TO ALL WOULD-BE HANDWALKERS: I handwalked for exercise for about 35 years, until I got too old (I know, kind of a drag, but hey, at least I'm still here!). I wore leather gloves and i advise you to as well, for protection against glass, nails, bees, etc. Also carefully walk the course you propose to handwalk, checking for holes and objects. You can mess up a wrist by falling in a hole. I usually walked 80 to 100 steps at a time. I also trained myself to handwalk down very steep hills, which was a ton of fun. (Going up a hill is another matter entirely, as you'll discover.) The best way to learn how to handwalk, once you've got the basic balancing act down by practicing against walls and doors, is to understand that it is a process or controlled falling. Your body wants to fall over backwards (onto your butt); you oppose this by taking forward steps with your hands. So the falling action and the walking action are mutually balanced; the falling actually helps propel you. I often used empty fields or more remote spaces. I wanted to get away from people because they always clapped and laughed and shouted when I handwalked, which got a bit annoying. When I started handwalking my initial goal was to go just 5 yards (on a football field); you build up distance slowly. I began handwalking in my late teens and thought this activity would build enormous arms, but it didn't. It did strengthen and define my arms and shoulders, and made my wrists incredibly strong. Over the 35 years, I hardly ever saw anyone else doing this activity. Good luck!
@@kronnitygames2793 Literally- I did an elbowstand one time but I didnt have the core strength for it so I fell flat on my back, and now I'm scared to do a front walkover💀
I remember learning this on my own and now I'm an expert at it and the moment I realized I was walking om my hands was an amazing accomplishment for me
the last time I did hand standing and walking was when I was 7yo. Surprisingly now at the age of 24 and not in the best shape I was able to hand walk 5 meters after doing these exercises :D Pretty cool !
thank you for making this video it made me feel so better I've always wanted to learn how to do this and I was watching it when I was sad and wanting to learn something new so I seemed cooler and it made me laugh.
Your 5 minute series is dope. Can you teach human flag pole or one handed chin up in five minutes? I believe I have the strength, just don't know the technique.
Just a question, I can do a back limber and back walkover (on the back handspring video) but for some reason I can’t get enough momentum and I can’t do a macaco. Any suggestions?
No matter what I do I can't stay up in a handstand... I need help :( I don't have a problem with falling forwards just backwards, and I keep my body as straight as I can, and when I press hard with the back of my palms it doesn't help me from going forward either.
Matthew Schubey try to rotate your body as much as you can when you jump up, you think your body is straight but it is probably not, i had that problem too. With practice you will get the feeling and try to train handstand daily. I hope this will help, if not comment here and tell me :)
Matthew Schubey You dont need to push on the back of your palms, you meed to push on your finger tips and make sure that theres a little air space between your fingertips and back of your palms, you will get the balance eventually with training daily, just keep going
Try to grab the ground with ONLY your thumb and pinkie, that way you activate the cushions (thenar and hypothenar area of the hand) that protect the wrist from impact.
@@caroline-hm8jk its hard to keep your balance with you elbows not bent when you first start. all he can do is wait and walk on his hands everyday. you need to develoop core and back strength to walk with your arms straight.
I doing this because brother said he would give me $50 (NZD) to walk on my hands for 20 seconds and I can do a handstand and i can walk on my hands for 3 seconds or less!!! I have 3 months wish me luck!

Matthew Schubey and by rotating body i meant to rotate it with your shoulders
Matthew Schubey Develop shoulder strength, you are too weak to hold a handstand
I can hold a handstand up against a wall for like 2 minutes, is that enough strength?
Matthew Schubey You dont need to push on the back of your palms, you meed to push on your finger tips and make sure that theres a little air space between your fingertips and back of your palms, you will get the balance eventually with training daily, just keep going
Ill finally become as good as Guy Sensei
