So my friends lives in Montreal and accidentally exited his house on police brutality day. He literally exited his appartement building, heard angry shouting, looked right, saw a big mob, looked left, saw the riot cops forming a shield wall like Spartans, and slowly advancing. He went back inside and called his boss saying he won't make it today.
"What do you mean you can't make it into work today?" "Sorry boss, its Police Brutality Day!" "Oh that makes sense, go home, lock your doors, watch Naruto."
Sam Lucas It was more like "Hey boss. I can't make it today because there's literally a wall of cops outside my door" "Oh yeah it's one of those dumb Walks against Public Brutality. You think there's a chance it will clear up soon" "Well, I think the cops are corralling people away, so I might just be late. No wait, someone threw a brick and now they're chucking tear gas at people"
to be fair, a faction-based riot simulator where the goal is to gather more valuable materials than your opponents like some demented capture the flag game with 3 or more teams per match sounds pretty fun.
Master Markus the animals aren't as dangerous because they're more spread out and most of the year it's too cold for anything to care about picking a fight.

Funny thing is, the game they are describing sounds a _lot_ like State of Emergency, an extremely early PS2 game by Rockstar. It was sort of this mad, chaotic riot simulator where the player did missions for a resistance group and beat up corporate-fascist police/government agents. To think, that wouldn't have been considered topical back in the early aughts. Also one of the characters (and the one that Rockstar were most proud of, as they put him on the freakin' cover) is pretty cringe-worthy to look at.
Minorities protest the shooting of innocent children: "Riot in the streets" White Dipshits block medical staff from their patients and supplies: "Civil Protest" This country is so fucked up.
My folks and I were going on a Paris-London trip during the entire Yellow vest protests. The thing that I found oddest about that entire trip is the French Parisian riot cops were far nicer than the British basic traffic cops and the British guards for tourist's sites. The decked out riot cop was far calmer in the face of French rioters (which are no slouches as far as rioters go) were nicer than the cops that police online speech. It made my head spin.
Meanwhile in the US, our cops will shoot you and every innocent civilian in the vicinity dead if they feel threatened in any way. Also they feel threatened by non-white people.
Man, Liam seems way more annoyed about people having anything bad to say about the Police than the people who destroy shit after sports games for literally no reason.
All I'm doing is thinking this game would've been The DIvision but instead of vaguely pseudo-fascist in a very uncomfortable way, it's openly socialist/anarchic so you play the Looter faction or whatever.
Don't be kind of difficult as socialism and R&R qism doesn't really mesh very well, because Anarchy is complete chaos no government, and socialism is all government.
"Your flimsy moral high ground looks much better on top of a burning cop car"
Just dying of laughter right now

What do you guys think is worse, Police Brutality Day or Omikron Day? Because either way, there is an assault.

Listening to this 3 years on "oh shit it's police brutality day" remains one of the most surreal comments I've laughed to
So it turns out Canada is just colder Australia.
Our animals aren't as dangerous. And our spiders are small.
Master Markus the animals aren't as dangerous because they're more spread out and most of the year it's too cold for anything to care about picking a fight.
You got bears!
We apparently have those fucked up lone-star ticks now
I love it when people call it "Sleepy Dogs".
Listening to this during the ongoing riots in American cities. Oof.
Really hits different this year, doesn't it?
Don’t worry, other countries joined in too
Dude
I MADE IT BABY! Right in the middle of this shit in Minneapolis baby.
Moving to uhhh, saint paul now.
only in Canada would one of the most impulsive spontaneous actions have a fucking pre determined date attached to it.
Johnny Nemo not only a predetermined date, an ANNUAL predetermined date.
Johnny Nemo It's how they maintain order.
Was Pat aware of the Irish meaning of "The Troubles" at this point?
The premise of Smash + Grab is basically just the non-set-piece parts of The Warriors. "Clean this shithole out!"
Goddamn Liam is so savage in this bit.

TPoseCulture they've mentioned it before in one of their lp's
TPoseCulture I saw that shit in the store, always thought "NOPE, this ain't gonna be a good one."
TPoseCulture God, I remembers that game. It was so ass. I loved it.
......Sometimes I can't really tell if Matt is in these podcasts anymore. Lol
"What day is police brutality day?"
'Every day.'
oh no
Yeah, Pat, no one has eeever rioted over soccer.
To be fair, that's because they don't call it soccer in the lands in which they riot over it.
A Little Bit Older true. we riot over hockey here in the north.
Dr. Killer Gorilla Mountain They do it over hockey. You're thinking of Nicaragua.
Huh, Liam seems to have far less of a problem with hockey riots then he does with protests.
You mean the extremely white guy whose family had tonnes of rural land and firearms maybe had some QUESTIONABLE unconscious biases?
Ooooooooh, this aged like milk left in the hot sun huh?
Did I get this right, Canada has a Police Brytality Day that is basically Purge?
Loginius canada has a lot of days that are basically mini purges, but as far as i'm aware, only montreal ignites on that particular day.
Loginius ive actually never seen or heard of anything in canada like this, I guess montreal is just fuckin nuts.
The french are built different
This is fun to revisit in current day. I miss Liam, he had the best takes here
I guess it actually was good that they don't normally talk about politics...

WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY DESCRIBING?! I'm American. ...Is...is this real?!
Look up the battle of berkeley 2017, you'll be pleasantly surprsed
