Great videos mate! Just bought this skimmer myself. Starting up my very first saltwater tank soon. Can’t wait to see how good this skimmer is and how quite. I was confused about it not having the defused plate at first until your video 👍 Keep up the great work! Your tank looks great.
Nicely reviewed! I thought I’d mention this in case you or anyone’s on the market for new skimmer: Since Vertex went out of business...they’ve been on sale at very low prices (here in USA anyhow). No warranty support anymore of course..but as the Vertex skimmer’s build quality is superb- I recently bought a new Omega 150 for cheap and paired it up with an Octo Varios 2S skimmer pump. Many seem to think pumps need to be perfectly matched to skimmers..this is not true anymore with DC pumps available. And with no service or parts available for Vertex/Sicce pumps ..switching to a new adjustable DC pump was a perfect upgrade and makes this a fantastic deal for a top level skimmer. I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s still a real shame Vertex went belly-up though.
I just recently picked up the 600i from Deltec USA, I was pleasantly surprised that they now include a cup drain tube and their manual cup neck cleaner on the 600i. Thanks for the review so far I really like the skimmer it is very user friendly. 👍
I own it since the beginning of my 220l reef which is like 8 months. Great skimmer, does great job. I disagree on the quality, maybe not the highest but its ok. It's super light built making maintenance very easy. Personally I take it off the shump every 8th week to clean it. Drain hose not a huge drama.
Great review! I follow you every week. I was thinking of getting the 1500i but couldn’t find many good reviews. Maybe I should jump in and get one then do a review?! Keep up the great work and one day hopefully I will have as many subscribers as you for my little channel. Stay sage and best wishes.
I got my first one 2019. And I was super happy with it. The down part was that the water level sticker was bad on mine to. I just replaced my old one from 2019 with a new one from 2022. And they have replaced the old sticker. And the build quality feels better now and they have changed the plastic. The new one is preforming just as good as the old one from 2019. This shimmer is cheep and awesome!
Very impressed with the 1000i. Ordered and breaking in with some of the most concentrated foam have ever seen in a new skimmer(180gal). Near no noise at all. The one area not sure about is the squeegee built in to the lid? Always thought that would ruin the laminar flow but so far seems pretty impressive as it breaks in and unlike others it is all smooth with no sharp edges.
My 220 was never silent but it was quiet at first. The water depth makes a big difference as does making sure all screws are tightened the right amount. But AC skimmers are often just a bit buzzy in my experience.
hey, i was wondering if you could make a video on removing diatoms... ive been following you to build my tank and my tank looks amazing. but after my last water change (using RO water & everything) i started having a diatom outbreak... idk what could be the cause.
There could be silicates in your ro water, particularly if you only have one di resin pod. So that's the place to start. Conches eat diatoms too (they're also awesome 🙂)
What made u change out ur skimmer for a new one? I have a bubble Magnus curve 5 does an ok job for the price but no controller on it I used to have a smaller skimz sn123 it was too small for my tank but did have a controller there is pros and cons to every thing 😀🙃

I did a mini update here - th-cam.com/video/JbDkX3WRG2g/w-d-xo.html It's absolutely fantastic though - so quiet, never overflows or needs adjusting, and it's super compact. Oh, and it pulls out some absolute FILTH!
@@ReefDorkmy 1000i at 80% and the gate fully open. I thought the faster speed the better for the tank as more O2 in the water and more organic out. Whats the reason you run at 50%?
Hey Alex, bit of a throwback for you commenting on this video, however I need some advice please. After having my Red Sea RSK 300 set up and running for a few weeks. I am (and the Mrs!) starting to get fed up with the loud hum through the house. It’s on silicone everything and works a treat, but just ends up so loud. It’s really starting to bug us. I’ve been looking at these deltecs as a few friends say they love theirs, but I just wondered how quiet is the DC pump regarding hum? And which size to get, as I think I’d only need a 600i however I like the drain tube of the 1000i, but worry about it being too big then. I have a WB marine x 110.4. So roughly 400l total volume ish. Thanks so much in advance!!!
