Jacques, the info you share is what I need as a new gardener. Yours is the gardening channel I go to first with any questions. Congrats on the growth of your viewership!
This year I finally started my garden from seed and thanks to the amazing stuff I've learned from your channel I started Nasturtium, Poppies, Forget Me Nots, Echinacea, Zinnia, Broccoli, Beets, Spinach, Onions, Marigolds, hot yellow peppers, and thyme all from seed and they are thriving. Thanks so much for all of the inspiration and smiles!
Aw man I am so excited to hear all your knowledge and stories. Your character is so true and genuine it's really refreshing to see. It's incredible and very deserved how azing your channel is.
Congratulations on getting your content out where it belongs! I imagine many people have gotten the gardening bug thanks to your information and pleasant vibe. I've been a container gardener forever and only got a proper growing space in the middle of last summer. This season I have done a ton of work to set me up for years of future gardening success. Water barrel, hot composter, raised beds, fertilizer tea, and even my very first fruit tree (plum), and berry bush (blackberries). I can finally grow things for beauty and not only for usefulness. Thank you for your excellent content.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I love that you are authentic instead of sounding like you are trying to sell something. I look forward to each of your videos. Keep on growing!
6:29 try giving your echinacea the cold treatment(like a week or two), and then sowing them in milk jugs as one would winter sown plants, but keep them well watered and in the shade. They should pop up!!! I had great success after years of trial and error. It had worked for three years now. 👍👍 Congrats, about to hit two hundred thousand in no time at all!
Just realized i hadn't been subscribed. Subbed and then looked at the number- you're already up to 185k the day after uploading your celebrating 100k video! Hell yeah, congrats :)
If you tend to overwater, picture the roots in the soil. When you water the soil fills with water pushing out the oxygen. As the soil dries down much need oxygen fills the space again and the plant flourishes. Visualization really helps.
@@jacquesinthegarden anytime brother!! You and Kevin have inspired me to share my garden and experiences. Now just to up my production or lack there of.. lol

Congrats Jacques from Australia! I love following your advice although it's tricky sometimes being in Melbourne. Cold & dark right now for the winter, but you've made me want to start seeds 😂
Congratulations! Your channel is one of my favorites. I’ll have to try the scarification next year with my luffa. I started 12 seeds and got a single sprout.
Congrats on the 100k! I love watching your videos. I learn so much and have been showing my mom some tips too as she is the one with a garden. For now I help her with her garden but I can't wait until I have one of my own. I love hearing your different tips and tricks as well how you design your garden. Makes my brain spin with ideas.
Jacques, I am so happy you decided to start a TH-cam channel. I can’t stress enough how your videos are very informative and I also learn something along the way. Thank you so much 😊
For the person who hurt their back: ELEVATED RAISED BEDS! That's what I'm using. They're not as deep, so you have to consider that, but if you have herniated discs or anything along those lines, you can still grow things. Mine are about 12". There are kits available online since it's super hard to use tools when you can barely move 😅
Congrats, Jacques! You'll be doing your next ??? vid sooner than later with 182k subscribers now! This one was particularly helpful. Last year I had pretty good results in my 9b area starting seeds outdoors (I haven't been able to figure out a way to do it in my house earlier indoors). This year, however, has been dismal.Much cooler temps coupled with too many gray days. Lots of non-germination including those dang cornflowers. Lots of stunts as well. Will take your advice & repot my stunts. I feel so far behind, but trying to make lemonade out of lemons, at least I have a long growing season!. Appreciate all your videos........many thanks!
I like your poppies! We have a strain of pink peony poppies that keeps reseeding. They started from a single small, sad flower that I didn't even notice until I saw the little seed pod. The next year there was another larger flower. Then there were several good sized flowers. They keep getting bigger and more vigorous every year. This year there's a whole patch of them in a planter. Their flower buds just popped out within the last few days, so they'll be blooming pretty soon.
I just gotta say, the big flowering bush behind you looks like a salvia that grows around here about 24" tall. In turn, to me, you look about a foot tall. You are the first Garden Gnome that has ever talked back to me.
Sunflowers (my favourite) ~ I've had success soaking them for 12 to 24 hours. If not direct sowing, planting seed in a tall 2.5x2.5x10-15cm (1"x 1"x 4-6") seedling pots. I originally got mine from a re-gen native habitat group; tall and skinny with holding frame, also great for seedlings with vigorous tape roots
Wow, Jacques you have an amazing teaching spirit. I look forward to you videos and have learned so much. I prefer to not only see how to do something but WHY. I appreciate that you keep it simple and straight forward. Thank you. Jeff

