Thanks for watching guys, if you'd like to see more hi-res photos of Prince's rifle and read a detailed article about it, you can check that out here: armourersbench.com/2019/01/12/princes-breechloading-rifle/ - Matt
@wood1155 Yeah I'd definitely agree, it definitely doesn't have the robust military look, its a very elegant looking gun (to my eye at least). I suspect they felt that the large moving mass of the barrel and the weakness of the stock might be an issue. Shame they didn't continue the trials. Thanks for watching! - Matt
Seems a remarkably simple design to me, but I guess if you were a military trials officer in the mid 1800s it would have seemed flimsy and complex. Fascinating!
Not when you compare it to a muzzle loading rifle musket. Probably 7 rounds a minute, having to cap the lock definitely adds to the load time though. Have videos on some designs which tried to fix this coming up. Thanks for watching! - Matt

I had not realized that rifle locking lugs originated from 1853! The original bolt action rifle.....
They go back even further but its interesting to see opposed lugs like these. Thanks for watching! - Matt

long time to load

I didn't think this was going to be all that mechanically interesting, until you slid that barrel forward to expose those opposed lugs!
Right?! Really interesting little rifle. Thanks for watching. - Matt
Quite an interesting circle.
Greetings from Russia! Great video!
