- A playthrough of Hudson Soft's 1992 puzzle-action game for the TurboGrafx-16, Bomberman '93.
Played through the "normal" story mode.
In the days of the 16-bit wars, Hudson had not one, but two different Bomberman series being released in consoles. Of course the SNES has the Super Bomberman series, while the TurboGrafx-16 (which was designed by Hudson themselves) got it's own unique line. It is the TG16 games where you can see many of the ideas used later on the SNES games rolled out for the first time.
Bomberman '93 was the second of the traditional Bomberman games on the Turbo, and it was utterly fantastic. It introduced animals, the anime-styled graphics that were used from Super Bomberman 3 forward, along with numerous little tweaks in level layouts and obstacles.
It's a fantastic title that quite suitably became the foundation for Bomberman '94, and it was one of the system's best cart-based games ever released in the US!

I love watching the player become more pro and daring with each upgrade.
The music in Bomberman 93 is so good, if only Mega Bomberman had this kind of music...
CarozQH Yeah, Mega Bomberman was a pretty rough port :( Oh well, it made the Turbo look awesome
It was just not as good as you would expect from Westone, the makers of Wonderboy. I kind of like the music in Mega Bomberman, but it's not nearly as good as the music in the Turbografx games.
CarozQH CarozQH Oh yeah, I'm not trying to totally bash it. It's a lazy conversion that leaves out a load of graphic effects, but the gameplay is effectively identical. The FM didn't sound bad either, but some songs definitely came through porting process better than others. If nothing else, it deserves props for being the only NA release of a fantastic game.
Bomberman '94.
Mega Bomberman on the TG16, With better music and graphics.
You're welcome.
@@DavidGaming204 I wish Factor 5 had ported '94 instead. I know originally Mega Bomberman was gonna be an original game developed by Factor 5 originally, but if they ported '94, it could have easily held its own against the PC Engine original. Just look at their work with Turrican on the Amiga, their port of Bonk to the Amiga, and Mega Turrican on Genesis.
TG16: an underrated system.
So, so true.
Disagree, it's actually slightly overrated BUT also still underknown, two different things ;)
No, it's not overrated, it holds it's own in it's software, and how fun those games are. This one is a shining example of a game that is extremely fun.
A very niche library. Satisfying, holds its own to the Genesis very well, but still very niche sadly. Konami should just release a PC Engine collection for Switch already.
@@Bloodreign1 Depends what genres you like most. For someone like myself the lack of quality/quantity of beat em ups on the platform really bring it down overall.
Then you compare it to the Genesis directly which games were aimed at the Western market alot of the time. The PC Engine obviously was more aimed at the Japanese market. So alot of the themes and mature enjoyed I enjoyed in Genesis games aren't there for the PC Engine.
Bomberman '93 was the base for several changes made to later Bomberman games. It came out about the same time as Super Bomberman, but '93 is by far the better of the two games!
You think so too? Why is that?
Watch out, Super & '93, Saturn Bomberman will always forever be king of 2D Bomberman!
This was my first Bomberman game. I played it on Wii because no one knows what TurboGrafx is!
@@CosmicSponge2004 Depends on your age, some of us older gamers know well of the TG-16, having played one multiple times when I had the chance.
@@ruzkbthenon-sider2834 no
One of first TG16 games i played, loved Dyna Blaster on Amiga, and really liked this version too.
Blossom planet theme is Fantastic
Basically what White Bomber is saying there is "you wanna be always my friend, if you're my enemy I'll bomb you forever and ever ^^" ... that's what I get from the bosses afterscenes
I love Bomberman's music it's very good xd
The second Bomberman game on the PCE, and about as good as 94.....but not quite. One of my favorites though alongside 94, all 5 SNES/SFC Bomberman games, and Saturn Bomberman. I have a soft spot for the Genesis one too, even if it's a watered down port of Bomberman 94.
It s amazing AND a Bomberman theme song ITS a magnífic job

13:09 Didn't know the TG-16/PCE could handle this.
I meant the "BOMBAHMEN!" scream.
@@lucianothewindowsfan It could easily enough.
@@lucianothewindowsfan that’s impressive fir an 8 bit console with 16 bit graphics
Probably the best in the series (maybe next to the PC version called Dyna Blaster). Keeps it simple, but has enough fun overpowered powerups to make it interesting.
Dyna Blaster is just port of first Bomberman game from Turbografx-16. It was called Dyna Blaster in Europe on multiple platforms, since they couldn't use original name here.
Same way Contra was released as Probotector with robots instead of humans and TMNT was named TMHT, since they replaced Ninja with Hero, because ninja word was censored.
Probably just one country (maybe UK?) did this, but games got single PAL port with multiple languages on cartridge, so it was released in all European countries like that.
I remember that I was confused with TMNT, since in my country TV aired US version of TMNT while toys etc. in stores had often TMHT brand.
How is it the best it's freaking hard! there's only one power up per stage and if you die you will have a hard time with the unreasonable time limit and large numbers of enemies and that only if you don't get the freaking remote bomb (heart with bomb)
0:38 Love it!!
This game is in the Wii U eShop as a Virtual Console
I much prefer '94 but this was a good start
Toxic
The music of the first world sounds like bomberman 3 credit snes
Wasn't Panic Bomber the last game where Black Bomberman was a villain?
I think it was Super Bomberman
@@TheChompChamp7650 he isn't lol
Been a real Bomberman bomb-anza lately.
Mackerel Phones Haha yeah, I had quite a few recordings on the hard drive. Figured it was time to upload some :)
Amazing
27:23 Death
God I remembered playing this via the Wii Virtual Console
It's is always fun play a good Bomberman game.
