Jackie Charlton never quite gets the recognition he fully deserves, mainly because of living in the formidable shadow of his brother Bobby,....but he was a great player in his own right
I think you will find Jack Charlton is one of the most respected figures in football. He did get recognition from anyone who knows anything about the game
If the final game of their 71/72 season against the Wolves is an to go by, you can understand why. Charlton was a key figure in trying to persuade opposing players to throw matches, as they walked up the the tunnel . Just ask ex Wolves player Bernard Shaw
@@rorystone3182 I don't know what the price was but Busby's book 'Soccer at the Top' mentions that he wanted him. United desperately needed a good stopper and Busby saw Jackie as the perfect replacement for Bill Foulkes.
nothing hard about vinnie Jones I remember him saying that he went through steve mcmahon of Liverpool and said he was left squirming on the ground if you look at the footage mcmahon is up before you can blink haha. I think it was the cup final. all spout.
When Revie left for the England job big Jack should have been the first man the Leeds board should have approached to take over. He had already proved he could manage at Middleborough and was respected by all the players. But because of an incident in the early 1960's on the team bus involving some of the directors they still held a grudge against him. The incident? when the team turned up to board the bus the directors and their wife's had taken all the front seats on the bus because they didn't fancy the drive to the game. Big Jack said to Revie if they don't get off this bus then I'm not playing. Harry Reynolds (the then chairman) made the other directors get off and one of those directors was Manny Cussins who was the chairman when Revie left and the man that wanted Clough.
@gerard henry aye.I 'm here in Dunlin watching a 2 long hour documentary on him now about his time as Irish manager as I write this. The whole country is saddened here. His love of the Irish was paralleled by our love of him. The world has lost a great football man. Rest easy big Jack
Yes, Jack may have given the England side what he gave to Leeds and ultimately Rep. Ireland. Legend and Gent, as all those era Leeds players were.....not dirty, just HARD!
No Ron Harris, Nobby Stiles, Peter Storey or Tommy Smith and you missed out the hardest of them all..... Dave Mackay when he played for Spurs. On one occasion some poor sod caught his legs tangled with Mackay who carried on playing dragging him around the pitch! Big Jack R.I.P.
R.I.P. to Jack, a great man and a football legend.
I get tears in my eyes thinking of big Jack no longer being with us. Great man...
That irish team of the early 90s was as hard as Nails
Graham Gallagher easy 2 hammer 😛
All led by An Englishman who was hard as nails
Great to hear Brian Clough's positive remarks about Jack. Two larger than life characters that we will, sadly, never encounter again.
I wish there was more Jack Charltons in the world taday.
Good old Ashington Lad and the best part of this My Grandad was very good friends with Jack Charlton. The story’s he used tell me. Wow
What?
Never heard Clough praise Revie before. Must have mellowed!
Or pissed, lol
Great praise from
Cloughie
Rest in Legend❤️
Charlton & Clough the best managers England never had...
@@mellowrecords7269 How's Jack a traitor?
For what he said On The Waterfront that time.

Met Jack and he is such a gentleman. On the pitch maybe not. He is a legend.
Same applied to Norman Hunter, my friend met him in 1995 and he was nothing short of a gentleman, very humble and a true legend.

Matt Busby said that he tried to sign Jack from Leeds but Revie wouldn't consider selling.

I heard that Leeds were asking £33,000 for him but Busby said he wouldn't be held to ransom.

The greatest centre half of Leeds United RIP

"I hit him on the bloody heel" 😂😂 Good Ol Jack.
Great player, much more skilled than given credit for.

RIP Wor Jackie !
RIP Big Jack
yes, most don't know he was footballer of the year in 1967
He was also the first defender to win player of the year.
Jack was a hard player but not a dirty one. He never kicked an opponent off the ball.
Well good for him. Because if players kick each other off the ball there's not much point in having a ball is there?
At 1:19 into the video he two foot tackled an opponent 😂 but that was in the day when football players weren't bitches diving
RIP big Jack All Leeds aren't we 🦚🇮🇨
