I Built The World's First LEVITATING Aquarium!

  • In this video I create a levitating aquarium with real animals.
    Through the use of magnetic levitation I make a Sea-Monkey tank that can float. I show the growth of the brine shrimp after one month and use a microscope to show how they look fully grown.

    I love that footage of the new born baby next to the full grown female. It really illustrates how much those little critters grow.
    I was curious to see if the magnetic pull would affect their viability. Didn’t seem to.

    I love the idea of using sea monkeys for tiny aesthetic tanks like this. Too many people on social media will add betas or goldfish to tiny setups like this when they really need a lot more space. Sea monkeys are perfect.

    I agree with retiring the levitating aquarium. If you consider an interesting project like this in the future that requires constant power, consider getting an UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). I was really excited to see the solutions you came up with for air and heat. :D

      Yeah using something like that definitely would’ve been wise 😅 thankfully everything still worked out. I’d love to try this project again in the future with bigger magnets and a larger aquarium so I’ll definitely use a UPS for that 👌 thanks for the tip Robyn

    I was so happy to see you transferred them into a regular tank. I would have been a bundle of nerves the whole time they were in that levitating tank because power cuts here are common.

      Luckily they’re quite infrequent here in NZ, but it still had me really nervous the whole time 🫣 I would’ve felt so guilty too. Can you imagine the video update - “hey guys, the power cut out and they all died. Don’t forget to like and subscribe!” 🤣

An option for protecting them from a power outage can be a mini UPS. Should be able to protect them for a while on a backup battery. • @pico-cosmos

    There's a reason some eggs "sneak" into the first satchet - it's all eggs, despite what the label says. The second packet isn't eggs at all, but colourant to make them more visible. That's why you wait 24 hours, so they CAN hatch.

    The aquarium weight still appears on the scale because of Newton's third law of motion. Because energy in the form of electromagnetism causes the aquarium to float upward, there is an equal downward force acting on the magnet base. This appears as the combined weight on the scale despite the aquarium never actually touching the scale itself.

      Oh that’s really interesting! So I assume the truck’s weight increases with birds too?

    • @avionpiscean33
      @avionpiscean33 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pico-cosmos So the test was to see if the weight would change if the birds inside were made to fly. They wanted to see if it made the truck lighter versus when the birds inside were at rest. They tested the weight of the truck with and without the birds, and then with them flying. There was no change between the birds resting in the truck, and them flying while inside. It's a really fascinating experiment, and I recommend checking out more info on the subject.

    There's a third thing I'd argue Sea Monkeys are known for in addition to their tolerance of dirty, small-sized water, is that they can survive as eggs fully dehydrated. That was how the KKK guy came up with it, because they could be transported dry in packets and have kids do the work, cutting down on a lot of logistics that would be otherwise involved with other live animals. I think their ability to survive as eggs in absolute desolate dryness is phenomenal

    that's pretty cool.
    question, the adults in this looked very mixed colored of green and red, is that red from the iron in sand?

    • @pico-cosmos
      @pico-cosmos  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don’t think so, for some reason the females often turn a rusty orange colour, but the males stay colourless 🤷‍♂️ no clue why

      @@pico-cosmos thank you, that's very interesting :)
      in most of your videos the entire colony looks very single colored to the algae surrounding them.
      I personally liked the mixed color vibrancy so it made me wonder

    I'd be so tempted to make a lid that looks like an aliens spaceship, with a line attached to a miniature cow so it'll look like they're being abducted by aliens 🛸 🐄 🦐.

    Did your sea monkeys get stuck in the plants? When we have tried adding fake plants to our sea monkey aquarium, they seemed to get stuck in the little crevices.

      Yeah they occasionally do - especially the males because they like to latch onto them 😅
