Yes, extra steps before you go to the Bahamas for a few months, but the accuracy and local knowledge added is really great! Thanks for bringing it down to earth for us to understand.

What kind of navionics coverage can you expect in the coastal NJ/NY area on the base chart on the initial download/upload? I’m not really too keen on paying annually. Maybe every other year. But initially would I expect pretty good coverage?
Susan, we certainly feel your pain, the good news here is that once you download the charts you own them. So just as before this make sure you have all the charts for the area you are expecting to cover in your travels. Except now it is actually cheaper as you don’t need to purchase numerious cards (and then loose them) along the way. Two purchases will get you more or less the entierty of the east coast to the Mississippi river and from the Candian Boarder to down through the Bahamas.
@@navtronicsmarinegroup thank you for your reply. In a lot of these islands it can be hard to download data files and time consuming, I think my speed was around 2 megabits. I am in Grenada right now and will buy the charts now as I do like Navionics. Also I went to do an update of the base maps which are really poor and you wanted money for that and I have two chart plotters.

can you use Navionics with a tablet only?
The 1243/943/743 also can run Navionics. Not just 8600s
So after the subscription expires does the chart disappear or does it just not get updated?
So if you do not renew, you will still have the charts you have onboard, you own those. However you will no longer get the freshest data and updates

How much memory is needed for chart download? Will a smartphone be able to handle it if you have storage, or do you need a tablet?

You are correct, for some people they don't need all of these things, but for many people they like to have as much data as possible.
This is a stupid system, just to get more money out of us and it does not need to be so hard and impossible to download out at sea.

I think the Navionics also can run with 1243/943/743 models. Not just 8600s
Correct this will on the 8600 series as well as the x43 series units
