- You may be faced with the decision to move back in with your parents. Maybe you lost your job or graduated from college and don't have solid work plans yet. Either way - I have a few tips for you on how to manage this season of life and my experience with moving back in with my parents.

I’m 32 and moved back with my parents again. People might think is weird but I’m determinate to be debt free and get my own place 💪🏻
Love it. Big sacrifices for BIG gains later down the road.

You’re an inspiration. I moved back with my parents two years ago so I could go back to school and eventually start paying debt. I thought it would be for a few months and here I am two years later lol I finally done with school this December and will be moving out in Feb for a job I have lined up. But What I also want to mention is how blessed we are to spend time with our parents again. They’re getting older and I feel blessed to be able to reconnect with them again at this age.
That's great to hear! And what a positive for you to get school done and have the help from your parents.
I find it so much more acceptable these days BECAUSE of financial advantages 💪🏻 As long as it has a "deadline" everything is good. Of course, it's better if you get along with your parents 😉

I moved back with my parents November 2009 to save money. It was a blessing because I was laid off from work April 2011. At that point I had saved a bunch of money, so I in a great financial position.
In fact, I didn’t move out of my parents house until May 2015, at 31.
We are a Hispanic family, so living with your parents in your 30s/until marriage is totally normal. My twin sisters, who are 28, have never moved out from my parents house. None of us went away for college either. We are a super close family, and we prefer to spend our weekends and most vacations together.
With all that said, when I moved back in with them after 3 years of not living under their roof it was a bit of an adjustment. But nothing unbearable.

I've done it TWICE girl! Once after college (similar to your story, waited for a roommate) and then AGAIN during a season of life when I was married and we moved back in with HIS folks for 9-10 months. That was years ago, but I'd do it again if needed!
This is probably going to resonate with so many millennials this year! I did it for a brief month while I was finding the right apartment and honestly it wasn't bad at all!
I think so, too! In the moment it felt like I was going backwards but it really helped me out financially at the time.
I am 29 years old with a 1 year old daughter and I still live at home with my family. I am Mexican American and it's normal for many of us to live at home until we get married. I know many people who moved out after 30. Plus I live in Los Angeles county and rent is expensive here! I'm waiting until my daughter turns 2 to look for a job that requires a degree and leave my part time job
I just graduated in May and have been living at home since about April when COVID got really bad. It honestly has been a huge blessing because my parents aren't charging me for rent, so I can put everything I would have spent on rent towards my student loans! Only problem is my commute is an hour both ways lol

I loved your opening, I know you are being serious but it made me laugh only because I can relate. That face you made was a whole mood, very funny. Look, you gotta do what ya gotta do. Getting out of debt is the first step to building wealth! Just don't let it become a crutch to independence, don't get too comfortable at mom / dad's house.
37 after a breakup of 8 years living together had to move back home . It’s a bitch to find a place at the moment.

Currently living with my mom after losing my job 3 years ago. I thought it would be temporary but my current job doesn’t pay much and I have struggled to get on my feet. I really wish that I would have just struggled on my own and not have moved in with my mom. It was the worst decision mentally and financially for me to move in with her.
I'm so sorry to hear that and I hope that your job situation makes a positive turn so you can do everything you can to create the lifestyle that you want.
Both my parents moved after I started college. My dad to Florida to an apartment and my mom bought a sprinter van and converted it. So moving back in with them just wasn't an option. Looking back, I envy people who have that option after they graduate from college. Financially, it would have been a blessing.
I moved back in for the year after college in 2009-ish. Had no job, applied to over 50 jobs online and finally got hired through a family friend. It was huge to have that to fall back on.
Unfortunately, I am with my parents again. Hard but not really any other options. Too expensive to rent in the area and not really practical to live in my preferred area. My preferred area is in another province and one of the COVID hot spots in Canada (as well as that province too). I am planning on this second time to be as short as I need to. It is easy to be judged in the wrong way and COVID is already very limiting (do not need parental restrictions as well).
Do you mean judged because you live with your parents?
This isn’t really an option where I live because I was working 3 jobs at one time and rent was 3,000 dollars a month not $350. I ended up moving out for awhile than moving back in because of how much it was eating up just to live on my own in a small rental.

I luckily never had to move back into my parents house. I lived with my boyfriend when I graduated uni, so we were two to split the bills. However, we do have quite good unemployed benefits / incurance here in Denmark, so I was actually finacially better of being unemployed, than a student.

I am in grad school getting my doctorate and it is really financially stressful time because I cant work much. It is difficult, but I know it will be worth it when I graduate!!🎉😄 Ughhhh... like 2.5 more years to go 😬

I'm 30 and I am thinkng of doing this, it's very hard with controlling your spending I find even with living in NYC.
My wife and I are having a baby and planning on moving back home with my parents soon. We want to be in our hometown, and have student loans. So we’re gonna temporarily move back to get situated.
I literally just recorded an updated video on this topic! Are you planning on waiting to move out until after the student loans are paid off?
The plan is to stay there till the loans are paid. We should have them paid ideally in a year if we are super disciplined.
We plan to move in with my mom two months after the baby is born.
@justine what do you think about this principle when you’re older. I have $39k left on my student loan and it’ll take me 2 years to pay that and save my emergency fund. If I move back in with my parents I could probably do majority of that in a year but I am in my 30s!

I and others my age moved outta home in the 70s with no intention of moving back in. And dont fall for the crap about how young adults had it easier back then..we didn't.
In fact you were looked at as a failure by friends and family if it ever came up in conversation .
We roughed it , living in vans, squats, the back industrial warehouses...anywhere but back in with mom and dad..
Now way..
They don't want you there, You dont want to be there and others in your life look down on you socially for even thinking about it.
It simply wasn't an option and shows immaturity and an ability to many finances.
It appears young adults are not maturing as fast as we did in the past...and find this will set back in later life.
i'd choose living on the streets than living with my parents
