We make traditional grass mats that we give during wedding ceremonies, I have loads of those up in my ceiling so I’ll be using those I just couldn’t figure out how to do the roll up thingie. Thanks for this tutorial! It’s back to the hardware shop for j hooks tomorrow.

I understood everything only thing am unclear about is what were you doing with the plyers thing and the hook I whish the person had took the camera closer to your end
I was shooting all myself, thats why couldn't take the close up. I pressed the opening of J hook with the pliers, to make it a closed circle so that the chords don't slip out. I hope it helps. :)

its very simple, the way you pull up, you have to loosen the string (the string will go up/reverse action) to bring it down.

These mats are local. Bought it from road side vendor selling these mats for just 150 rupees each.
