I'm glad I found this vid/channel, this is a side of literature that I have not encountered. I was not familiar with a single book here and I really appreciate the commentary on each book. I especially found it interesting what you had to say about the last book in terms of having read it a bit later in your life than you had found it, and how the timing of life affected the experience of reading it. Thanks for the vid.

I recently picked up They Came Like Swallows so I'm happy to see it on your list. I love watching these best of the year vids to get more books on my radar. I'll be back for next year's list.

Happy to provide a push! Kawabata has always been worth it in my experience - he's one of the best

Here I am sitting in my Osaka apartment, eating a mikan, watching a random recommended video about books (as I do) when you suddenly mention you too are living in Japan. What a coinkydink. Subscribed.

Funny, I started reading The Savage Detectives several years ago and stopped halfway because I got busy with work so I never returned to it. Later on, having picked up other books to read I lost interest, though I remember what I read quite clearly. I guess I should finish it!

I feel that. Bolaño definitely has a thing about Octavio Paz - I'm itching to get to his stuff soon.

It would've been nice if you actually just quickly stated the genre and what the book is more or less about before giving us your opinion on them. You cannot expect us to know every single one of them and without giving us that prior information your commentary on them are just empty words.
