I live in SoCal and we had half acre of land and the house came with no landscaping, it cost us 110K for a pool, spa, built-in bbq, 2 patio covers, a low wall spanning the width, ie 100 feet, another 50 ft of walls around the courtyard, (all stuccoed, 14 queen palm trees, 6 pigmy palms,8 ficus trees, lots of flagstones in the backyard and around the pool and spa. Great video!! As someone who owns rentals and have used countless contractors, you speak facts about the pure cost of materials and labour. This isn't a reality TV show where the builds are unrealistic, this is reality and NO ONE works for less than $20/hr on any renovation crew, unless you DIY. And something of this magnitude, let the Pro's take over, cheaper in the long run in my opinion. Loved your transparency, thanks for posting.

Depends on where you live along with supply and demand. Where I'm at contractors can basically name a price and if the client doesn't take it the price goes up once they've gone through other contractors and arrived back at their original choice. Tigren always says in California. California is one of the largest states. Tigren works in Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley is the highest cost of living in the entire United States. The cost of living in the Sacramento California area is 75% less expensive than Silicon Valley California.
Labor in Salinas or Lincoln or Modesto California is a lot lot cheaper than in Silicon Valley California.
So it isn't simply California. It's specifically Silicon Valley California : Menlo Park, Saratoga, Los Altos, Redwood City, San Jose, Mountainview all of Silicon Valley homes start at $1 million, most cost more than a million. You have to earn $300,000 a year to buy a home here.

Everyone sees the overall cost, but no one sees how much it costs in labor and materials. Materials are insanely expensive and that’s just what it is. If you want the expensive fancy materials… you pay higher prices. What about labor? Tigran pays his employees really good money so they do great quality of work. You want stuff put together and looking sharp… you pay higher prices. If you really want to save money, you pay more for better materials and more importantly better labor and people doing the work. Otherwise, pay less and you’ll be paying more later when you have to re-do the shit show that you paid for.

😂 how do folks not realize people sometimes want what they want in and around their home, no matter the cost? It’s not always about ROI, it’s your home. In Cali homes are absurdly expensive. A family member bought a 1300 sq ft tear down for 800k almost 20 years ago, after dumping almost the equivalent of purchase price into renovations inside and out (including lifting the whole house and building out the basement into a small apt of 1150 sq ft,) over last 15-16 years it appraised at almost 4.7m today.

So listen everyone. TG is running a lottery system, in effect. I think he does great work. But the success requires you to consider how his web business ties into everything. For the most part, yeah, I'd say he is legimate. But you need to think that almost all of his videos entice you to join his Goat Gang. It is expensive. And then you'd have to pay more for more insights, courses, etc. That, I think is really what boost his bottom line. I dobut that the Lambo he purchased was from the landscaping directly, but indirectly. The lottery that he puts out is that a lucky winner will win some expensive piece of equipment, but ONLY if you join his Goat Gang. That money fuels a signficant amount to hold more lotteries and profits. It is what it is. Just thought that you all should be aware.

My pool in Sacramento was $100K and it’s just a simple rectangular pool. No waterfalls, no slides, no boulders, just a pool. My fence fell down during the 2021 storms and it turned out we had to do a land survey, hired engineers due to needing a retaining wall, all in all, the retaining wall, not including the fence, cost $70K, and this was the lowest bid we got from 4 different companies. So yes, labor in CA is very expensive.

Honestly, those guys built the hell out of that deck and the pool looks great. I kinda would rather have a quality job done than sloppy work that I have to see every time I go to the backyard. Would have preferred real grass though.

In certain semi to exclusive communities in California that is perfectly reasonable. The contractor didn’t make bank, and the client didn’t get taken. Everyone must be insured, everyone is an employee - no day laborers. You pass through gates at 7:30 am and leave by 4:00, and only X number of vehicles on-site per day. Need a concrete truck? Better request permission at least 3 days in advance. Four axle crane? Nope. You have to use a three axle to lower a spider crane (if even possible) to move trees and boulders, and you’ll need traffic control, plus 72 hour neighbor notification. If neighbor objects for any reason, full stop, until resolved.
Out after 4:00? $500 fine per vehicle, it’s on camera you get a bill. Don’t pay, don’t get in the gate next week. Four trucks out the gate late per day is $2,000 a day,or $10,000 a week. Work on the weekend is forbidden. Work the day before and after certain holidays forbidden. You and your crew are not getting in.
Sand in a sandbag when it should be gravel for permeability, or vice-versa? You better have it right ore water district will fine you. Plans, you better have them. Signed. Changes, better be approved. God save you if the California Coastal commission is involved. Can take 12-18 months to get through. And changes with them? Your clients may have grandchildren before it’s approved.
Should you throw caution to the wind to save a buck? Well, get shut down, and there goes your reputation.
Have had Texas clients move to California and tell me they could do the job for less than half there. Well, you can go back, or have a pool on a cliff over looking the Pacific built on 30 caissons and double curtain rebar the size of your femur with a subterranean equipment room the size of an apartment. That’s a million dollar plus, just for the pool.
That’s California. Contractors aren’t making bank, but wages. The dollars might be higher, but the costs are too.

I’m happy to say I can do all this myself from the coping to retaining wall, to pavers and excavation, decking and trees, tile. All except the pool and stairs those one person can’t do alone. Those stairs came out beautiful tho well formed also it’s hell when those type are formed wrong.
Skills I’ve learned in a few years now I’m one of the best for everything even lighting and welding, If I ever do my own house this size I’d be able so save so much doing everything alone.
Just have supplies handed to me.
Met a guy the other day retired firefighter did his own home from wall to pillars and fence himself.
So rewarding when you do it yourself
    And not pay 500k
    Maybe 200k max
