great video! Yeah the mosquitoes in the northern and eastern ends of the GYE can be a pain in the ass.

Thanks man! Yeah, it surprised me just HOW bad it really was. I've backpacked the greater west my whole life and nothing has been even slightly comparable to this experience. It is a perfect ecosystem for them though. Still absolutely love the beartooths!

Thank you my friend. Only gets better from here. Got 3 more 2023 videos coming soon that I think are my best work yet. Appreciate your feedback.

Did this hike July 10th, but starting from Upsidedown Trailhead. Amazing place. Sun hoodie and head net are mandatory for sure. Will do again, hopefully as part of a through hike.

I completely agree. You and me both too. I will absolutely get back there. Tons of hiking in the Beartooths!

Nice touch with the mosquitos buzzing in the mic of the camera. Gave me that annoyed feeling like I was there with you. I think a lot of it has to do with the time of year - July is going to be bad no matter which range you are in. I’ve had pretty good luck with the lemon eucalyptus repellent (can’t stand the smell of Deet) but still use my head net - especially in my hammock. This video reminded me that I need to invest in a full net for my hammock or a hammock with it built in.

Yeah, July is almost always the worst month for skeeters. Even still though, it’s more just how notoriously bad they are in the area than time of the year. For here specifically. I backpack at least twice in July every year and while they’re always out, I’ve never been so overly annoyed by them lol. Truly relentless. The mic tells it all haha. I did 70 miles in the sawtooths the next week, skeeters were like 1% of the Beartooths lol. I too also use a lemon eucalyptus based spray and man did we go through it on this trip! Haha. Get the net!

Hiking this is 3 weeks. Do you think the mosquitoes will still be terrible in early September?

As Colin suggests "Bring a bug net" lol. Jokes aside, you're going to be in a much better position. If it was a 10 when I went, I'm guessing you're at a 4-5 early Sept. I'd still bring a head net just in case. Weighs nothing. Costs $5-10. You going to be fishing?

@tweedytreks got one ready in the pack. Awesome video and I was happy this popped across my feed. I really couldn't find too many videos on this trail. Thanks!

@@Horty44 yeah - there's very little information out there so I get it! Glad you enjoyed. You're going to absolutely love this place. World class area. If you fish you love it even more. Cheers.