They should do fine wither way with the overall goal of keeping them close together. What I mean by that is that you don't want to plant in a straight line as that will lead to bad pollination. If you plant them in a block the pollination chances are higher leading to full corn cobs.
Thank you so very much for all the detail in this video!!! It answered so many issues I have had over the last couple of years. I am fairly successful with seed starting but this video will absolutely up my game!!! Thank you again!
Truly my first full growing season, I've started just onions and garlic outside, but I got onion seedlings inside an some herbs, but I will go all out and set up growing spaces in the GH for next year. Congrats on the channel bro! I try to grow everything from seed and have trouble germinating seeds that recommend sowing in ground. I’d like a video on why some seeds want/need to be sown in ground vs. starting in cells. Thanks for all the info you provide us!
Coneflowers/echinacea you can direct sow in the fall or winter where you want them. I have them growing, and that is how they do best for me. They are perennials and need the cold.
I have a terrible time getting cones to germinate too or they die soon after appearing. With peppers I sprout them in moist toilet paper so I can watch for germination. My poppies actually have done great this season and have thrived through transplant. I've had my fair share with germination struggles this year though, stevia and tarragon as well as some nasturtium varieties. It's been a strange germination season for me quite a few failures but I kept planting until I got at least some life.
Congratulations 🎉 and a huge thanks for your entertaining and informative content .. and my seed addiction continues 🪴 😂 Thank you 🙏🏻 from Perth, Western Australia 🇦🇺
Congrats! I’m a newbie that found you through the Epic Gardening channel. This was a great Q&A. Can anyone tell me what the big lavender looking thing in the background is? I know he said it but i can’t figure out how to spell it and get good search results.
I germinated some mouse dropping peppers & Thai peppers by soaking it in water & a pepper towel/zip loc bag, then transplanting sprouted seeds into grow cells. In home temp sits around 65-72, and it took 7 days! Hope that helps- no fancy hear mats here.
Very informative 😅 my plants seem to get both extremes, they either get far too much water, or they get left til they are bone dry whoops. On the subject of purpling tomatoes, I remember once being told its temperature related, so if they get a bit chilly (planted too early) they can purple.
I had a fungus gnat problem for the first time this spring too. And then I decimated them by happy accident! I had bought some mushroom spawn and I was intending to grow them outside but winter dragged on too long and I ended up growing them straight out of their plastic bag. I discovered that the fungus gnats were naturally attracted to the spawn like moths to a light (duh). After getting a couple of good flushes from the mushrooms, I felt like I got my money’s worth. The fungus gnats were driving me so crazy that I gave in and handed them the remaining spawn. I left the bag open for them, turned a blind eye on them for a few days (that was the hardest part) and then quickly shoved the bag into a large gallon-sized ziplock bag, zipped it up really tight and then tossed it in the trash and that was the end of it! If you have a serious fungus gnat problem that’s gotten out of hand, I highly recommend a mushroom trap crop! The cheapest grow kit you can find is probably sufficient.
Agree on it being worth growing from seed - there were certain asparagus varieties that I could only get seeds for, not crowns. Yeah, I was playing the long game with those, but it was totally worth it 😁

Hello. Another great video from the Hermit. BTW I’ve always had low germ rates with echinacea as well. I think it’s just how it goes. Perhaps it’s one that does better after the birds eat it
I have very good results hardening off my seedlings on the east side of my house. Sun for a few hours in the early part of the day then shade for the rest of the hot part of the day. I don’t have to move the seedlings around…no need to babysit. Works like a charm.

Loved this video! Thank you for all the info and for your great attitude, it's very refreshing these days! 😁So I gotta ask, what is that amazingly beautiful yet HUGE plant with the tall/long purple flowers behind you? Kinda looks to me like a Lupine gone WILD! Lol🤣 Much love from NW Oregon 🌻🙏😁
It is a Pride Of Madeira!
Hello. Another great video from the Hermit. BTW I’ve always had low germ rates with echinacea as well. I think it’s just how it goes. Perhaps it’s one that does better after the birds eat it
Seems like a common struggle !
LOL! I grew a couple of Litchi tomatoes last summer. I called it the Death Tomato.
I have very good results hardening off my seedlings on the east side of my house. Sun for a few hours in the early part of the day then shade for the rest of the hot part of the day. I don’t have to move the seedlings around…no need to babysit. Works like a charm.
That's good to hear! I always hated the process and decided early on to do anything to avoid it haha
Yay! We’ll deserved! So happy for you. 😀
Can’t wait for 200K🎉
Hey Jacques can you make a seed germinating guide?
I watched you on epic first. On that channel it said you’d only been growing since, (and correct me if I’m wrong) the pandemic. How are you so knowledgeable and such a good teacher?
This was excellent Jacques!
Thanks 🙏 love the gardening videos keep it up 👍
I grew that Litchi Tomato a few years ago and the thing grew like crazy and drew blood on more than one occasion. I kept cutting its top growing area but it kept growing. I still have seeds and do not know what to do with them but I can't throw them away!! Gardener problems....
Haha give them away but include a warning ☠️
He's gonna have to start planning a 200K video soon enough
