The small convenience store now has a post office desk within it - The overgrown and disused railway line down the back of Long Row was a spur line that branched around the back of the former colliery, allowing coal to be hauled originally away through Wakefield and off to Crossleys Mills in Halifax. With the advent of the NCB, coal was taken from this branch, onto the Wakefield/Pontefract line and off towards Ferrybridge Power Station. The Trains used to basically shuttle back and forth, and were referred to as the MGR or Merry-go-Round service
