    Just a tip----I purchased this kit and I really lilke it. Yes, the factory snare stand is short for taller players. I purchased a tall snare stand from Amazon. However, I had to mix and match the two stands, because the base of the taller stand is too large to get in position. So, I kept the factory base and the top half of the tall stand and put them together. No issues and for my use it works well.

    Awesome review! I recently bought this kit. And this is my first electronic drum, I have been playing on acoustic set. Loving this kit, but I haven't explored it much. I like that you can upload kits on the module, and the bass is double pedal friendly.

    I am getting ready to buy an e-Drum kit (once and for all) and this time around I want to be sure I invest in the best option available for the price. Your reviews are clearly the most concise, impartial and insightful. NAMM 2025 is just around the corner so pretty sure more new products will be in the pipeline to evaluate. Thank you and keep those great reviews coming!

    I just ordered this kit yesterday and it's supposed to be here today. From what I've heard out of it, it sounds better than any other set I've heard.
    According to the salesman, you also get a sweet throne with it. Maybe not at the time of this review, but apparently they add a throne now.

    I have their entry level dm 210 kit and i am pretty happy with it, the whole thing is big, solid and sturdy, its for sure more stable then other cheap entry level things. Everything has 2 zones as well as mutes. The module is basic but well rounded, i dont miss anything so far.

    Thanks Justin I made a comment about a month or so ago about Reviewing this kit I just got it to Replace the Extremly Boring Alesis Crimson Se. So as an Upgrade I definitely Recomend this Kit if your Trying to break free from the Alesis line up the Drum Set looks and feels great ! I will say I'm not a big fan of all the Ride Cymbal sounds on this Module but everything else is Legit ! So as Someone Who Has this Kit ill give it an 8/10 for the Price Point!

      Good to hear your positive opinion. I just ordered this kit and should be here today. The reason I bought this kit is, in my honest opinion, it sounded more like an acoustic kit. To me, it really had that classic 70s, deep Bonham sound to it. Maybe it was just because the dude doing the demo just knows what he's doing, but when I heard him play it, I was sold!

    Curious about that hi hat - seeing as on the module UI it shows the exact state/velocity, does it output this in midi or is that also forcibly segmented into just 3 sections? If you just run vst sounds and you get the true 0-127 value out of it that would make it much more viable...

    Just wanted to mention what I think was a little mix up in the comparable kits section near the end of the video. You mention the Roland TD-07 KVX's single crash cymbal and the cost of upgrading to a second crash. Just wanted to note that the 07-KVX kit comes with Roland's CY-13R three-zone ride cymbal but because the TD-07 module doesn't have a dedicated ride bell port it uses the plug that you would need for a second crash. So if you do want to upgrade to a second crash on the TD-07 KVX you also have choose between that or the bell zone on your ride (presumably this is why Roland didn't ship a second crash in the kit). Now the TD-17 KVX has almost all the same equipment except it does have the second crash because the TD-17 module can support it.

    Great review, Justin, very informative. I'm not sure, though, why you consider the Roland TD-7 a better option regarding the available sounds of the module. The Roland model is actually a really small set, while the NUX DM8 has way better sounds than the Roland. I've spent a lot of time trying to make it sound decent and it still feels like a toy. The 17KVX is a different story but the DM8 sounds and feels way better than the TD7.

      Thats the thing if your going full midi, they say that responsiveness doesnt matter…so you probably want to worry more about sturdiness, pad size and loudness, number of pads, anf obviously you want the most powerful module you can get, which the alessis all seem to have midi out, while roland only offers great module action at higher price ranges.

    I don't care what the onboard sounds, effects, none of that sounds like. I'm going into SD3 exclusively. It took me a long time to take the plunge, but I did finally, and haven't ever went back. I did the firmware update on my td17 a while back, and fooled around with it a little after that, and .... no..... back to SD3 for me! So really what I'm looking for is a "shell" kit? A set of pads, and stick with the td17. You totally messed me up when you said "suprisingly you can send 14 audio tracks over usb" Are you for real? That is EPIC! But even as I'm writing this comment I'm already asking myself "so? That just means I can't change them later. I've got to premix, like the old days, instead of postmix." I guess I've finally gotten an understanding of the benefits of going in midi, and I'm having a hard time finding things audio tracks are more beneficial for than midi. You got anything Justin? I think I'm sounding a little snobby. I'm really not trying to, my question is genuine. I'm digging this kit, for the i/o, and for the pad sizes. I've got what's left of a td17kv, with a strike pro ride "bell went out a week after i got it lol". I toasted my kd10 also, so check it. I'm using the snare bar and mounting clamp, on a command 8" pad, on the vertical legs of the rack, as a bass drum! I put some egg crate foam, cut to fit, under the head, and went to basic settings, kept it kd10, upped the sensativity to 9, and threshold to 5, and set it to "loud 2" and it works flawlessly! I really dig the way it plays, feels, and triggers. No more double taps. Saves me hours of deleting hits off the grid lmao.

