The manbun was not too worried about touching the jumper cable ends together when the other end was already connected to a battery. Good thing it worked out for him.

I thought the same thing. I'm no electrician, but it just didn't seem like a good idea to connect to a live battery, and then walk in the water with the other clamps dangling. He's lucky he didn't get fried. It seems like a better approach would have been to connect to the jet ski first then the car, start it up and disconnect from the car first, although at that point all clamps would have been charged.
Time to invest in two trickle chargers.
Why didn't they jump ski to ski?
The advice to run the jumper vehicles RPMs up during a jump is good advice. Wish more guys would listen to it.

No more than 1200 RPMs momentarily MIGHT help. Never nearly floor it and hold.
However with modern vehicles, the systems are designed to regulate the current to keep the output at a consistent level. Revving makes little difference these days.

It might be different for a jet ski, but I know for motorcycles you aren't supposed to boost the battery with a running car. Even though they're both 12v the car's battery is higher amperage and when running the alternator brings it up to 14v which is just too much juice for a motorcycle's electrical system.
First, a old, or bad battery will not damage a starter unless you try to over crank, with the key "OFF" the starter is isolated from battery power. Second, the car does "NOT" need to ref up to jump start the jet ski, in fact you are better off not having the car running .

I hear you! I had a problem with seizures as a kid. Four years ago they came back and I stopped driving.

The negative lead of the jumper cable is connected directly to the battery. On the car that has the juice, isn't it recommended to attach that lead to a ground point in the engine?
It doesn’t really matter.
Whichever is easier.

Or going to the ramp with a dead battery.

They're expensive but Antigravity batteries are the business, this will almost never happen with one.
