One thing with John Saul is he is pg-13 horror. Right when he has a chance to take it up a notch, he dials it down. Suffer the Children was good then the next 3-4 books after it, did the same type of story based on the Suffer the Children’s success. Then after that run, he wrote different stuff which was less horror and more mystery/thrillers.
The book you have, " Friend " , is definitely an original novel, I do remember there was a movie in the late 80's early 90's about BB coming back from the dead. Some of the content was a little different from the book, but mostly entertaining. If the book has the " Basketball " scene, that is a totally epic scene. And I wanna say that BB was played by Kristy Swanson I believe. And you most have the luck, I'm on marketplace constantly trying to look for vintage or previous horror novels. No such luck. But, It it doesn't stop me from trying.
I've genuinely never heard of Friend before, but I seriously can't wait to get to it. I'll have to check out the movie, as well! Marketplace is usually way more miss than hit, for me. I think there's been a total of four times where I've really scored on Marketplace. This just happened to be a major coincidence, finding two lots so close together. But, I also live in a state that's very much still drenched in Americana history, so there's miles of antique shops and thrift stores around me to browse.
i only read 1 john saul book and it was black creek crossing and it was a decent story. the way he writes the atmosphere is really good i will say. the effigies cover is a cool cover concept but yeah she looking like squidward dead center lol the little girl who lives down the lane i heard about recently in another video and it sounded really disturbing so i wonder what you will think about it if you do end up reading it. Boys Life is my most anticipated book to read in 2024 as i never read his stuff yet but im sure id enjoy his work a lot
I've heard a lot mixed things on Saul's work. I'll definitely get to Suffer The Children just to see how his style is. I'll definitely get to The Little Girl Who Lived Down the Lane. I like old school disturbing over what disturbing means now, and this is highly praised in the creep factor, so I'm psyched to get to it. McCammon is my favorite writer, and I'm both incredibly excited and envious that you get to experience his work for the first time. Boy's Life is his magnum opus, in my opinion, and is one of the best books ever penned to paper. Thanks so much for watching!
@@littlelibraryofhorrors yeah i cant wait to get to McCammon's books and i will make sure to read Boys Life early in the year. probably once i finish up a couple manga vols it will be next in the TBR

Good to know! I do plan on reading Suffer the Children at some point this year, but I'm not sure how much further I'll go after that.
Wow what a great haul! Unbelievable too after your last one. You have me checking my Facebook marketplace lol
It's not as reliable as online shopping, but that's half the fun! Hope you find something awesome, GG!

@@littlelibraryofhorrors the movie is called Deadly Friend, mother Fratelli from the Goonies is in it.
@@TheJericho1123 I'll have to check it out! I'm reading Friend right now, actually, and I'm LOVING it so far.
Friend sounds like a tech version of King's Pet Sematary.
Very true! Or a more modern telling of Frankenstein.
