Some of the letters like MTJ and I.H. are codes, which when inputted for your name if you get a top 5 score unlock a special item which will basically kill all of the enemies on stage 1 turning them into diamonds.

Ah right, that's interesting! I also learned since making this video that MTJ is the signature of the game's creator Fukio Mitsuji, so I assume the other initials spread through the game are other developers too!

Good review. I played this game as a child and I had a lot of fun playing it. I didn't know there was a remake for ps1 with cutscenes

Thanks! Yeah me too, luckily the game was just as fun as I remembered and has aged quite well. There's only the one opening cutscene and it doesn't really add anything to Bubble Bobble or Rainbow Islands but it's nice to have there!

How do u select 2 player on the classic game, nobody shows that, every time I try , it just switches first player to the opposite remote from the beginning

To play on 2 player from the start of the game all you need to do is press the start button on the second player's controller when it says 'press start to begin' or something to that effect. If you press start on player one's controller it will launch in single player mode. Hopefully that helped!

On Level 83 arent you able to bounce on the bubbles rising from the bottom?

    • @PixelPursuit

Yeah, but that wouldn't help with killing the enemy in the middle. The bubbles aren't close enough to the middle of the stage to do that. It's a damn hard stage to beat! Maybe it's different in other versions of the game though!

In the arcade version, and the classic version on the DS (which is excellent) it works.

Ah right, that's probably a mistake with this particular port then. Weird!

Good lord, the PS1 version. Much like the Sega Saturn version of the game, the physics are entirely broken, you can actually travel sideways through walls you are riding bubbles into. You cannot go sideways through walls in any other version of the game.
Sadly, an awful port that for the console it was on, should've been arcade perfect.
