Now if this elevator had a Hollister-Whitney traction machine, CJ Anderson VX fixtures, and Peelle Doors, then this would have been a good, tasteful modernization. However, since this was in a historic building with an epic sounding motor and generator, it's sad that this one died after 90-100 years, but is a very long time for an elevator.
Yeah, it's sad the old Monty was lost :(
Not only does this one talk, but the doors also don’t slam
Even after I last rode this with you guys back in 2018, over 5 years later it still makes me very sad to see what they did to this thing. One of the old call buttons is still my profile picture from when I filmed this back in 2010.
Wait it talks? Wow, I never heard a freight elevator talk before
Wow! That WAS 1 epic vintage freight elevator. I really loved that generator sound! The only benefit seems to be that the capacity increased, & (for them) the doors are now fire resistant/"more safe." Other than that, pointless replacement. At least the gates are now in a conference room.
I really wish I could have seen the original one :(
Not too bad of a mod but would love to see it original
I viewed the older video, what a nice old vintage elevator it was! Terrible Modernization. That old elevator has the wooded gates, very cool buttons.
Old Montgomery elevators are always a treat.
John Deere's (of farm implement fame) daughter (?) married someone named Webber. That's how this building got its name. If I wasn't so tired I'd look up what they used this for. Either way, I remember this as Merchandise Market when I was REALLY young. There were a bunch of old, funky warehouse clearance stores in this general area. The most famous one was several blocks north called Banks. Banks was in business well into the 1990s. I think this Merchandise Market was gone by 1980 or so... I was only like 9 so forgive the fuzziness of my memory.
Wow, thanks for the history :D
Would have loved to see it vintage
Me too. At least Matt got a video of it.
Who did this mod
I'm not sure.
Aww noooo!
This video was more Andrew complaining then anything lol.
Yup :P
This is probably one of worst mods on a freight elevator. Those doors take forever to close.
I really wish I could have seen the original freight. It was so cool.
RIP Montgomery freight elevator
Yeah :(
NOOOOOOO!!! They modernized it! YUCK!!!
Y?
You aren't allowed to say NUUUU.

It's Jason's channel.
Unique mod
This mod would be a bit better if they didn’t go with Bruiser and actually use PEELLE doors
In the building tenant's eyes: it's a huge upgrade. For elevator enthusiasts... it hurts.
you know what else has been modified the marriott marquis times square nyc have been modernized
Darn. I wish I could have seen the miconic 10.
STL Elevators It has been modded by PORT
OH NO! THIS THING GOT MODERNIZED!
Yea :(
Oh hell naw, it’s been MURDERnized!! :( this has to be one of the worst modernizations I’ve ever seen.
Yeah it's sad :(
Whoever modded this did a good job but I'd rather see the Vintage Montgomery so who modded this? What were the original buttons? In my opinion, the Vintage Montgomery is definitely better than this yucky stinky mod
Look at the video in the description. Matt got a video of this before the mod.
@@stlelevators I did 3 days ago and I saw the old buttons but I don't know what they were
That is basically a full on start from scratch mod :(
Yep....
I would never skip a freight lol
same lol
I hate bashing mods, but after seeing what this replaced, I’m appalled.
I agree with you there.
Seems like they have replaced the motor with a VF motor. I will have to say, this was a despicable replacement overall. Now the lift has NO (very serious, NO) - ZERO character whatsoever. Granted looks boring and generic but it also RUNS boring and generic! "Y FRIRD?" to the guys who modernised this thing
It was. I watched the older video the original traction motor was DC I heard the MG set running up in the machine room as the cab reached the top of the shaft and the comments in the video description. This was a 2:1 roping with two compensating sheaves top of the cab, and likely the counterweight had a sheave.
Copy and paste NOOOOOOOO! 10 times!
what an unnecessary mod.
*E W*
This mod is just stupid and pointless! Great video as always! I just hate how they killed and modernized a great elevator to something that appears to be quite junky.
I hate this mod
EWWWWWWWW!!!
