SpaceX launches the fifth flight test of its Starship from Boca Chica, Texas.

“I was very sad to see that because those guys are heroes of mine,” Musk told 60 Minutes shortly afterwards, choking up as he struggled to respond to dark warnings from the first man on the moon that the US space programme risked heading on a “long downward slide to mediocrity”.
“What I’m trying to do is make a significant difference in spaceflight and help make spaceflight accessible to almost anyone,” Musk said.
Armstrong, who was the first person to set foot on the moon in 1969, and Gene Cernan, who was the 11th in 1972, later emphasised that they wished success on Musk and other newcomers to the commercial space market. Yet they also warned that President Obama’s direction to commercialise space could have devastating consequences in time, money and safety.