Actually I have a existencial question about why the little fella of one eye earn other eye when the flame catch him.
Bug? The guy that drawn the sprites forget it? The other eye was hidden?
Mmm...
Also you play a lot with fire on this gameplay, lol.
PunishSonicSpeed Some guys just like watching the world burn.
PunishSonicSpeed Hmm maybe that's something for a budding transcendentalist to figure out. Pragmatism and all that. But like moms have always said, It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
Then they'll just be greeted with "Arrrr!" for the rest of their lives lol
I hated the power up inconsistencies basically you get one power up per stage and an unreasonable time limit with an absurd amount of enemies i wish they give us 3-4 power up’s because the bosses are difficult
13:10 BOMBAHMOON!!!!
I can’t wait to touch this
Nobody is gonna talk about the fact that there were pac-man enemies in the first area?
25:41 So this is where Super Bomberman 4 Stage 2 music comes from
0:38 Kill Bill Ironside Song reference
Hell yea!!
This game a lot of years before Kill Bill though.
@@sulejmaniapologist Hello, remember Back to the Future Part II? The one with tig ol' biddies and bad alternate time lines? Lmao
I see that the scenarios flash from time to time Does That mean something?
l love this game
1:35:45 This can be reused in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and Champions
It has better music than Bomberman 94, I'll give it that much. To be fair, the TG series' music is good all around, but yeah - 93 > 94 > the first one, IMHO. Not to discredit all 5 SNES games in this area, but TG just got it goin' on for beats that slap!
Bomberman 94 is just better at everyrhing else that isn't the music, compares to 93. Seriously, 93 is let down by how most stages look too same-y, after awhile. Also, I really HATE how you can only get one powerup (useful or not) per stage - THAT'S just DUMB to me, unfortuantely.
All five of the SNES games and Bomberman 94? They don't have this powerup problem. They know better than to be stingy with useful stuff needed to beat these games, eventually, honestly. That alone is enough to make those titles superior over this one, for me personally.
The gameplay here is still decent, but the lack of more than one powerup in stages that aren't boss battles is annoying to put up with after too long (IMHO).
Considering Bomberman 1 and 2 on NES at the time had one powerup per stage, though no bosses, it wasn't surprising. Even the first Bomberman on the PC Engine had 1 powerup per stage.
1:35:45 same as Super Bomberman 3 because they altered the Super Bomberman Stage Musics
This is the one where Black is a villain right?
Yes. Black Bomberman was the main antagonist until Super Bomberman for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
TG16 Classic mini when? :(
March of next year.
@@NovaFeedback1979 And this is one of the games included. Bomberman 94 as well.
That noise of him walking is annoying. Glad it was removed in subsequent ones.
0:09 Black Bomberman (In DK's Voice) OKAY👍
Quien diría que bomber negro seria el villano.
Lo era hasta que salió el Super Bomberman
1:35:05 sounds so creepy
Should I choose this or 94 on Wii U?
I prefer 94, but they're both good.
@@NintendoComplete We were going to play Bomberman 94 but I can't understand the menu screen after battle mode because of the Japanese txt :'(
Hopefully you got both, because both are outstanding games.
I'm probably late to the party but definitely play 93 first. It's the basic Bomberman formula done really well, while 94 is weird and gimmicky, obviously since it tried to be different.
@@19Szabolcs91 Weird and gimmicky as it is, it's not as bullshitty as this one
1:00:05 Aqua Man's Stage
Which one you prefer between this one and '94?
Yohko M. 94, no contest for me. I actually like 94 better than any of them on the SNES. Which one do you prefer?
"I actually like 94 better than any of them on the SNES"
Ha? Noted ^^
Personally I never played any Bomberman D: but I always wanted the Saturn one! But since I also have a PC Engine I may think about getting one of its Bomberman games.
Yohko M. Any of them on the Turbo are great games. And the Saturn one I think is the best Bomberman they've made, it's so damn good!
Yohko M. If you have a PC Engine, you should look into a TurboEverdrive. I have one for my pc engine, and with it I can play all of the US games in English, and it lets me play some of those insanely pricey ones without melting the wallet. Which model do you have? I've got the original white one with the matching cd deck in the briefcase dock, I love it!
I have a blue Coregrafx with the (non matching) Super CD Rom (since it's orange :/ lol). I see what model you have, I think it's the best looking but I hear that it's quite fragile, I hope yours is working well. btw your videos are all from real hardwares?!
And the turboeverdrive could be a nice alternative, how much does it cost?
Huh, a large portion of this games soundtrack was reused and remixed in Super Bomberman 3. That's weird and kinda lazy on hudson soft's end
Makes it easier to port the music over, maybe write a new composition or two courtesy of the extremely talented Jun Chikuma.
Other ones used at Super Bomberman 4
Why Black Bomberman is evil?
Probably the way he was programmed, or a defect in his programming that was later corrected, no one knows for sure.
He is a stolen bomberman, the intro shows what happened
💣💥
Wii Owners be like:
Realmente é seu caso o mesmo é o mais ➕ ➕ ➕ ➕ ➕ ➕
Kurobon wtf
1:23:21 🥰
8:16 Almost screwed yourself over there xD . How did you god mode like that?
StygianTraveler141 I think that I must've had the power up that let me walk through bombs that had already been set
That, and since i had the detonator power up, they didn't explode until I hit the button
So the walk-through-bombs power-up is default or did you pick it up earlier?
StygianTraveler141 It has to be picked up
Oh okay. Thanks :)
