thrill ride. It should be updated and brought back as seen here.
So thankful for someone having the idea to record this, I wish it could be high quality but I'm so glad it exists, I grew up with Journey into Your Imagination with Figment and love that ride simply because it was a part of my childhood
This video, along with my memories of riding, convinces me that this would still be popular today if it still existed. It's a Disney ride...crammed to bursting with so much audiovisual detail that it's impossible to take it all in in a single ride, prompting one to experience it as many times as possible. Some of the visual effects, created in the late 70's/early 80's,are a little bit dated...but I remind readers of a certain pirate ride and haunted house that aren't entirely as they were upon their initial opening. Had they replaced this with something as good,I wouldn't complain...but they didn't. The current ride is a forgettable trek through a bunch of darkened rooms highlighting a single illusion. I'm not even going to mention how the entire pavilion got ruined in the process.
Holy crap. I've ridden this ride a few times and was worried my memory was failing when I didn't recognize a single thing for the first 3 and a half minutes. Then the song kicked in and it all came flooding back.

I first rode this in either '88 or '89 when I was 8 or 9 years old & I've been obsessed with figment & dreamfinder ever since. My family couldn't really afford to do disney vacations regularly when I was growing up so while I'm sad I didn't get to ride it again before it closed when I was in high school I'm glad that I have the (albeit vague) memory of this ride & the spark it ignited in my young brain thanks to videos like this.
As a kid this was my favorite ride. I still have my little figment doll I got in 1995. Such an amazing ride, I'm so glad someone was able to capture this for all of us

I rode the new journey into imagination and loved it. I figures all the nostalgia for the original was just that, nostalgia. I was so wrong. This is absolutely beautiful and a million times better than the new version.
So sad to see this is gone, it was one of the star attractions at EPCOT. I'm hoping they'll bring it back in some form as the current iteration is really bad.
I'm currently recreating this whole ride, including new additions and even augumented reality. I'm trying to bring back what it had. It was so imaginative and creative. I always cried at the end of the original because it's just so amazing. It had such a good message and a good vibe and now it doesn't. I want to bring that message back. Hopefully I succeed. I want to make this ride way better than what it is now. My recreation may not have the original story, but it will still have the same vibe and the same message. I might bring back dreamfinder, but also add a new character who is friends with dreamfinder. Also, one little spark will definitely be in it and I may tweak the lyrics very minimally to fit with my recreation.
Thanks for posting this!! Went on the ride in '87 and '88- but haven't been back to Disney World since. Still have my 12" stuffed Figment, tho- my daughter loves it!
figment will always have a special place in my heart, but i wish i could’ve seen this one. they never should’ve touched this amazing ride because i never got to experience it. i wasn’t born yet when they made it, so i grew up with the current version of jim. it’s so heartbreaking to see this version not in disney anymore.
Tyler Slotta only for a few months, then everyone will get bored of it again. It'll experience the same thing as Captain EO did: everyone went to it for about a year, then everyone lost interest.
I’ll explain why.. in ‘94, Disney started marketing “Honey I Shrunk the Audience” as the main attraction in the pavilion as opposed to the ride & ImageWorks like before, in the early days it was marketed as a 3 attraction experience you had to see all of to truly experience the entire pavilion. First you rode the ride, then you were invited to the upstairs ImageWorks, then after you were invited to go down the escalator to see the 3D/4D movie in the Magic eye theatre. So yeah, after this ‘HISTA is the main attraction in this pavilion’ marketing move happened, This artificially dropped attendance for the ride & ImageWorks and many newcomers would go & see ‘Honey’ and not even know the ride or ImageWorks are there due to the intentional lessening of marketing, queue rope positioning, signage, and spieling about them on the monorail on said ride & interactive area. Not to mention, when the movie ended, it spilled you out into the fountain garden area near the exit. So yeah, This data would then be used to prove that ‘Honey I Shrunk’ was more popular than Journey into Imagination. Thus, in ‘99 they rethemed the entire ride & pavilion to reflect said film IP and it’s been a sad shell of it’s former self ever since..
when you first enter this version those were like typical sounds of the 80's. this version is so much better than the current I rode this ride like 2 times in a row one time when I went in 1993..
Oh why did they ruin this incredible attraction. This was a BEAUTIFUL pavilion, the ride was incredible, and the ImageWorks were great as well. And you captured the ride best you could with the technology of the time. Sadly I never got to experience this, since I'm sadly too young, but this blows the current one out of the water in every way. So much longer and more detailed, as well as more to do with Imagination than the current one. DISNEY PLEASE BRING THIS BACK! For heaven's sake the current version has been there for longer than this great version. And I know you will probably not do it anytime soon, considering Bob Chapek is the new CEO, but bringing this back would 100% restore my confidence in you. I know it probably won't happen any time soon, considering how much money you lost in this coronavirus pandemic, but please if Walt isn't rolling in his grave please bring this back!
