I 100% agree with you, however if you upscale it to 4k sadly there's some areas where you can catch a few strings I want to VFX those strings out in the future, the punching noises and sword fight sounds are to its own perfection, I can't mess with that, each of those fight scenes are like badass love stories told so ya, this movie is stand alone the sequel was unnecessary.

I love the attention to detail. The Wudang move that li mu bai does at 3:48 instantly floors Jade fox. Jen, who had been studying the Wudang manual, pulls the same move at 4:42 and li mu bai knew the counter was to simply put your sword tip up so the attacker would be in danger of getting stabbed in the arm. Jen recoils, indicating she knew the move and its counter. That's two things Jade Fox doesn't know. If Jade fox is the master and jen the pupil, why is this happening? Li mu bai immediately started asking Jen who her master is since Wudang fighters didn't train women and Jade fox is clearly below her in skill.

@@Grimisnowhere Lol hardly. I just watch a lot of these wuxia films. I only noticed this move because it is actually recycled and is a major plot point in a later movie called "Reign of Assassins" which also stars Michelle Yeoh. The story is not as good as cthd but it's a much simpler movie about assassins fighting each other using different styles.
Spoiler alert: This move was unstoppable because of a bendy sword so to counter it you have to go for the arm instead of blocking the strike.

This is one of my favorite martial arts scenes. Policeman Tsai is formidable and actually lands a few hits, but Jade Fox is just downright scary and clearly the superior fighter. May and Bo are sideshows.
But then Li Mu Bai appears and gives the audience a lesson in what Wudan warrior monk training is all about - stillness (as he tries to explain to Jen later). Mu Bai is still angry about Jade Fox murdering his master, and expresses it, but when the fighting starts, a stillness takes over both his demeanor and movements. Mu Bai's inner stillness contrasts with Jade Fox's inner anger and aggressive fighting. But she's got nothing he can't counter, and no answer to any of his attacks. Mu Bai is on a different level, always one step ahead, and calmly and efficiently dismantles her. Great choreography, screenwriting, and acting to show the stillness of his soul, which is the ultimate objective of monk training.

One thing I love about this scene perhaps more than anything else in the movie is it's a short story in motion. Jade has become quite the martial artist she clearly is a match for almost anyone. We see there is a canyon of difference between her abilties and the other 3, but when Li enters we see an ocean of difference between him and Jade. Although this is a fantasy/historical movie that is told like it's a myth it is brilliant because it's an amazing piece of art. But like real martial artists Li has long ago abandoned flash for substance, simple precise movements that get the job done. While Jade is still confusing power and flashy moves with speed and precision. Li's movements are precise but mostly carried out by muscle memory that has kicked in over years of training. I can tell you that if you practise martial arts my chosen one was kickboxing, this does, in fact, happen over time you stop thinking about what you are doing and your body begins to act for you. Muscle memory kicks in and blocks happen almost automatically and faster than you'd think possible with practice and dedication. However Jade is a typically bad martial artist in many ways as I said confusing power and flash with precision and speed. However, she doesn't take responsibility for her actions, in martial arts/fighting that is so important you have to both control your temper to get better and listen to instructions and admit when you were wrong and didn't learn something the correct way.
This is seen in her character brilliantly so clearly in this scene when she talks about Li's master. She says he slept with her but wouldn't teach her. We're never given context which is brilliant in my opinion. She could've been in love with him, she could've been as she said little more than a prostitute to him, or she could've slept with him believing if she did that he would teach her but he in fact might not have said that. So many theory's each one as plausible as the last just because Li is such a good person doesn't mean his master was all good. However, a likely scenario is that the former master saw she had some skill. So while she had some training in martial arts, possibly Li's master did teach her some things, but saw her skill level or saw something in her he didn't like and refused to teach her more formally or deepen knowledge. As a result, she killed him and stole the texts for herself, but as we can see she didn't learn beyond the basics because, unlike a true martial artist, she didn't listen. You can actually see this even today in MMA where martial artists have a great run but they're so high on themselves, they do not listen or start slacking off more concerned with their social media account than their humble beginnings and they get knocked out or submitted or seriously hurt. Jade never took responsibility for her own actions. Again illustrated here by telling Li his master had no respect for women he deserved to die by a woman's hand. Yet she didn't kill him by bettering him she poisoned him like a coward. She also killed the policeman's wife who was only doing her job and she tried to kill him and his daughter, she treated them with disdain simply for wanting their loved one's death avenged. Yet she is outraged they would dare try to make her answer for that crime and even gleefully tries to kill them. That's not a blow for feminism like how she tries to put it. Her character and martial arts ability are on point here as it illustrates that she is a hypocrite full of jealousy, lies, self-righteousness and hate. While Li has listened and learned and is still doing so even with Jade's apprentice he sees a brilliant raw talent in her he wants to help shape and mould, Jade only wants to shape it and point at her enemies. Yet she is even jealous of the one girl she claims to love like a daughter in the end. That is her character and that is why she could never stand toe to toe with Li, Jen, Yu Shu Lien because she refuses to look inward to improve herself outwardly, she's entitled she wants the shortcut, not the journey and what hurts most in the end, is Jen had that hard raw unteachable talent.