It's very quiet even after almost 2 years. It's not as quiet as it first was, but it's totally fine and I don't hear it. My old Nyos skimmer was loud - drove me crazy! I'd go for the 600i - you can easily fit a drain line yourself - I did a video on how to do so for this skimmer. Prestige Reef did a video about your skimmer showing how to make it quiet - you might have already tried what he suggests but it's worth a watch
@@ReefDorkthanks so much for the reply! 👌🏽 that’s great, thank you. Did watch your video on the DIY drain hose so might go down that route. Yes, I did try what was suggested in prestige reef’s video but still no luck. Just the low loud hum of the pump itself. Without the skimmer my whole set up is literally silent. Such a shame
Mine's probably around 9" too, maybe slightly shallower. I didn't look for a sweet spot as such though, I just set the platform to its lowest setting and chucked it on!
@@hamzarazak1 mine is still running. I have upgraded to a 200gal system and is still pulling out dark stuff. Same level and pump speed at 7 and lowest water level that Deltec requires in the site tube.
Hi Alex, great review. Also looking to ditch my NYOS Quantum 220 due to the noise. I currently have a tube attached to the air inlet of my Nyos which draws in fresh air from outside & helps keep pH higher. Looks like the 'anti-overflow' design of the Deltec would prevent me from doing the same thing (and still be able to benefit from this feature). Can you confirm if that's the case or is there another air inlet somewhere that I could use?
Yep, exactly right. I avoided a scrubber for that reason until a few months ago. While I like the overflow protection, it's never been needed in the time I've had the skimmer... But there's no 2nd hole so you have to choose either co2 scrubber or overflow stop...
Are you still running this on 50%? I used to own the RSK600 on a Evolution Aqua 1200 Reef Pro but it was huge! So I looked to change it and went with this skimmer. I cannot get it to skim it's either too wet or to dry. My RSK was a beast and skimmed no matter what. I've found this one all over the place and overflowing randomly. I'm not sure whether it's worth keeping or not.
Hi mate just wondering how your getting on with this skimmer after 10 months? Do you prefer it to the Nyos you had?? In the market for one and trust your reviews.cheers
Great review. Thanks. I am looking to purchase one, and debating between the 600i and the 600ix. Do you think it's worth saving the $50, and getting the 600i? What are the pros and cons between the two
The ix has a non-adjustable AC pump, whereas the i has an adjustable DC pump. The DC is well worth it in my opinion - quieter and the adjustment is really useful
I have never had a Deltec skimmer but I am surprised by your thoughts on quality, I always assumed they were good quality, i have had 2xTMC (terrible) 1xBubble Magus (good) and 1xNyos (good, but not as amazing as I had hopped) :-)
What a shame, Deltec used to be high quality kit, sadly they haven't kept up with the times and I don't see too many tanks full of Deltec gear anymore.
Maxspect is a bad joke. The venturi's have sharp right angles you NEVER design if you know anything about skimmers. It clogs in just a few weeks and a real pain to try and get the salt out packed in so tight. Also salt leaks into the air inlets at the bottom. Whoever designed it knew nothing. The newer models have straight venturis as the industry standard but the smaller one still has design issues(imho).
Just swapped a curve 5 for Deltec 1000i, I must admit the deltec has worse build quality than the bubble magus. My first impression is that the delta is a piece of junk, it's just a Jacod pump with a venturi and a plastic tube on top. I have no idea where the value is in the deltec.
Deltec is overpriced nonsense in my opinion. Mine went through 2 pumps in under a year. Plastics used are shocking. Much happier with my Reef Octopus 150s
The pumps are China made , same with the skimmer. The company might be German but the products are mostly made in China. And made in China still represents sub par quality and little quality control