Thank you for sharing this video with the world. I never got to experience the original, but have always had a deep appreciation for this attraction’s history and for the icons that came from this version. It’s probably never going to return in the state we see in this video, but I have high hopes that one day Figment and The Dreamfinder will once again be in the spotlight of Epcot and continue to bring out the Little Spark in a new generation of dreamers.
The nostalgia makes me cry. I miss this original attraction so much. I was first there in 1985. I wish this version still existed. The one that replaced this is terrible and disappointing. Bring back the Dreamfinder and return this attraction to a similar version of the original, please.
oh how I miss this version! I rode this when I was a kid and when I returned as an adult it was completely different:( I would still ride it because it is the only Figment ride and I love figment(because of this version)! I also love going during the Festival of Arts because he is the mascot and posted everywhere lol...love him! I was ecstatic to meet Figment (2007?) but wish I could've met Dreamfinder!
I miss the ride that I remembered in the 1980s with dreamfinder and figment I wish I could ride that ride again I wish Tony Baxter whould bring back the original ride back to Epcot
So great to see this original ride. Disney absolutely destroyed such a great attraction. If anyone at Disney had any sense they would get the dream finders flying machine out of Mouse Gear and restore this ride to its original glory!!!
I would love it if Disney remade the ride with Dreamfinder and Figment together again. They can use screens and projectors and 3D glasses for all I care, just bring Dreamfinder back. (Properly that is)
If you haven't read it, the Marvel comic series based on the original ride is a must. Disney originally intended it to be a bit of an underground niche title for the nostalgic crowd, but it quickly grew into one of the best selling Marvel titles of that year. It was arguably Disney's biggest exposure to how big and dedicated the ride's fan base really is since the ride was overhauled, and I think they're still keeping an eye on its sales to see if people are still interested in the original ride at all. The first two miniseries are available in hardcover, and a third series was confirmed at Comic Con last July (though nothing has come of it since: like Rick and Morty's third season, they're apparently still working on it).
Oh, I know about the comics. XD I bought one of the first two issues as soon as it came out (I waited near one of our comic book stores for like WEEKS) ((not really, but it seemed like I did that)). It looked awesome! Unfortunately though at the time, I couldn't find the first issue ANYWHERE and when issue 3 came out, I was at Disney World and actually IN EPCOT at Journey Into Imagination! Go figure (figment)! But sadly, their gift shop didn't carry the comic at the time and I was unable to get my hands on the next issue... It has now been several years. But I didn't know they're in hardcover now! That's another comic to add to my list of hardcovers to get! :D
This is such a beautiful looking ride! One wonders why they chose to replace it. To me just doing a refurbish to update some of the technology like the videos or projections would have been the way to go. I like Monty Python and all, but Eric Idle as Dr.Channing can't come close to Dreamfinder.
This is truly amazing. Disney should have never TOUCHED this ride.

I remember the dreamfinder and figment used to always greet me at the entrance to this attraction. Thanks for bringing back good memories of epcot.
Such an amazing ride, I'm so glad someone was able to capture this for all of us
One of my favourite things about this ride was the lovely rose smell at the start of the ride.
I rode the new journey into imagination and loved it. I figures all the nostalgia for the original was just that, nostalgia.
I was so wrong. This is absolutely beautiful and a million times better than the new version.
The close-up shot of Figment's face at 14:30 is priceless
I have to say this is the best version of Journey into Imagination!
Not the second one,
Not the current one,
This one!
can we get public outcry loud enough to make them bring this back? this deserves a place in the parks more than any marvel stuff they’re putting in.
One little spark is such a joyful song and Figment is adorable
I miss this to death. It's hard to believe that 16:17 is now a giftshop.
And the original finale scene is now where the new imageworks is.
It uh, was a gift shop back then too...
@@memefinder2528 There was some Figment merchandise but it was mostly a queue line, not a full gift shop like it is now.
@@BombBombora and the old Imageworks has been sealed off by a DVC member lounge :(
I remember this ride as a kid! I still sing the song at times without realizing
How is it going so far?
We need to bring back the dream finder, he’s too good of a character to be lost to time
Thanks for posting this!!
I miss this ride. The new one is just okay. I've always loved Figment.
I miss this version so much. Rest In Peace, Billy Barty. The original voice of Figment. And Chuck McCann. The voice of the Dreamfinder.
I wish I had a time machine. I'd definitely go back in time and ride this masterpiece.