    Considering this kit. If the sound is the main issue, couldn't that just be solved by EZdrummer? Somehow, the competitors you mentioned like the Alesis the NUX is a lot cheaper. Here (in Thailand) it goes for 966 USD while the Alesis goes for 1370 USD. The Roland you mentioned, I believe isn't available here.

    • @ernstpeterlegrand
      @ernstpeterlegrand ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the reasons that I would like to go for this one is that the size is comparible with acoustic kits. Thus, it might be easier to swiitch between them. I saw your video where you suggest to widen your electronic kit. So, I thought this would be a good option. What do you think?

      Not this time. The parent company of NUX is Cherub Industries. From what I can tell, they are their own thing

      @@65Drums Yea, I was paying attention carefully and everything looks kind of far away from Alesis/medeli thing. Menu, screen, layout, is different. The hardware looks kind of decent, the audio interface is awesome, 14 tracks at once is something that I haven't seen even on Roland. Sadly it doesn't have Midi In Port to allow for a Slave module for expansion. It sounds really decent... interesting!
      It turns out that there is a lot of musical hardware like guitar accessories sold here at Chile under the name Cherub instruments
      Looks like another player did hit the eDrum market.
      Is it Russian by origin?

    A little off topic. Watching this led me to check the Millennium 850 ($579), which led to this surprising find. Roland sells the TD27KV-2 (Yes the one with the digital hi-hat/snare/ride) for $2499 in Germany. A $1000 bucks less than the US. I understand if Roland was made in Germany, its made in Japan. So the Roland US distributer charges US customers/dealers an extra $1000 ! Way to go Roland US.... N O T ! ☹

    Legend! I was waiting for a review for this kit. Would this kit be a better option than the Alesis crimson 2 se? I live in Australia and dm10kii pro is not sold here. I’ve heard that by tweaking the md8 module the sounds might improve. Thanks for your review 🙏🏻🙌🏼

      @@ianmcnamee1652 you can find the Nux dm8 and 7x in Queensland and get it shipped anywhere in Australia. I just haven’t done it because I’d like to try it out first. Can’t find it in Melbourne. Yes Roland’s are always good. Would need to save more money though. Thanks mate.

      I'm based here in Melbourne as well. Trying to figure out if this might be a decent swap from a Roland Td-1dmk. Curious about the 3 states of the hi hat and whether a VH-11 works with sending Vh-11 sends 0-127 value via midi (to the VST)

    • @Mrluchendo
      @Mrluchendo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PerryLoh hi mate. It’s hard to tell with out trying it out. For me it looks very good for the price. At that price range you normally don’t get two crashes and 3 zone ride. The module also gives you extra functions as reverb eq etc. the new td17kv2 and kvx2 Roland module also offers this. The only thing that makes me think about the Nux is the hi hat. The Nux dm8 would be comparable with the td17kvx2 in regards to pad sizes and functionalities. But Roland is Roland in my opinion. The difference between the 2 is about 1200 - 1300 au $

      @@Mrluchendo hey mate. Yeah I was initially quite keen to consider the nux dm8, even called up a store in QLD. But I think you're right, it's comparable to a TD-17kvx which seems to be only $800 more right now. With the Roland it'll be easier to sell or upgrade hihat. Module doesn't matter that much to me since i'd prefer running it thru a vst plug in anyways via midi. Worth saving up 👍

    Might I suggest - You mention "You also get a free Hi Hat stand [etc]" Um, it's not free. You're paying for it.
    On the converse, I think all of Roland's offerings require you to purchase throne, hi hat stand, kick drum pedal. That might easily add another $400-500 to the package.

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think we're talking about semantics. At this price, many drum sets do not come with a hi-hat stand. So this kit is an outlier because it does include the stand, I decided to call it free. But yes, you're buying a kit, so you're still paying for it. Just like free shipping isn't actually free.

    • @DrLumpyDMus
      @DrLumpyDMus 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@65Drums There's an important point to the label (the semantics).
      Imagine two kits from two manufacturers. Both sell for $1500. One of the kits requires an additional $300 worth of stands to simply be at the basic functional level as the other kit. I would be an irresponsible consumer if I were to try and compare the two kits at the $1500 price point. Buy the stands and pedals for the kits that don't include them. That's the amount I have to pay to complete the other kit. Use THAT total dollar amount as the price point to compare kits.
      I can still compare this kit vs that kit. But I don't want to lose site of the parameters of the experiment. I'm comparing 1500 dollars worth of product to 1800 dollars worth of product. Because as you suggest, "Just like free shipping..."
      Thanks for the review. You're doing all the legwork so we don't have to..🙂
