    Loving the great content Matt. Found you via a Head for Points post. +1 sub and looking forward to your next great video ! Best wishes from down here near NCE where's no APD or penguins to be found 😅

      NCE is nice - sorry, lovely! Did a day trip there during the women's world cup and very much enjoyed it, even without penguins!

    I’ve been doing this for years now… however BA having a good business class sale NYC March 998 outbound 700 nyc to London not bad really..

      Thanks - still feels like a lot of money but it does save the positioning hassle... I'm sure you know but it you go ex-LON for 5 days or more you can turn it into a holiday and get double tier points... That would make that much more appealing!

    Another great informative video perhaps another video as a side to this one is BA Holidays and Sales as that is where I got my week in Las Vegas inc hotel (Luxor) for 1100 euros from Dublin via usual stops.(Lhr, Jfk and Lax). now wait for schedule changes by mainly AA some of BA as well.

      Thanks - The BA holiday angle is an interesting one for sure - will give it some thought. When is your trip planned for? Optimistic?

      You've got to hope the end of October is safe enough! My tier point run is the end of July but my breath is not held! Hope is not a strategy, as a former boss of mine used to say, but let's hope we can travel by the Summer.

    At 8:23 , What website is that which shows you all the prices and fees? The BA website doesn't seem to do that. Great video, Looking forward to Part 2.

      Fewer penguins in part 2 sadly... It's ITA Matrix which shows the fares and whatnot - covered in a bit of detail in my Tier Point run videos. Thanks for the kind words.

    I was initially thinking you were going to talk about how fare ex-EU are cheaper than the other way round (e.g. LHR to LAX is almost always cheaper than LAX to LHR return). Pre-pandemic I was getting LHR to LAX for £249 on United in Basic Economy. Not bad considering I checked two bags in free and had access to lounges, Economy+ seating and priority security as a United Premier Gold. As for APD I think it’s a wonderful idea since it forces airlines to be more disciplined in how they price their fares since they’ll always have to pay that charge for us. Case in point that LAX flight had a £20 base fare IIRC

    • @MattsPlanet
      @MattsPlanet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that - I know redemptions ex the US are much pricier because the surcharges added are higher - no surprise it is the same on cash bookings. If its my money I'm spending, then its hard to justify a premium ticket flying from the UK to the US East Coast with status as its a relatively short flight and if your status gets you a seat with extra legroom its not an unpleasant experience. Flying overnight back is a different story!

    Since devolution Northern Ireland has been a UK home nation - it is no longer legally a UK Provence (weird concept) and neither is it termed or referred to as such any more, cheers

    Dublin has no significant airport taxes and never will . most people in Belfast will travel down to Dublin for long haul flights

    Well presented again matt . One question I plan to go to the states and wonder what your views are on various airline passes on various American carriers. Are they worth it , if so who has the best value. Cheers matt stay well .

    • @MattsPlanet
      @MattsPlanet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Steve. That's really interesting - I wasn't aware that passes were still a "thing"! Had a quick google and saw something on SkyTeam / Delta, but couldn't immediately see pricing. My instinct is that airlines are smart so won't be giving flights away, and I usually back myself to find good deals and offers that should be more competitive than a packaged offering. On the other hand, if you're looking to travel a lot, then the convenience may be good and if its a time rather than flight based offer then obviously you can extract great value out of a package if you're flying every day. I will take a deeper look though - do you have your eye on a specific offer?

      @@MattsPlanetGood morning matt. I just wondered if the likes of United , Delta & Jet Blue , Southwest ect did various let's say six trip coupons. Iam aware there are many budget airlines in north america . I just wondered if any of your other followers or yourself have had this experience in flying this way when in the states . If these air passes do exist would it be cheaper to buy them in the uk or buy in the states. How far can you go , stay , rules ect because iam sure their would be many matt . A bit of an interesting subject maybe on this matt . Thanks so much for your time, and take it easy stay well . From a sofa wishing it was an airport lounge North Herts .

    Little note that the UK Government refuses to devolve APD to the Welsh Government citing unfair advantages for Cardiff Airport compared to the nearby Bristol Airport. Bastards.