Looks like back then not many people went on this ride but if they brought the original back the line would go out the doors
Tyler Slotta only for a few months, then everyone will get bored of it again. It'll experience the same thing as Captain EO did: everyone went to it for about a year, then everyone lost interest.
@@superfamfan866No, because this is an incredible dark ride that's one of Disney's best, unlike the (also good, but not as good) Captain EO
@@benjaminroberson1924 Nah Hes right the origional ride still wouldnt really be popular with todays audiences and guests.
This ride perfectly captured what imagination is all about, unlike the later ones.
the best way to describe this ride is what you see in your dreams! pure imagination! Wish they still had this version at EPCOT
when you first enter this version those were like typical sounds of the 80's. this version is so much better than the current I rode this ride like 2 times in a row one time when I went in 1993..
It will never be the same. I feel so privileged to have seen it in this state.
Wow! what an Incredible ride...😍🤩😪
Oh man, this was my favorite ride as a kid, I even had a figment doll! The nostalgia!
The nostalgia is very strong here
I finally see what I missed, and it was beautiful
I loved that ride! I still know the song and sing it 2my dog
I heard Tony Baxter (who designed the original version) wanted to come out of retirement to bring it back. Fingers crossed!
@@superlolbrothers6559 Yes, that would be so great!
@@benjaminroberson1924 complaining doesn't get you anywhere you eat now
Wow this ride was beautiful. You can tell it was made with a lot of love
Omg ! The old version which I loved is so much better then the new version in my opinion. Loved the video!
wow i dont get why you would change such a beautiful attraction ... this is really just more magical then what is now. :(
I went to Epcot on my honeymoon in July of 1996 so this brings back so many memories!
Miss the original journey into imagination with the dream finder 1988, went back in 2013 gone ..
This version is the best! IF THEY DON'T BRING BACK EVERYTHING FROM THIS RIDE, I WILL SCREAM, "DISNEY!! MAKE THIS RIDE BETTER BY 2020!!!"
#Bringbackimagination
This would’ve been fun......but now it’s gone 😭
Thanks for documenting one of the best rides ever created for Epcot. We had some video of this but VHS quality is lacking due to time
Wow this is so much better than the current version. Makes me so sad. Bring dream finder back :(
Thank you for sharing this video with the world.
Gutted I never got to go on this ride. It looked like the best ride in Epcot 😢❤ Hope Disney brings this back 🙏
i wish they would bring this back because i never got to see it for myself. i wasn't even born yet when this was recorded.
oh how I miss this version!
Thanks so much for posting this. Was my fav ride as a kid. Didn’t think I could find this since it’s been closed for 22 years! Ty ty ty
I miss the ride that I remembered in the 1980s with dreamfinder and figment I wish I could ride that ride again I wish Tony Baxter whould bring back the original ride back to Epcot
Figment is so cute!
6:12 is where the current version begins, and 13:43 is where the current version ends.
So great to see this original ride. Disney absolutely destroyed such a great attraction. If anyone at Disney had any sense they would get the dream finders flying machine out of Mouse Gear and restore this ride to its original glory!!!
the updated version of this ride isn't even close to being as good as the original . so glad I was able to enjoy the original
I would love it if Disney remade the ride with Dreamfinder and Figment together again. They can use screens and projectors and 3D glasses for all I care, just bring Dreamfinder back. (Properly that is)
Without Dreamfinder, Figment is useless. Without Figment, Dreamfinder is useless.
I want more Figment merchandise... He's so cute! I've loved dragons since I was a little girl...
AdrenalineAddict610 and Figment is in Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout.
I wish I could have experienced this version of Journey.
I know I didn’t live at this time but this ride seems so much better
Its such a shame what was lost this ride was perfect. I hope they bring it back one day
Thank you so much for sharing. This ride and the art pavilion are some of my favorite memories
I never watch this without crying.
Great imaginative ride back there, looks like something off LBP when watching this. And it was filmed in Jan '96; I was 4 yrs old.
This is such a beautiful looking ride! One wonders why they chose to replace it. To me just doing a refurbish to update some of the technology like the videos or projections would have been the way to go. I like Monty Python and all, but Eric Idle as Dr.Channing can't come close to Dreamfinder.
This ride is very charming. I can see why riders liked it so much!
While watching this video I sang the whole song "One little spark" That was playing during the ride😁😆😉😍
So, so, SOOOOO sad that this is gone.
I was shocked when I visited this in 2002 after the renovation. This version (original) was and still is the best.
Ah, back when this ride was at its best. It NEVER should have changed.
I went on this ride in 1988, 1990, 1991/92, 1993, 1995/96, and finally December 1997.
This ride had....oh what's that word.... oh man it's on the tip of my tongue.....oh right, CHARM!
