Really appreciate this video, man! Gave me a good heads up of what to expect when I was cracking open my Proteus and adding some more ROM sticks. Thank you!
Wow, what a simple fix. I am stupid when it comes to this stuff and would be really nervous to do this, but you made it look easy. If the PSU on my E-MU units goes, I think I will be confident now, in fixing this myself. Thanks for sharing!
Replacement is pretty easy, nothing is soldered. As mentioned to Harley Rider, if you can't find a new power supply, I'd bet any local electronic repair shop could re-cap the blown capacitors. In that case, you'd just remove it, get it repaired, and re-install.
eBay, I found a serial on the PSU and dug it up with google fu. Turns out these PSUs were used in a number of devices across several manufacturers. Your other option is to identify which capacitor blew up, order a new one, de-solder, and replace. Electronic repair is an art, but a worthy pursuit.
Nice fix. I have the same issue and I'm looking to buy the power supply. Can you share the link where you purchased your from? Nice drumming and ending to your video. Dope!
I scored the PSU off ebay - however, that power supply was standard across Akai and Emu devices day in the day; they'll pop up from time to time. I think this one might work. www.synth-parts.com/en/products/power-supply/powersupply-internal/5503/e-mu-switching-powersupply-65w-internal
thanks for sharing this video,,,i have a question\\\\i own preteus 2000 i would love to know how to get those ram to put inside those slot inside to extend sounds ,,and tell me once the new ram are added how to program them to appear on the screen like the default sounds? ,,
You can find those sticks on eBay, however they are not cheap. Once installed the new instruments appear within the menus. I believe the menu shows you which library you're viewing, in the lower left it will say "comp" as in it's playing the Composer rom library.
Another option is buying a few extra Proteus modules for parts. I have both the Mo Phatt and Proteus 2000 as the parts are interchange since they are basically the same hardware. I can use one of them as a parts machine.
@@studiopaisley6039 I guess you mean the Rom cards? Yes. The Hardware is pretty much identical minus the extra spidif and analog i/o options. All parts are interchange as they are part of the Proteus 2000 family. I own both the E-MU MO Phatt and Proteus 2000 module's. I pulled the Pure phatt card out of my MO phatt and moved it to my Proteus 2000 while I kept the MO Phatt as a parts machine. If you can't find a specific expansion ROM card you are better off buying thr full module and pull the cards our of them and keep the extra module for parts. That's the way to do it.
I gotten my Proteus 2000 as a steal that was under $300 that came with an extra card installed the Xtreme-Lead 1 in excellent condition. I only have one slot left since it has 3 cards in it. The MO Phatt has two slots which is basically a stripped down version of the Proteus 2000 that has half of polyphony. The polyphony cards are removable as well as I can basically boost the Mo Phatt 64 polyphony to 128 note polyphony. The modules were designed as modular based instead of hardware parts.
The sounds are from the DTX502. However, the Proteus does have many kits. I'm working on sampling the hardware I have, but I'm not sure the best way to share the samples.
You can buy a new one at eBay and REPLACE wrong PSU, while I can FIX them (cost just 2...3 dollars !). True, I don't make video about how to use a screwdriver. ;-))

Oh sweet! What did you add? Those ROM packs on eBay are enticing

@@studiopaisley6039 thank you. So far, my unit is working fine, but I'll keep that in mind for the future.

Bingo! Definitely hopped on the throw back sound fonts for that part 😻
Any insights on replacing the LCD backlight? thx
If you need a new screen check out syntaur.com/, if it's actually backlit, take a very close look at the terminal, might be a gap in the solder.
Where exactly did you order the power supply?

@@studiopaisley6039 cool thanks for the info.
mine i after 10 mns turned on it starts to change fx settings by itself... any idea?cheers
Sounds like a MIDI issue. Might try a menu dive and locate the midi in and out settings. Make sure you dont have channels mixed up.

The only difference is the ROM chip right?
