  • After the last BAMF 2 video hitting a 10-minute flight with a single throw, I've been challenged to do the same with the Deviant 1m DLG. It could have gone south and ended quickly, but we hit a nice thermal down low... phew! This is what flying RC gliders are all about.

    Go out and try a one-throw 10-minute flight with your 1m! It's a fun challenge and really makes you focus :) Have fun!

    Conratulation! I deal with F3K category too in Mini one meter size but only two Channel. The Best Time on a training flight was over 27 minute. Awesome what these mini DLGs are able tó produce!❤❤❤

    I made 40min flight with my 1m DLG with single throw at last month. Circling radius are smaller than 1.5 ship, so easy to stay near the thermal core, that have strong lift. Nice size!

      Thanks for sharing, I don't think my neck can take 40 minutes! :D

    You're having to work the air a bit there to get started, but it was glorious after that. I love 1m dlg. It's my favourite.

      The first two minutes of the flight were the most fun 😎

    Nice job and great flight! Love this video since it might be showing me something I'm doing wrong. You are flying your Deviant much faster in the thermal than I am with mine. Whenever I have calm conditions mine seems to thermal much slower than what I just saw. Are you using any ballast? Next time out I'll try to keep more speed in the turns and see how it goes. Thanks for doing what you're doing! Your time spent is a great addition to the community!

      @ArmSoar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to fly my planes a little bit faster, especially when there are thermals as the speed increase helps with plane stability and I like that crispy feel as well. Essentially, I'm trading off a bit of efficiency for easier handling. In very calm and soft thermal conditions I do fly my Deviant slower and closer to the edge of stalling, but I don't do that unless I 'need' to, as the increase in workload and flight precision IMHO can bite you if you're not careful.

    Very nice flights! Yes, the first minutes are the hardest parts of these flights. I like when You try to get some lifts above the building. Bravo! 👏👏 What is the average launch height of this glider?

    hey thomas, i really would like to see a video with a launch tutorial, with foot, arm and body work, with some super slow motion clips. i'm struggeling to get my fw5 rookie to good heights, and i'd like to improve my throwing technique ✌

    Hi Thomas, great flying. Can you get some closeup pics of the wind indicator on your X20? I just received my X20S from Armsoar USA and will be downloading the DLG template. Will also need to install a rod with a string like yours for wind direction. Thanks.

      I’m embarrassed to say, although I’ve made 3D printed mounts for my other radios, it’s simple a fibreglass rod wrapped with some tape to get it to the correct diameter and then plugged into the DSC connector.

    I would like to see some advice on how to tune launch and zoom modes.
    I find my constant battle is: either I have a bit more up elevator in launch mode and it’s really nice without wind, but if I launch into the wind the plane wants to do an immediate loop behind me, or I reduce the up elevator and it launches nicely into wind but in dead air it’s too flat.

    • @basgerritsen9669
      @basgerritsen9669 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just have my preset deflection linked to the trims In launch/zoom mode. That way I can adjust the preset on the fly.
      Try it out!

    Hey Thomas, are you liking the x20 radio, do you think its a steep learning curve coming from JR....I like the receivers Frsky offer glider pilots

    • @ArmSoar
      @ArmSoar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paul, I like it quite a bit. It's a bit different than the JR-style programming, so there will be a slight learning curve. But, it is WAY easier than OpenTX for someone just getting into it. The graphical interface is much more familiar to pilots used to JR and other traditional radios, but the flexibility is way beyond that IF you want to use that.
      Check out my template video (th-cam.com/video/USNN0d6yIaQ/w-d-xo.html), it'll give you a pretty good idea on how the radio works. You can also just download and use my templates linked in that video if you like.

    When you started to climb and said, "The thermal was a bit more in front," it kept bumping your right wing tip, and you kept making left turns, staying on the outer edge of the thermal... remember to turn into the thermal, in that case right turns. Always try to find the core of the thermal. Nice video, thank you for sharing.

    Let's make different pushrods and techniques of. Carbon repairs. Different ways to tie off beadalon. Different wire types and benefits. Servo arms vs pulleys. Ways to secure wire at the servo arm.

    • @mr.taylor711
      @mr.taylor711 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. Repairs is something that many are concerned by. The most common like LE dings and openings from mid-air, TE repairs and boom breaks (although that is covered well already).

    • @ArmSoar
      @ArmSoar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I plan on doing my next repairs on camera when the need arises… but for better or for worse my planes are in good condition right now 😅 even that crash the other day with the BAMF2 didn’t break anything… darn it!

    Its sort of like watching a golf match on TV where is the ball (Plane) I might make a video similar to this one but without a plane, concentrating on the sky and commenting the non seen aktion. That would be a fake ?
